This man and his bandmates, his band of brothers and sisters that has grown from the core of his nearly lifelong friends, the millions of fans who he genuinely calls friends...E Street is nothing but heart. And soul. I just was looking at a thread which started with "Bruce is the greatest front man ever." There was "nah, Mick Jagger." Hey, that's a good point of contention, but they're not in the same group. Everytime I see this argument, it lands on Freddie and Springsteen. Freddie was a comet. Best Male singer ever to take a rock n roll stage IMO. And he commanded huge diehard audiences like few if any could. Simply put, amazing and on some level the best. But Bruce takes us with him. WE are E Street. He raises his champions to a higher place. If you ever have been there, it's surreal. It just happens to you. Rejuvenates your heart. Revived my soul. It is, literally., a revival. And I don't really know anyone else who does it like that. GOAT

That sigh before he starts… and the way he almost moves to speak before the song seems to take over and starts and he’s interrupted. Such a powerful song.

24 years ago, I heard this song for the first time while in a cab from JFK airport to NYC. I had just immigrated to America from Senegal 🇸🇳 and didn’t speak a word of English. The song played on the radio as we crossed a bridge with Manhattan’s huge skyscrapers in front of us. It was a bright summer day; blue skies, huge white clouds, and tons of hope in front of me. In broken English I asked the driver (himself an immigrant from Pakistan or Bangladesh I think) if he knew the song’s name and he answered his. an super heavy accent: “I dunno young man…I think it’s about Indonesia…field of Bali” 😅 For 3 years the song stayed in my head…I would hum it constantly without knowing the lyrics or the singer. One night in college in Connecticut, this girl I had been seeing for a few weeks invited me to her dorm to hang out…she had a massive CD collection and we started talking about favorite music and stuff.…I told her about my love for rap, r&b, Elton John, Third Eye Blind, Phil collins and stuff etc…BUT that my favorite song was something I had only heard ONCE but didn’t know the lyrics or the singer…that it went something like “alone in the fields of Bali…” As soon as I began humming it, she was like “wait.,.Sting? fields of Gold?”. I was like “Maybe….I haven’t got a clue…”. She jumped on her computer and opened Napster and typed it up….To this day I can still remember the indescribable joy and sheer excitement I felt when the tune started playing. It felt soooo freaking good to finally know….After a wonderful night with her, I spent days listening to it non stop. We ended up dating for 4 years before getting married to this very song! Saw Bruce as he “open up” the Linc (Lincoln Financial Field in PHILLY) - The Rising Tour! When he played this you were in AWE, FEELING every word, note to your bones. I recall it like yesterday &!I’ve been to over 15 of his shows in 5 states from NY to FLA & a SUPER FAN since 1976- this song, this album/cd is by far my #1!!! He is truly a remarkable, talented story teller. A barer of truth, honesty, compassion, empathy & reality! He transcends generations. My favorite best artist!!
The congregation’s gone … but the artist can still hear the organ’s song. I love the gospel-like finale, so brilliantly channeled by Springsteen and the E Street band, in this rendition. So grateful Springsteen is still with us -- and that he hasn't stopped creating after all these years. Once in a lifetime talent.
Goosebumps.... I have long thought Bruce had a little preacher in him. Songs like "City of Hope and Dreams", "Working on a Dream" and others lend themselves to revival/gospel/uplifting live performances. This is another example...
i think he's crying as he sits on the piano even before he starts singing... very touching, beautiful song i could listen to this all night. thank you my awesome Boss for your music.. Godbless you.
Thanks for the love and support . I decided to take out time today out of my busy schedule to get close to my fans and know their thoughts towards my career and I came across you through my official RUclips CHANNEL insight..
I saw him in Paris in 2003. This song was the best moment. Alone with the piano and his voice in front of 80.000 people, I thought "He's really great". It's was like time was stopping. Unforgettable.
Quelle chance ! À 20 ans, j'ai déjà eu la chance de voir Bob Dylan, Joan Baez et Sting, mais jamais Springsteen. Voici définitivement l'un de mes rêves.
@@MyDawn2011 It was our second time, even better than the first. How is it possible that he gets even better as the years pass by!! Your right what a fantastic night 👍👍
Being a "Joisey guy" I've always been a Bruce fan, though I wasn't a die hard when I was younger. Born in 1968, I listened to alot of radio in the late 70's and 80's and I knew all his famous hits, but that was pretty much it. In the 90's I was into grunge. Then came "life". Marriage, kids, new job, new house and I stopped listening to the radio. As I've grown older, kid's outta the house, I have more time and I received a free Sirius XM with a recent car purchase. I stumbled across Bruce's XM Channel and for the past year, it's all I've listened to in my free time. It's been a fantastic voyage going back and listening to all his albums and realizing there's soooo much great music and unbelievable songs I was completely unaware of. I didn't realize besides writing lyrics and the music, I had no idea he was this great of a musician. I had no idea he played piano. I'm blown away at how good he really is and I kick myself for not realizing this 25 year's ago. Guys wayyyy better then I was ever aware of.
If we are strong enough, to realize what is important of our collective beliefs, and what is our nonsense. Then we will rise together the only way it can be done, our reality demands a lot of us. If we fail in our common goal then we scatter in the winds picked apart by the obstacle and wolves of the day.
A few months ago my aunt who was a huge Springsteen fan died & I hadn't heard this since. It just brought up so much emotion so poignantly. At the beginning, I thought of the scene for the first responders on 9/11, just praying that they would see someone literally rise up & survive. Then I thought of people who, like my family, see their loved ones dying in the hospital bed & desperately hope that the person they love will recover. The "tears on the pillow" made me think of my poor uncle & how that void is for him. When "rise up" came on again, it seems like we- who are left behind- telling ourselves & each other to rise up, keep moving, & be strong for each other... & how much we're still hurting, because our city is still in ruins. So thankful for the connectedness & therapeutic nature of this song 🙏❤🇺🇸
These lucky people got a religious service with inspiration as well as beautiful music. I always associate this song with 911. It is also a song for each individual's personal struggle. Thank You, Bruce for sharing.
As a wildland firefighter traveling alone in 2001, post 911, I can't hear this 21 years later without weeping. I was traveling north into Washington as I passed through a small town on a Sunday with a flag at half mast, doors thrown open, obviously a small decrepit little cow town, on my way to one too many deployments, a life in ruins, a child custody just decided in my favor, that 4 year child sitting with a broken leg, begging for her father who couldn't come home as he headed another fire in the Cascades, already deployed continuously since June 11, not to be released until Oct. 21. This came over the airwaves in the Concert for New York City as I crossed the Columbia. It was devastating then. It is devastating now.
Now more than ever. Look at us we can do better. Dig deeper and then some more. Be bigger, greater and wiser. With these hands and hope we got this!!!!
Looking forward to seeing him again for a 3rd time in 13 months. During the Covid period listening to his music, was a relatively new springsteen listener. Now is all i listen too. Finding gems like this song ❤

Un momento molto lungo e intenso. Ciao, da Savona.
The final shot of the clip: look at Clarence on the left. Pure emotion
Best live performance I have ever watched. I became a fan straight away - went to see him yesterday in Barcelona for the first time ❤
Just magic......
Thanks forever Bruce....
Such a good tune.
Let the Boss sing us out of this year ....
Legendary, awesome and powerful Performance
Please rise up everyone and unite for the greater good. Bruce has our backs...and fronts. Feel the power.
Now more than ever. Look at us we can do better. Dig deeper and then some more. Be bigger, greater and wiser.
With these hands and hope we got this!!!!
At this time i wish the world would listen more ,what more could be said .........Lets rise up
Looking forward to seeing him again for a 3rd time in 13 months. During the Covid period listening to his music, was a relatively new springsteen listener. Now is all i listen too. Finding gems like this song ❤
