My experience with one I believe may have been more cheaply made with key rings at either end was this. Once I got past the shallow learning curve of how to use it without it getting stuck, I got into a nice rhythm and it was at about that time where the crimped attachment became detached from the wire rendering it almost useless. Lessons I learned. Don't depend on it. Treat it gingerly (if at all) or better yet. Just find a more suitable piece of wood elsewhere.
It's not working right because you're not using it properly. Besides in a survival situation this is more than adequate. You dont need perfectly square cuts.
No it's not. They issued us these in the Army albeit with less fancy handles. We would use a piece or good nylon strap and make better handles. I still have mine and its cut countless pieces of wood plastic and whatever I needed it to. I've even cut thin aluminum barstock with it just to see if it would. It wasn't the best for that but it did it.
Only thing is, dirt cheap products can be a buzz kill for people who may have been enthusiastic, then they think oh i cant be bothered this sucks... Whatever you do, dont buy dirt cheap bushcraft products, id sooner save up and buy quality, that will not fail - its not just that they might fail you if you need to "survive" , its the level of disappointment and frustration

Why do companies keep making these? I haven't seen any that are worth carrying.

That's a green wood saw. It's not supposed to work on dry wood.
