It's 100% funnier if they weren't. Buc's actually has stuff worth buying. The lil hole in the wall truck stops are filled with garbage that fiscally chaotic people like Beardsley and myself are compelled to buy through the dark magic emanating from the dirty tile floor and cigarette-stained walls
But Murph makes it a point to qualify the story by saying it was a regular gas station, as if to drive home the point that they weren't at a place you'd half expect to buy that stuff, like a buccees

This was me with embroidery thread at a Michaels once. "How the fuck did this come out to $80". At least it was self-checkout, but my friend had to watch me go through, take out 2/3rds of them, and rescan each one.... Humiliation. Stay away from the sparkly thread when you're high, they're like $5.
This is impressive for real because each regular DMC skein is like 80 cents.

At some level, these are happening way late at night, so it's probably just exhaustion, masked by makeup; if the guy didn't enjoy himself, he wouldn't still be keeping this up, I think
I think that may just be his resting face/he has a tendency to zone out sometimes! Like it’s clear every now and then he will just accidentally check out of a conversation for a bit and then come back soooo confused lmao. It may just be more obvious bc he’s tired or otherwise preoccupied thinking about something here.
I was wondering too, there aren‘t a lot of Fabian scenes either. Not trying to be invasive, of course, just he seems pretty quiet.
