I haven't raced R/C in several years, literally watched this entire video. This is gold for any Mugen owner. Even those that don't own Mugen cars should watch how methodically you build cars. Attention to detail is key and it's no wonder you have been so successful. Keep up the great work Adam, you're an asset to the community and an excellent brand ambassador.
so glad we still get new nitro kits I will stop buying new cars when all I can get is E words or the same ole kit over and over just to have a nitro Adam thank you for all you do helping folks and making kits better every year
I have broken 2 of the rear outer hingepins from over tightening. First time I thought it was already cracked or something. Second time, I learned my lesson😂
I run an x ray and a sticker over pillow the ball hexes is a good tip, i never thought of that. I do run x-ray graphite uprights and I use graphite dry lube and it helps but constantly maintaining up rights and pillow balls to keep it smooth. The xb8e looks fast and low cg characteristics are really good but if I buy another Nitro I'm going with Mugen. I have an mbx5 and it was a really good for what it is
Hello Drake. I just want to say I enjoy all of your content on RUclips even though I'm mainly an on-road guy. It would be awesome if Mugen would hire someone to put out content like yours for the on-road stuff.
Nice good to know, I learned a lot on your videos specially on set ups for racing it helps me out a lot to finish on the main thank you so much for all you do Adam!
Build has been incredible. My front diff is still a bit notchy feeling and has some gear noise, just going to run 1 shim on each side as recommended and hopefully it runs in and smooths out
Hi how you doing Adam my name is Henry I'm just getting in into Nitro and I'm washing your videos and I thank you for putting them out there for people like me to learn how to do Nitro thank you
Love watching a fellow detailed oriented person do his work. Great video. Only critique would be to not time lapse, keep the vid all real time. There may be noobs who might need to see what exactly is going on. But then again, why is a noob building this car. Anyway great job, bravo!
Awesome vid. Your dexterity has me envious lol. You make it look so easy. Car looks awesome too btw. Won't ever own one but definitely appreciate what goes into them. Maybe a truggy? Lol
Thanks Adam for the info on the build. I love the attention to detail and your meticulous way you build. I try to do the same on my build. Question ate you using the Makita TD022DZB Impact driver for your build in this video?
Hi Adam, thanks for the detailed video! Could you make a video about tuning with the front upper arms now that we have more options? And tuning with the rear hub plates. Also are the stock 3 dot rear hub plates the same geometry as the mbx8 plastic hubs? Or is 1 dot the same as the mbx8 hubs?
I'm rebuilding a Mugen nitro buggy and truggy and want to replace the a bc ll of the screws. What's my best option ? I have seen complete sets for sale but was not sure how complete and good they are. Any suggestions? Thanks
Love the video Adam. Great job, very informative. What model Makita is that you use? Is it an impact gun and not a screw gun? If there’s a clutch what do u set it to? Thanks much!!
hello adam and thank you for all his great videos. can you give me the reference of the Malika electric screwdriver that you use to mount your mugen, thank you very much
@DavidRC what you don’t do both? It’s funny it’s always the guys that make comments like these that struggle in electric. But something tells me that you do just fine and electric is easy to you… 😂
@@FattydonTube not an issue, the same exact collar style with grub screw will hold the variable size roll bar and also adapt the diameter to the bearing. Several other brands do this successfully already.
@@AdamDrake yes, but why? Is there an advantage to using a slot and then collars to hold the bar, or is going to bearings just too big of a change for the R and maybe we'd see it in the 9?
i don't understand why does A-arm stiffener need to be screwed on..instead of making a flat solid A-arms and forget that stiffener...it just something for the looks /make a flat solid A-arm and no more worries...
Look up section modulus, you can get the stiffness you want at a much lower weight. You can also tune the arm stiffness with optional stiffener plates.
If only future rc ,the Finnish importer/retailer had cars and parts to sell, I'd love vtr jump back to mugen, but such a bad import just scares all drivers away from this great car....
Bro I like your videos they are quite educational but I'm getting into the RCC scene now and when you do the time lapse you done lost me within the first four or five seconds and now you're doing the second time lapse and I don't know exactly what you're doing so I'm not learning nothing you need to be done with the time lapse so people can actually see what you're doing who's never built a rear diff before
Seems like a whole bunch extra parts and weight. Seeing a lot on this build that I don't see the point of. Looks over built and adding a lot of unnecessary weight. Was thinking of switching to a different brand so i came here to watch the build.

I’m going to have to buy this now. Genius marketing guys I’m in.
I can't wait to get one. Love tearing down and rebuilding my current Mugen. Such a good buggy.
Take it easy mang.

Awesome Video Adam. Very Detailed in Depth.
Thanks Adam 👍🏼
very helpful! thanks for taking your time adam & also mugen for the 8r

Great video.
Do you put any lube in the cvd joints ?

Been looking forward to this video.
👍🏻👍🏻
I think the optional diff shims you would want is part number: B0767 which are 8x10. The caption points to the part number for 6x8 (B0766)
Dr. Drake’s Master Class 🏎💨 🔥

Makes me kinda want an MBX8R now, just to try some pillow ball action... cheers
Thank you!
Nice video again. I would like to see rest of the setup, if diffs are 5-4-6........😊
Please feel free to email me and I can send a setup sheet.

The manual and your video shows dot on clutch is stock. But on setup sheet it has no dot selected.
Hey Adam. Awesome video as always! Quick question tough. What flywheel tool do you recommend for the new mugen V2 4 shoe clutch setup?
That flywheel is awsome. It looks like a must have. What kind of bells does it use. Can I use a Losi/Tekno bell or Kyosho/Ae or Ofna style.
Who makes that impact driver you use?
Amazing
Hey Adam, what electric screw driver is that? Just got my MBX8R can’t wait to put it together !!
Great video 👌
Thank you.
would you use 2.1 sway bars in the front and 2.4 on rear for the eco version as well?
Yes.
Hi Adam. Do you know where I can get a parts tray from, as I will be building an 8r at some point
Awesome vid! Any word on when an eco may come out?
@DavidRC what you don’t do both? It’s funny it’s always the guys that make comments like these that struggle in electric. But something tells me that you do just fine and electric is easy to you… 😂
What is the extra mounting point on the rear hub assy? the flat pad with the two holes. looks a lot like a mounting point for a steering link.
looks like I found the answer on the interwebs.. apparently this is a mount for Mud scrapers? never heard of them before.
Adam what's your diff set up for the mbx8r
Can these new diffs slide right in for the world's edition?
Whene mugen release eco version?
are you taking orders for rollers?
How much that one cost?
does the thread locker eat at the nylon in the lock nut
No.
Drake, is OK to use non-chlorinated brake cleaner to replace your... lets say.. Magnum Force RC cleaner? Or if anyone else wants to comment about it.
That should be fine, but try to avoid getting that on plastic.
Keep automotive brake cleaner away from Lexan especially. It will literally melt lexan. Even a fine mist will scar the surface.
Are you coming to LCRC in 2022?
I live 5 minutes from there
😉
Yes, the plan is to attend the Mugen Challenge at LCRC Raceway.
What do I do when my gear mesh is loud but set the same way you did in your old mesh video.
I would use a little Protek white grease on the gears.
@@AdamDrakeWould "Lith-Ease WHITE LITHIUM GREASE" work? See ya at the 2022 PNB! Thanks!
why mugen go back to inline uprights?
Hi Adam ? What does 6000 do for the rear diff …
Thicker fluid in the rear will slow down mid corner rotation and also increase drive on the exit of the turn.
B0766 is not the correct diff shim size as mentioned at 16:04
@@mektrix8887 B0767. Kyosho also makes the same kit.
Yes, I believe it's B0767.
B0767
Why not just put the roll bars on bearings so they're locked in and free-spinning always?
Because there are different size of roll bars.
@@FattydonTube not an issue, the same exact collar style with grub screw will hold the variable size roll bar and also adapt the diameter to the bearing. Several other brands do this successfully already.
That is one way to do it, but not the way we decided to do it for the MBX8R.
@@AdamDrake yes, but why? Is there an advantage to using a slot and then collars to hold the bar, or is going to bearings just too big of a change for the R and maybe we'd see it in the 9?

It's a great kit with a lot of nice tuning options.
Ifmar mbx9 😂😂😂
No, MBX8R
So basically from what i see it's a 800$ buggy that offers nothing more than a 489$ associated one.
