The cleaning putty is a great idea! It's easy when you know how! I've been building & racing model cars for years, but this just goes to show - always keep an open mind - you're never too old (or too clever) to learn something new. Cheers Adam. 🍻👍
Built my 1st kit, (was) an RTR guy and not knowing anything about diff shimming I made a chassis that was a locked up brick.😜we live, we learn, thanks for these! 👍
nice to see this topic come back from time to time, and funny, every time, you learn something new or have a new attention point. Thx!! Although I think i'm doing it the right way, from time to time, I have a leaky diff after rebuild, or even with a new build. Never from the o-rings, but always from the gasket. I'm super carefull with the bolting order, first just snug etc, It's not even that the bolts are loose or so, nothing special, and 9/10, a rebuild with the exact same parts and I'm trouble free until the next service. Any tips? I tried grease on the gasket vs not grease at all. No grease seems to give the most change of being leak free, but not always. And I have had it with Team Asso as wel as Hoboa, so not brand related.
So how do you manage this with the outdrives? on the front diffcub you write no. 2 on it, on the gear side 1. And when you put new ones in the front, do you remove the rear ones and put the ones that were in the front to the rear?
Yes, with the current production gears you can just remove the four small shims, but in the future we'll have a revision where you can run all the shims inside the diffs.
Hey Adam, I saw you replied to my previous comment about tires for my 5t and I was wondering how long the proline fugitive tires would stand up to bashing, I’m confused between the fugitives and the Duratrax six packs tires
Brother Adam, When you say you remove them with the same orientation, what exactly do you mean? Also, odd question but I have heard of people putting their gears in gasoline to clean them to “new.” Before reinstalling with new diff fluid. Any thoughts on this process?
You want to make sure the left outdrive stays on the left side and the right outdrive stays on the right side. I haven't cleaned the gears with gasoline myself.
Do either you or Ryan run performance upgrades in your buggy’s? Like different diff internals, crown and piñon gears? Or are your buggy’s pretty much standard
Hey Adam my associated rc8t 3.2 looks just like your mbx8 as far as parts will they interchange and did associated copy the mugen THANKS man and thanks for all your vids they have done alot to help me
How come you don’t clean the actual diff gears and plastic diff case in the ultrasonic cleaner , I was going to try it but was going to put diff parts in a small plastic container so the oils dosent mAke the ultrasonic cleaner very dirty ???!

So true! We'll be offering the cleaning putty soon through www.thedrakeracing.com
Thanks for the heads-up - I'll check it out! 👍
Finally I got the information and tips I need to understand how to service properly my diffs, thanks Adam and keep it up!
My pleasure!
Luv the cleaning putty, awesome 👌 diff building thank u for the tips and tricks Adam Drake !

As always Adam, great info! Very much appreciated!

Any time! Great seeing you at PNB.
I referenced some of the your older videos when I did the diff video on my Baja Rey.
Very cool! Thanks for watching.
Great video Adam. Really enjoy these tech vids.
Glad you like them!
Great video! Can’t wait to run in Spokane this weekend 👍
Thank you!

It could be the surface of the diff case isn't perfectly flat? Maybe try sanding it lightly on a flat surface before building the diff?
I like Lucas high pressure grease in my diffs. It’s the only grease I’ve found still stuck to the gears after hard bash sessions.
Very nice.
Great video thanks for talking the time to show us.
My pleasure!
I'm just glad that's how I do my diffs. already good to know
Very nice!
This is gold! Nicely done!
Thank you!
How did you feel about the Protek grease on the diff cups. I usually use this all around.
I use the white Protek grease on the ring and pinion, but the Mugen grease on the diff cups and outdrives.
Is that red lock tight on the inner cup shaft?

Hi. Do you have any shims behind internal gears??
Thank for the vid👍

It depends on the surface you're bashing on, but they should hold up well.
@@AdamDrake I’m bashing mainly on dirt, I run my 5t on dirt roads
Are the deferential housings metal or plastic?
Just wondering what powdered driver your using. Been trying to find a good one. Thanks

Do you clean internal gear with brake cleaner, if no, why?
I don't but I also do my diffs often. I guess if the oil was super dirt it would be fine to use brake cleaner or an ultrasonic cleaner.
Do you use internal AE diff gears?
No sir, I use the Mugen internal gears.
I don't comment but I gotta say big thanks for you help your exalent at explaining clearly thank you
Glad it helped
Where do you get your cleaning Putty?
Do either you or Ryan run performance upgrades in your buggy’s? Like different diff internals, crown and piñon gears? Or are your buggy’s pretty much standard
The buggies and trucks we run are pretty much stock other than some upgrades from Flash Point, Mugen Seiki, and JConcepts.
I'm confused about grease on/in the diff cup. I saw you put the Mugen grease on the outdrives but not the diff cup.
Yes, you should use the Mugen Premium grease on the outdrives and the cup/ring gear.
@@AdamDrake Thanks brother.

They do have a lot of things in common. :)
Cleaning putty is genius! Years of flinging stuff everywhere with a toothbrush seems so stupid now.
Yes sir.
Cleaning putty! amazing idea!
I think everyone should watch this post. I do this even to my bashers. Are you a fan of using tq electronic cleaners to strip the diff oil?
How come you don’t clean the actual diff gears and plastic diff case in the ultrasonic cleaner , I was going to try it but was going to put diff parts in a small plastic container so the oils dosent mAke the ultrasonic cleaner very dirty ???!
You can, but I just let them sit for a little bit and most of the fluid runs off the parts onto the paper towel.
If I’m bashing is it to much to through 60000 in center diff Adam?
That should be fine for bashing.
Why doesnt the manual specify to thread lock the screws?
It's just a tip I use.
What type of grease is that called (the one you used for the outdrives)
Mugen Seiki Premium Grease.
Different C & D blocks with 7 arms? Why?
was just about to ask the same question
Narrow pivot with mbx6 arms
Just testing a narrow pivot with longer MBX6 arms.
0:32 let's get to it
Just like sim racing garage 🙂😉😉🙂😆😄🤣😂
:)
