I know we had some AWACS support in Iraq during OIF. They can see things we would not expect them to be able to see sometimes, and this was definitely a blessing at times. Thankfully we also have ground based radar as well.
I remember being on San Antonio Texas & one flew over the house we were at while we were in the back yard & we could not hear it until it flew over the house & it was flying at a very low altitude. Amazing aircraft that produces little sound.

My old CFI in flight school was an old flight engineer on the 777 E3, he had lots of interesting stories. Apparently they're hell for the crew because they have no water reintroduced back into the air, due to the electronics so you have to constantly drink water, else you get big dehydration headaches.
The Cheshire Cat I’m sure your right but I thought that would cause air humidity to drop to below 10% and when this is the case static electricity builds up more quickly. They are probably trying to save weight because carrying water to re circulate into air for 10 hours will 100% effect airplane efficiency.

NATO needs to be overhauled. Reorientated towards the changing threat from the islamic states and the far east, not just Russia. Also financial commitments need to be binding and enforced. Mostly those financial commitments need to be increased.
It’s getting there, all those countries that doesn’t meet their 2% have all increased their spending and have provided a schedule for how they are going to meet the 2% But it’s also a very confusing about the 2% mark because countries are calculating how much they spend differently!
Baloney Sergeant. Rett. Meeting people is the greatest part of the mission my ass. Getting all that new exotic foreign white poontang is the really great part.
Maganda yan...we need an aircraft like that to see the bully neighbour surveying our islands...our islands..part of the Philippines..not the neighbour's island
These planes are easy targets nowday, they will have to be pure wing like the B-2 and have defensive capabilities, otherwise they will be the first thing to be targeted by adversaries
Apparently there is "Super Quiet" Russian Kilo Class Submarines submerged off the coast of Britain, shouldn't NATO be deploying Ships and Anti Submarine Aircraft to find them?

How precisely do satellites detect radar signatures and share them with other aircraft in real-time? I think the whole concept of the AWACS has gone over your head. Either that or you have no idea what a satellite is. Or both.
English Andy......infrared satellites can detect heavy bombers, and fighter jets staying high in space......Spy satellites can detect surface warships and SIGINT / ELINT satellites detect/collect all radar emissions over an area .........but AWACS can detect, track targets over long ranges, it provides targets information in azimuth, range and elevation....... satellite can track targets (by it's infrared signature) and the target information provided isn't accurate, will vary many miles in range, or azimuth/elevation with the real target.......but a network of low orbiting satellites could still share information in real time

I once saw three of these over our airspace, burton upon trent UK in about 2008. Not sure what for, but it was strange.

Lu-Ri Lei C-17s i reckon
@Lu-Ri Lei, Nope, you can see the refueling boom on the closer of the two, most likely a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker.

Imagine greece and Turkey both flying in this and them fighting onboard lol
what's wrong with them?
What’s the power supply for all of the electronics on board? Is it drawn from the jet engines? What an amazing machine.
They haven’t been re-engined? Weird.
Singapore and France are mothballing some KC135s which have the upgrade.
Just saying.
I believe NATO are replacing or at least augmenting their E-3 with the E-7 since the UK and Turkey are procuring it.
redj59 the avionics look brand new though
How about not skip over the comm section next time? No one would have comms on the mission without those folks.
I live near the airport where one of these is in use. Shakes my shelves every time it flies by.
I just saw one of these fly through (low) a small town in Maine. it was freaky. any insight as to why?
Likely training exercises. There was probably some landmark or ground facility that they wanted to mock as a base or installation of some sort.
Kinda looks like it isn't very far off those magnetic tape drives from the 60s. I'm sure it does the job.
Good to have them. Russian federation just established new heli base on suursaari for rapid deployment troops.
Didn't the RAF get rid of all their AWACS planes?

Bruh, awacs are still needed and used, they help and are useful
