  • SMART light SWITCH installed; NO NEUTRAL wire needed.
    Link to Smart Switch:
    Amazon Basics: amzn.to/3RipPuY
    I now recommend buying the Amazon Basics brand due to the constant troubles I have with connection. The wiring is the same as shown in the video. 12/8/2023.
    In this video I go through the installation and set-up of a smart light switch. I use AMAZON ALEXA to control all my smart devices so you'll see me do that as well. I did have a hard time connecting to the Gosund app but it eventually worked. I use a mobile hotspot for my home Wifi because we don't have high speed internet where I live.

    Finally after a year of trying I'm so glad I stumbled on your video today!!!! So simple but yet so descriptive without 40 minutes of meaningless information!! Thanks NGN!

    great simplification of showing how both the neutral wire and ground wire are attached to the same bus bar

    Thank you for this video it helps tremendously.
    I like the smile when you were asking Alexa if her light was on. Priceless.
    I too have a daughter that leaves her lights on and I bought a set of switches and then realized I don’t have a neutral wire.
    Thank you 😊

      Thanks for the great comment. Glad it helped. My daughter is now at college but I still have this programmed to shut off on Monday at 8:00 am. That way when she's home on the weekend I don't get stuck with it running all week!

    Yours is the only video I've come across that shows that that the smart switch's WiFi module retains power when the switch is turned off when the neutral wire is connected to ground. That's the whole purpose of the neutral wire on the switch to begin with. Several other videos I've watched show that the lights can be toggled manually using this method, but none have shown that the network portion remains active. Thank you for this.

    Why do ppl say not to wire the neutral and ground wire together they say it’s dangerous? Could you help me understand that because I have no neutral but all research I found said not to do it because it could be hazardous?

    • @NoGasNiko
      @NoGasNiko  2 месяца назад

      It's because you shouldn't have power running to ground. Ground wires are typically not insulated. With these devices there is very little power to keep the WiFi active. It's milliamps. That will not cause a problem. I've had mine running for a couple years now and no issues. I do not give advice on what you should do for liability reasons, you need to assume all responsibility when it comes to electricial work. If you're not confident, please hire an electrician.

    Hi i just read a ton of info and could see that while this works incase if the ground connection breaks that would energize everything which means any metal surface that is grounded is now live…..now my concern is what makes the ground connection break? My ground is bare copper and if it gets energised thats a real problem for me. So im looking for the chances of ground break

    • @NoGasNiko
      @NoGasNiko  8 месяцев назад +1

      If the ground connection breaks, you'd lose connection to WiFi. That should be it. I may not fully understand what you mean by ground circuit breaking.

  • @vvarjat

    I've got the same setup in my house (3way, no neutral) and I saw this recommendation.
    However, reading further, I see this is against code. The neutral carries current back to the panel, which is why it's insulated. Where as the ground carries current ONLY in the case of a fault, which the breaker then trips when it detects that.
    Does this mean that there's a potential of either sending current back to the panel and tripping the breaker, or worse, because we're sending the current on the bare, exposed ground wire, you're potentially electrifying metal objects on this circuit??
    For anyone that has this installation, have you tested how much current is being sent down the ground wire with this setup?

    • @NoGasNiko
      @NoGasNiko  3 месяца назад

      Most ground wires are within the sheathing and not at risk if contact with bare metal. This is the case with mine. I don't have bare copper running from these switches to the panel.
      Best bet is to bring in an electrician and make sure what you do is safe.

      @@NoGasNiko My circuit has 4 lights on it. I implemented this as a test, and one of the lights is permanently on. Very dim, but when the lights are "off" all are completely off, except the one that permanently stays on.

    • @palerider7924
      @palerider7924 3 месяца назад

      The switch needs milli amps so there's nothing really in that ground wire. I don't know why it's against code the neutral and ground connect at the panel.

  • @afumahujalulaba

    What if we have 2 lights and a exhaust fan in the circuit, would we need to purchase additional capacitors for each of the components in the circuit?

    • @NoGasNiko
      @NoGasNiko  8 месяцев назад

      Are you talking about a 3 way switch? They sell these as 3 way also. You don't need both switches as wifi, only 1 is necessary to control the circuit. It needs to be wired correctly or it won't work. If you're not familiar with wiring these I suggest getting a licensed electrician to install.

      So , there’s no real proof it will work without the neutral ?
      Manual yes ,,, and since these and all smart switch need a little power to function , will it still work by voice without the neutral

    • @NoGasNiko
      @NoGasNiko  Год назад +1

      OK. I understand what you're saying now. I can tell you that I have at least 3 of these working without a neutral wire. It's what prompted me to do the video. It works, guaranteed. Since the neutral and ground are connected together at the panel its no different connecting them at the switch. Hope that helps.
