Yall are definitely doing this right as breeders. I dont know of any that will actually got to the lengths yall have of actually getting the litters eyes ofa checked. Most will just have the parents certified.
@ghee cappy mine has Webbed paws too but I don’t think he likes water.. yet?? He completely avoids shallow water and puddles on walks. He’s only 6 months, will he grow into liking it?
You guys are great! So much useful information. I’m considering getting a GSP next spring. So glad I stumbled upon your RUclips channel, it is guiding me in a big way when it comes to making an informed decision about whether to chose this breed or another. They certainly are a labour of love by the sounds of it…lol
Thank you for posting this! Nice to know what to expect when I pick up my puppy at the end of the year. Question: how long is the whole puppy pick up day? (What time do people show up and how long do they stay before taking a puppy home?)
Hey George. I'm no Veterinarian or trainer, but I have a 8yr old black lab. Any large breed puppy formula will work but I will say you get what you pay for when it comes to dog food. One thing you should keep an eye on is the amount of bowel movements. If you feed your puppy twice a day and your puppy poops 4 times a day, then your puppy is not getting the needed nutrition out of that food. I had a vizsla that only ate IAMS. So when i got Jax (black lab) i started to feed him that. His stomach did not care for it at all, loose and frequent stools. So I switched, monitored again and actually had to switch again to a different brand. Every dog is going to be different and breed shouldn't matter as much as the size of the breed. There are tons of great videos out there on food content and feeding procedures. Good luck to you.
I know that GSPa are bred for hunting but I was wondering if you felt they would make good service dogs for retrieving objects and pressure therapy. I am drawn to them due to their size, what are their temperaments (generally) like? I know they are very active dogs and I know that walking with a handler is different than running in a field. Is this something this breed could generally succeed in or should I look towards other breeds? Thank you in advance, you videos have been very helpful.
@@cailynrossiter5569 I have trained a couple of GPS as service dogs and I find that they are margi al at best. Too "birdy" and hard of hearing h (selectively) but they are awesome field dogs. Some of the best in my opinion.
We are bringing home a 7 week puppy in 2 weeks from a location that's 4 hours away from us. Not sure if they have been crate trained or potty trained at all...Any advice on what to bring for the 4 hour car ride home? Please let me know, thank you!
My dog is a 2 year old english pointer is there any solution to help her she got scared with the fireworks on 4th of july and when i took her to my membership shooting club she got scared the same way, is there any solution to help her not be afraid anymore
I'd say, regarding water, be mindful of the kind of food you're feeding them. Some foods may make the puppy more thirsty and talk to the vet as to how long it's safe for a pup to hold their bladder and bowels. I would imagine of you overdo that it may end up causing bladder infections or digestive issues as far as pooping. It's usually not healthy for humans to hold their bladder/bowels for hours, so.. check with the vet for your pups age. 😉
I have an 11 year old gsp and am bringing a new puppy home in a couple weeks. What advice do you have for training a puppy without it picking up older dogs bad habits and behaviors? As I didn’t know a lot about training when I got the older dog
I've been watching your videos for 2 months now ever since we decided to get a gsp puppy. Great videos btw! I've seen most of your videos but I can't find one that will answer my concern. I get my puppy in 2 weeks and we have a cat thats 1 year old. Is it possible to have both and coexistent happily in a house hold or will he try to hunt her down?
not a fan of Eukan kibble. not an e-collar; would rather use The Wildrose Way or Dogbone Hunter’s Jeremy Moore’s method. I’ve done this way with my previous Chocolate Lab. So it will be interesting to compare the two methodologies. I like the videos put together by Standing Stone; especially the nail clipping one. I am also concerned about the vaccine toxicity that more research is beginning to surface - See Dr Karen Becker’s books.
I’m picking up our first GSP pup next Saturday and the amount of information I’m gaining from you two is astounding! Excellent work!!
This is an excellent video. Every breeder should have this same conversation every time they send a puppy home.
Thank you for watching our videos! We want to help set up new puppy owners for success!
@@StandingStoneKennels I have been raising, trauning buying and selling dogs since 1970 and have never seen such a great video.
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to us!

Thanks for the kind words and watching!
Wow this really helped, getting my lab puppy in a few hours hehe
@ghee cappy I love him

@ghee cappy I live in UK mate dw about gators 😂. Yeah he’s a working lab so he should love chasing ducks through rivers
Great information. On pick up day, I prefer a private pickup. But super informative!

What food would you recommend for black lab puppy? Then when they transition into adult hood?

Honestly there are better breeds on average for this type of work.
