Respect Brian May for his humble response. Too many Guitar God's makes it impossible to name the #1 best 🎸 ist.

Brian may not consider himself the best but he is the most recognizable guitarist in rock- as soon as he hits a note, you know it's him!

He IS the Best in my opinion. And that's saying alot in a sea of guitarists that I rock to.

Yes. His sound is unique for many reasons. The way of attacking strings (AFAIK he still uses a coin instead of a pick which adds this metal crispness to the sound), IMO absolutely unique phrasing and of course those counter-phase pickups which add binaural phase-through effect to the mix.

There are quite a few you could say that about. Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour, obviously. Angus Young.

@@markhill9275 Yes, many are recognizable, but most definitely Brian’s sound is very recognizable. Stevie Ray Vaughan has said that many times as well as others. You might think he is not the best, but his sound is very recognizable.

I agree totally.. Though there are amazing guitarists out there now and over the years.. Mark Knofler is one to mention too.. To be honest, I feel that when we are talking about the very best guitar players.. It comes down to personal opinions.

The lists dont need to be numbered - they can just have them listed by birthyear or whatever - but that sells less newspapers.

Brian’s one of the greats but there are so many. I’m old and still discovering new greats. Lots of youngsters coming up who’ve put their 10k hours in. Mike Campbell…..John Mayer etc., etc.
