The flexing is kind of good though its absorbing a lot of recoil instead of going right into the shooters shoulder, but at the same time thats a big piss for controllability.

@Snake Eyes The walls of an AK barrel are pretty thin. Especially when you're talking about 7.62x39. Combine that with the violent, long stroke gas system of the AK and the barrel is going to whip. This one looks like it's getting a lot of gas too so that is going to exacerbate it even more.

All that flexing under fire is precisely why AKs are riveted together instead of machine screws or being welded. That's the only fastener that will hold up to the abuse and not strip out, malfunction or fall apart. A weld is strong however it can't flex and would be rigid eventually cracking with stress.

That flange on the end of the muzzle really does make a difference acting like a muzzle brake. The barrel flexes downward while the receiver flexes upward due to the motion of the bolt carrier. A precursor to counterbalancing AK assault rifles. Amazing gun and very rare piece of German and Russian engineering.

      Some clarification.
      1) The AK that your fiance's father brought back to the USA was not made in Cuba, I can guarantee you this with 1000% certainty. The reason why is simple; there are no Kalashnikov manufacturers in Cuba, nor have there ever been. Most likely, his rifle was originally manufactured by a factory in Russia or Europe and was later exported/smuggled into the Americas, hence why it ended up in Grenada.
      2) Your fiance's father never sold that AK because it was an illegally smuggled assault rifle, which is not something that regular Americans are allowed to own, contrary to popular belief. Selling that rifle would be the equivalent of trying to sell a fully-automatic assault rifle in New Zealand.

@@user-ij9sh1tf9d Probably. I just assumed it was a Cuban made AK since there were Cuban 🇨🇺 troops in Grenada 🇬🇩 that did help in trying to fight off US 🇺🇸 forces during the 1983 Invasion of Grenada.
I do get that the Soviet Union also supplied communist countries like Cuba 🇨🇺 and Grenada 🇬🇩 with Soviet-made weapons but also that the Soviets gave licenses to their allies such as North Korea 🇰🇵, China 🇨🇳, Romania 🇷🇴, Bulgaria 🇧🇬, East Germany 🇩🇪, Poland 🇵🇱 and Egypt 🇪🇬 to build their own license built AKs, hence I assumed they gave Cuba 🇨🇺 a license as well.

Some say that the handguard is not made out of bakelite.
That should be the material from Trabant ( Duroplast).

Unless you're a really amateur gunsmith or just happen to be from Kyber Pass, AKs look good no matter where they're made from.

Seeing how much this AK flexed in slow motion, I wonder if an AK with a milled receiver would flex as much?

Loads ended up in the Finnish military with their armor units. They are all wire stock side folders though. They also got loads of fixed stock rifles for reserve units for cheap prices in the 90's after the collapse of East Germany.

This weapon I used daily in battles against Al Qaeda in Baghdad, Haifa Street, at least a day. I shoot 250 rounds, sometimes in hours. I throw more than 250 rounds. A good weapon that can withstand heat and cools quickly and does not lose its focus on the target.

The slant brake causes immediate propagation of a vertical wave that is evident in the buttstock slamming into your cheek. I notice when I shoot AKMs on semi, the muzzle dips down excessively.
