I watched Barbie movie and Oppenheimer on the same day. I came back on Sunday to watch Barbie movie because It was fun, emotional, thought-provoking, and meticulous. I loved the shared experience and dressing up for the Barbie movie with complete strangers. Barbie also made me cry both times I saw it. I was genuinely surprised that I enjoyed Barbie. The mother/daughter storyline got me in the feels watching the movie with my daughter that's heading into the teen years. Glad she wanted to see it, because I wasn't planning on watching it in theaters. 💗
Yes that surprised me. I saw it with two of my 3 adult daughters and really teared up thinking about that time between leaving childhood behind heading into High School and then truly stepping out into the world.
I was pretty disappointed this weekend when I couldn't see Mission Impossible at the IMAX. Had to watch it on a crummy standard screen full of idiots talking and using their phones. Every Imax showing was taken up by Oppenheimer. I hope Mission sticks around long enough to return to the Imax screen as I definitely want to see it again.
@@josemv25 because it’s fascinating to follow. Millions of people love seeing how movies are doing, what the biggest films of the year are, what factors dictate a films success, celebrating the success of movies they love. People have enjoyed following box office numbers since newspapers in the 1910s.
I’m going to try to see Oppenheimer again this week. It was a little too choppy for me to follow, but I feel on a second watch I’ll be able understand the movie more.
Went to see MI7 (8/10) and Oppenheimer (9.5/10) over the weekend, but the BUZZ in the multiplex was insane, especially from women (not sure I can say that now) dressed in pink… Was great energy and was nice to see. Very upbeat atmosphere throughout the cinema.
I think that the reason why female led superhero films don't do well in drawing in female moviegoers is because superheroes in general appeal mostly to males than females. The hard honest truth of the matter is that properties and franchises like Marvel,DC,and Star Wars appeal mostly (NOT SOLELY) to males. Where BARBIE is a property that appeals mostly (NOT SOLELY) to females.
Women account for 46.67% of comic book readers so there is definitely an audience for marvel and dc movies among women. I follow a lot of female comic book nerds who know their shit It’s just that a marvel and dc’s male writers have often failed to create compelling female narratives or they fail at adapting them well. Plus, women have no issue relating to male characters but the reverse isn’t always true for men.
This is nuts! I’m so happy to have been part of this amazing box office event. The most hype the theater has been since Spider No Way Home/Endgame. It was amazing seeing all the groups with custom shirts, and so many little troops of girls and folks wearing pink. Oppenheimer was devastating on a cultural level, but Barbie was more existential on a personal level for me. I loved them both!! So happy. Thank you, Grace ❤
These movie help each other, but the props go to Barbie because it created a moment and event full of pink on theaters... Lovely I saw both the same day, but i'm only going back next weekend for Barbie

I’m curious about the comment that Oppenheimer was sold as a “comic book-like movie”, I don’t think I saw any promotion that even resembled something comic book-y or even blockbuster-y. Everything I saw was pretty cut and dry biopic/prestige drama promo
Idk why but Grace seems to have a vendetta against Oppenheimer, it absolutely was not marketed as a comic book like movie at all. It got the same marketing style as most of Nolan's other films outside of the Dark Knight trilogy: heavily reliant on cool visuals and booming soundtracks. Both were great movies, but I did like Oppenheimer a little bit more than Barbie.
I mean, it’s totally valid for Grace not to like something! I’m just not sure if I missed an awkwardly cut trailer or character poster based on that point
Seeing Barbie's numbers makes me so glad that professional clowns like Benny Shapiro didn't get their way this time around, as HARD as they tried. I can only hope that people are finally seeing how ridiculous these millionaire political trolls look, shaking their fingers at everything they don't like, telling us what to watch and what not to watch.
You mean like how every movie site pretty much blasted Sound of Freedom only for it to backfire. A movie with no fanfare costing nothing to make breaks 100 million. Quit acting like liberals including Grace dont play dirty!!
I'll never understand why a grown men would get upset about a movie based on a girls toyline? You think it *WOULDN'T* pander to that audience? What are you expecting, a John Wick type movie?

Saw Barbie last night in Nuremberg, Germany and was surprised all the English showings were sold out. I thought I'll have to wait until I was back in the USA to watch the movie. Also, almost everyone came in pink outfits.

They just remember your last thing. Which in Margot Robbie’s case is now the biggest opening of the year!! Way to be a “Hollywood insider” Grace! Way to read the tea leaves and share your insider takes and scoops with us 😂
Yep. He wanted to cast his own Bond, they didn't want two Bonds running around during Craig's tenure. Honestly I don't think it would've mattered since they took such long breaks between Craig's films. He'd also probably want to co-write the script without their usual guys, another sticking point.
I love Tom and McQ but I don't know what they were thinking with the Part 1. The title couldn't have meant that much to them that they couldn't have come up with two distinct titles just in case Part 1 scares ppl away
For some reason I just can't retain the title to _Mission Impossible 7: ?? part 1,_ though even remembering _Mission Impossible: Fallout_ was difficult.
Exactly. Know your target audience! A big reason that recent Disney movies have failed is because their movies have neglected their target audiences, e.g. the inaccurate casting in The Little Mermaid; Indiana Jones being upstaged by Waller-Bridge in his own movie, etc. Despite some of the criticisms the Barbie movie is receiving, Barbie is a female IP and the movie is correctly tailored *for* women, so it's making money.
Oppenheimer won't be on digital for quite a while. it's sold out on IMAX for at least three weeks and Universal will undoubtedly re-release it in theaters in time for Oscar season. Probably won't be on digital until after the Oscars next year.
I hope they both have great holds and would do a Barbenheimer again if I could find the time. If I had to choose one, it’s Oppenheimer I want to see again in the cinema. The cinema I saw it in may not have been IMAX but it was the biggest screen possible where I live and the Dolby ATMOS sound was incredible. I had no problem understanding the dialogue and in fact found that despite it being so talky, it was easy to comprehend. There was only one moment when the soundtrack played over the dialogue but I have no doubt that was deliberate. I loved how the dialogue and soundtrack were structured to play like action, building the tension and revving up towards the climactic explosion. Nolan demanded and received top of their game acting performances from his cast. Barbie was also beautifully acted, thought provoking and so entertaining. I was surprised at the emotional moments and also at the fantastic music numbers. You know, think I will make the time to see both again in the cinema…
I was not going to watch Oppenheimer or Barbie in theaters, but thanks to an event at my job, we got to choose what to watch between the two and we chose Oppenheimer and I LOVED IT!!! What a movie! Definitely in my top ten favorite movies of all time. Cillian Murphy will definitely win an Oscar and it will be deserved! In the case of Barbie, I'm not interested and don't feel the need to watch it in theaters, soooo... I'm waiting for streaming.
Hopefully Margot is not in the Fantastic 4 film like some reports suggest because she is in everything like the Rock!!! Enough, give opportunity to other actores 🙏🏻💯
hearing Barbie's Sunday is coming in higher (45 mil) than expected, which would give it a 164 million opening weekend (we'll find out for sure tomorrow). That's crazy! Also bodes well for the weekday totals and next weekend holds.
I'll tell you my opinion on Mission Impossible... with its meticulous multiple agencies mixed up throughout and within multiple characters, and the extremely fast paced mojo makes it really hard for a lot of people to follow. Personally my brain can't handle the who's who and wtf they are doing 😂
The people who watched Mission Impossible rated it higher than those who watched Oppenheimer. The problem is that MI suffered from the hype of Barbie. I think Barbie drive Oppenheimer
I'm watching Barbie again next weekend 😂 but I'm really excited about the shows coming out soon- Twisted Metal, The Lioness, Harley Quinn, and One Piece live action (August 31) I'm so excited- this summer has really fed me well 😊
I will be seeing Barbie this upcoming weekend. I can’t do double features when one of the movies is 3hours long. I liked Oppenheimer but it was too long and it’s a slow burn. I will not be rewatching Oppenheimer even though I’m a fan of Nolan movies. Can’t wait to see Barbie this weekend 😊
I haven't gotten a chance to see either one, but I plan on seeing both. I know Covid is starting to surge a bit so I wanted to wait until the theaters weren't quite as packed. All of my friends are planning on seeing both but haven't gotten to go yet just because they've been darn near sold out, so most of them plan to go next weekend.
I think Barbie is gonna have a hard drop off. I havent heard good reviews from women in my circle of friends. I think most people that want to see Oppenheimer like myself, are waiting for openings to see it in IMAX. It was very difficult to get a decent seat as there arent many IMAX theaters in the Chicago area. I also think its amazing Grace that you’re still pushing this movie for award status lol
@@itsbeyondme5560Like i said, i know a lot of people that are waiting to see Oppenheimer in IMAX. I have to wait till Tuesday just to see it…and i’m not alone
@itsbeyondme5560 Nope, Oppenheimer will continue to do very well. Barbie will as well. One thing to note is people seem to forget that Barbie also cost about 50 million more and had a more expensive marketing campaign. Right now, profit wise, they are likely even.
Everyone talks about what Nolan did for comic book movies, but not enough about what they did for him. His movies before where great, but much more niche with little turn out, getting to expose his talent to a movie that a ton of people where always going to see has turned him into a box office machine, and I think he really learned how to market a film from it as well.
For the most part, Im kind of done with "same old same old" cinema. These two movies were fresh and that's what I like to go see. I will for sure go see Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon. They look quite good.
There's been so many movies I wanted to see this summer but its so time consuming that it's hard to find time every week to do it. I really think the whole box office would benefit from cutting down on the commercials and trailers to get people in and out faster. If it didn't take half a day to go to the movies it would be easier to go more often.

😅 One of the MOST IMPORTANT and MOST ANTICIPATED Movie Math of the year, and probably of all time. We needed this crucial boost to benefit the movie industry and movie lovers everywhere! #Barbie #Oppenheimer #Barbenheimer
Completely! And I feel like the importance of writers is really highlighted in both films.
Sound of Freedom is a very powerful movie and heartbreaking!

Oppenheimer just shocked me but I still want to watch it in true IMAX or 70mm. I would watch Barbie movie another time too. Both fascinating and must watch films.
Penny Marshall has 2 big hits with Big(1988) and A League Of Their Own(1992l. She was also directed Oscar nominee Awakenings. Put some respect on her name Grace! Lol
Good call on Marshall. I'm pretty sure Streisand directed a couple of hits relative to their era too.
I've watched Oppenheimer friday 8 pm CET and Barbie the next day at 11 am CET. I've liked both films. Both had weaknesses, but both were enjoyable expierences. These films are the best example, that cinema isn't dead, but that people want to see something new currently.
Btw. watching the video simultanously while writing: I 100% agree on the potential nominations Barbie should get.
I can’t believe you gave Oppenheimer a bad review 🤦♂️
It had real acting and wasn't female lead no suprised she didn't like it
yikes that 64 percent drop for Dead recockning
If Nolan gets to direct Bond he will immediately cast Tom Hardy and I’m here for it
I don't think the Bond franchise like superstar directors overshadowing the movie, that's why they rejected Spielberg.
I just got out of the theater watching Oppenheimer and I think it is easily one of the best movies of the year
I agree. It’s a masterpiece.
I cannot wait to see it, i dont live in America so we dont really get like sold out tickets like the U.S do when they have to by tickets way in advance...I know some other people that really want to see it too so will see when we can all get together..im glad u liked it.......Barbie im sure i will see eventually...

It was good to see Robert Downey Jr doing a serious role instead of being in another superhero costume. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

This is THE movie math! Like, THE weekend to be a film lover and to be a fan of box office business. Thanks for the coverage Grace!

@@josemv25 because it’s fascinating to follow. Grace, Noah Baumbach is right there! He should definitely be involved with a Ken spinoff alongside Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie
I think it would have been funny if Ken had a post-credits or mid-credits scene that repeated the scene in _Transformers: Rise of the Beasts._
Greta Gerwig is going to torpedo her momentum with the fact she's writing the inevitable cinematic catastrophe that is Snow White.
Sounds reasonable. I can't see too many of the _Barbie_ audience identifying with _Atomic Blonde_ for example.
Women account for 46.67% of comic book readers so there is definitely an audience for marvel and dc movies among women. I follow a lot of female comic book nerds who know their shit
It’s just that a marvel and dc’s male writers have often failed to create compelling female narratives or they fail at adapting them well. Plus, women have no issue relating to male characters but the reverse isn’t always true for men.
You are correct. I remember hearing Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman (1st movie) doing well with male audiences despite a female lead.
People were being a party pooper on Barbie without even seeing it, just like Grace was being a party pooper without seeing Sound of Freedom
No one cares about Sound of QAnon Freedom propaganda lmao
This is nuts! I’m so happy to have been part of this amazing box office event. The most hype the theater has been since Spider No Way Home/Endgame. It was amazing seeing all the groups with custom shirts, and so many little troops of girls and folks wearing pink. Oppenheimer was devastating on a cultural level, but Barbie was more existential on a personal level for me. I loved them both!! So happy. Thank you, Grace ❤
A HUGE round of applause needs to go to the marketing team for BOTH films . They need raises ! Outstanding work .
These movie help each other, but the props go to Barbie because it created a moment and event full of pink on theaters... Lovely
I saw both the same day, but i'm only going back next weekend for Barbie
Another double dip! So many comments like this. What a big win for feminism
Barbie helped Oppenheimer get trendier and more popular, Oppenheimer helped Barbie to be taken more seriously
I'm shocked at how successful Oppenheimer was. I really don't understand how a movie like that makes more than Mission Impossible.

The other side tried to do the same to Sound of Freedom, and failed MISERABLY. So lets not get carried away.
Seeing Barbie only made me even more excited to see what Greta Gerwig does with Narnia. I’m so glad the film did so well, it truly deserves it.
Please feminist community allow her to make Narnia a masterpiece that we deserved for so long even if the first movie is actually good we need the entire series completed this time!
She should be absolutely nowhere NEAR Narnia.
Isn’t it obvious who should direct the Ken movie? Noah Baumbach! Just have him and Greta Gerwig switch roles
Indiana Jones with a budget of $294.7 million only making $335 million world wide is a box office disaster.
Saw Barbie last night in Nuremberg, Germany and was surprised all the English showings were sold out. I thought I'll have to wait until I was back in the USA to watch the movie. Also, almost everyone came in pink outfits.

Nolan wants full control in order to direct a bond movie.
Yep. He wanted to cast his own Bond, they didn't want two Bonds running around during Craig's tenure. Honestly I don't think it would've mattered since they took such long breaks between Craig's films. He'd also probably want to co-write the script without their usual guys, another sticking point.
Looking forward to season 4 of Harley Quinn
Top Gun Maverick wasn't the 7th film in a franchise that had a Part 1 in the title.
I am very confused. When was Oppenheimer ever marketed as a superhero film? 🤔
Barbie knew its target audience, didn't shy away from it, appealed to it and delivered. DISNEY HAS A LOT TO LEARN...
Poor MI Dead Reckoning ☹️
Funny thing is Barbie is a WB film and it made way more than Oppenheimer.
Super hero movies based on comics read by 90% men. You're never going to make money from women using this genre
Latinamerica’s memes with barbieheimer was huge, and they are doing the same with blue beetle.
I have to admit that I went to Mission: Impossible 7 this weekend. I didn't have the time or money for Barbenheimer.
Didn't bother to see Oppenheimer this weekend. Although I'm interested in seeing it, I'll wait until it's on digital
Same here. 3 hour runtime was also not at all encouraging
That, along with Indy 5 and MI7. Christmas is gonna be good.

Oppenheimer won't be on digital for quite a while. it's sold out on IMAX for at least three weeks and Universal will undoubtedly re-release it in theaters in time for Oscar season. Probably won't be on digital until after the Oscars next year.
I watched Barbie and Oppenheimer on Friday night. Pulled a double feature. What a night!
An opinion that differes to Grace.

I think I've never seen a symbiotic adv champaign so successful like this. The natural flow through social media has been phenomenal.
One thing to point out is that Barbie was larger due to the film being PG-13 and Oppenheimer being rated R, so the film was not as successful
