My first name is David, so I am familiar with the "giant deformed 'A' that looks like a crab" 😂. Thank you again for making the Cyrillic alphabet digestible for us English speaking people in North America, Europe and Australia!
This is the best way to teach pronunciation. When she uses the English language equivalent of each letter, it strips away the mystery and shows you already know how to pronounce the letter based on a word in which you already use it.
I love your teaching style. You're very endearing and make the language seem much less intimidating than it is. I'm going to Russia on a very last minute trip in two weeks, and I've been playing this to help me keep calm and learn Cyrillic. Very well done!!
I can't believe I am reading and sounding out Cyrillic letters in 10 minutes. I am not even finished the video yet and I am reading and sounding words out. Love this! Thanks so much for posting. Your teaching style is great. Very positive energy.
Elena, I have watched numerous alphabet videos but yours kept me locked in. Like I couldn't get away. Excellent job! And thank you for sharing with us.
Your a great teacher 👩🏫 I have been learning Russian for the past week will not stop ether because I love your guys country I hope you are safe after all you guys are in war I hope my country does not affect the way you guys will treat Americans after the war ❤
That was amazing. Now I can read cyrillic after just 26 minutes. I thought it would take months of practice but this was simple, fast & straight to the point. Even if I don't pronounce the words correctly, I at least know the letters & sounds. You definitely have a new subscriber. Thank you.
I subscribed. Very helpful, and I like your teaching style. I am following a handful of teachers on RUclips that are teaching Russian language. It seems to help learning from multiple teachers.
i started learning Russian recently and i really struggled with the letters , your video solved all my problems :D , i'm looking forward for all your videos from now on , and here's a little tip , you don't have to take the whole video on one go , you edit it you know ;) , thank you again for the video it was really great and helpful!
I nearly fell out of my chair laughing from the Karaoke and the Flinstones references. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Learned a LOT in a short time: a perfect way to learn something that his dull, hard and extremely valuable. Great job! I hope all my efforts to learn Russian will be so entertaining and valuable.
I am learning russian because I love shashka and want to understand Ойся, ты ойся. my greatest problem is that I have been 78 years in the Latin alphabet and the cyrillic is so different, but I'm not going away. best wishes from wales in the UK
Thank you! I’ve been watching so many videos and could never get a good understanding of the alphabet, until I found your video. You do a really good job, at helping me understand.
I could watch this a hundred times and still nit get sick of listening to your method of teaching, that apart from lovely voice. Nicely done and thanks.
Well done. Fits with my learning style. You give me plenty of time to repeat and practice without pausing. I can easily read, write, and speak along with you. Until the very end when you lost me completely. It took me a while to realize you were counting! 😃
this, is a language coach. you are in her heart and mind as you listen. adding music is really next level. ive had the privilege to have learned with some great ppl... this woman could easily be among them based on what im seeing. i hope she is having a good day!!!
thanks so much, I have like 5 russian friends in my friend group and for fun i wanna be able to text them back and forth in russian, and although it’ll take a while i appreciate all the help i can get. Your teaching style is great! So sick.
Elena, thank you so much!I'm from Brazil, and I'm trying to learn russian, and even with a printed material I was having a hard time learning the difference between hard and soft signs, but with your explanation I finally understand!I subscribed your channel and I'll keep watching your lessons, you are great. Thank you so much!
The sound is similar but Щ start with a S. Something like that. The google translater help a lot. You tipe de letter Щ, then clik the button hear\listen. Repeat for Ш .
It took a while for me as well. The key for me was two words - shoe (ш) and sheep (щ). Say the two words slowly, exaggerating the sh sound at the beginning and note carefully how your mouth naturally forms to start to say each word. You'll notice that your lips and teeth are in different positions for each and the щ sound for sheep sounds higher pitched. Hopefully this will help you. I still have problems with ы. I can do it OK on its own, but in the middle of words I have trouble. It will come with practice!
I've found that having taken a class in linguistics really helps me differentiate between the more similar-sounding letters and vowel sounds. A lot of it has to do with mouth shape and tongue placement.
OMG I needed this refresher!!! You are amazing!! And I added my name to the list so I may review an alert when an opening is available for your classes again. Of course the classes are maxed out - you’re good!
I love your style so much. Putting it to music (by singing) helps so much. Another commenter said they wanted pictures... I disagree. That would probably dilute the process of connecting the cyrillic letters visually to sounds in the brain. Bravo, I wish everything was taught with this kind of careful thought.
As an English speaker I have heard that A K M O T are the letters that are similar to English, but everything else is very different. I appreciate this teaching style, coming from an American perspective. Thank you so much!
Hi. Thank you so much for this video. I spent a couple days using apps and flash cards to learn the alphabet and it wasn’t really working. I watched this video twice and nailed it. I love your way of teaching it. Many thanks!
Wow, love the teaching method. Am starting to learn Russian and what better way than to have the Lady Lara Croft method, seriously playful or playfully serious 👍
Elena jung salam to you your mdthod of teaching russian alphabet is very very excellent.she pronounces the letter sound three times.then she gave words common between russian and english however she should have transliterated strange-sounding russian words into english alphabet
Love this teaching style, I tried so many times to learnt cyrillic by myself but just now I succeeded. I love the visualization thing in the beginning, I know many other russian women that use manifestation in other fields of life, I wonder if it´s cultural or it´s just become increasingly popular.... Thank you so much Elena
Absolutely love this. I've watched so many videos trying to learn the best way to pronounce and write these letters and this was by far the most helpful!
It's the tricky consonant sounds and modifiers that people seem to struggle with. I like the way you use simple melodic references as a mnemonic. Now I can see how the modifiers shape the sounds. Thanks for your video!
That was delightful. I'm so grateful. You are a very gifted teaching with an excellent teaching style that reveals a very endearing personality, as the previous commentator said. Despite everything that is going on in the world, this is a reminder of how important and enriching it is to broad the divide. wishing you well. Thanks so much.

I still can't differentiate the sound of ш and щ. Can you please elaborate more?
Good practice is to listen to audio minimal pairs with these 2 sounds and train your ear.
The sound is similar but Щ start with a S. Something like that. The google translater help a lot. You tipe de letter Щ, then clik the button hear\listen. Repeat for Ш .
