It's a great game only held back by the poor direction of Brenden McNamara, the gameplay is basic but I mean for a game that was released in 2011 its great, it has that classic R* game DNA... La Noire has an excellent narrative with an unlikable main character and it's awesome, we see the downfall of a narc and teacher's pet that got his men killed during the war because of poor leadership
La noire is by far the best crime thriller rockstar has ever released alongside with team bondi, the 1940s settings mixed with the messed up crime scenes and a story with colm being a good detective with a bad background thrown into the world where people are corrupt was just chefs kiss.
44:53 Actually, this did happen to one of the more popular suspects in the BD case. Leslie Dillon, a bellhop, fled to Oklahoma and was able to avoid extradition or questioning because his ex-wife was the cousin of then Illinois governor Adlais Stevenson the second. Adlais contacted the governor of Oklahoma, who then denied the extradition.
Its a shame how underrated thid game is. It has the formula to be a really mainstream game yet it's criminally underrated. In my opinion, this is a 10/10 game. The story, gameplay everything was just perfection.
L.A. noire is the game that sparked my interest in the whole film noir movie genre... so many great movies the game took inspiration from for its missions
Am I the only one that gets really into these retrospectives of games, some super popular, despite never having played them myself? great video as always man
Master class writing from the LA Noire team. The depths they took to write the characters of Cole Phelps and Jack Kelso are something you never see in video games currently. The game shifts from Cole being the protagonist and Jack seemingly an antagonist, to the opposite. I have never seen or felt the same way about a story overall. I applause you LA Noire.
Fuzzy don't tease us with that Madmen retrospective...we need it. The STREETS need it dawg. That aside, I love LA Noire so you showing it love brings me joy. Much love, another great vid from u.

This is the second straight game review you have done where I am currently replaying the game you covered! Phelps is on Arson squad in my play through so I’ll be back later to watch! Just gotta show you support on day 1! I’m sure this is going to be a banger!
Since Malcolm in the Middle was brought up, I recognized two other actors who also appeared in the show: Steve Rankin (Archie Colmyer of Vice) played the sergeant when Reese joined the army, and Michael Chieffo (Gordon Leitvol in the Traffic case "A Slip of a Tongue") who coincidentally appears in the same episode as Hals public defender. Also the voice behind Herschel Biggs was in The Dark Knight as Gordons partner. You are welcome.
The fourth mission of vice is actually based on the movie "The Naked City" it almost happens exactly like the movie with many lines being thrown in aswell
I’m so happy to see you playing this, words cannot describe how eager I am to watch this! I would do anything to experience L.A. Noire for the first time again.
This game was the first one I ever went to the midnight release of at Gamestop and since the manager knew me well, I got a cardboard cutout of Phelps they used in the store as a bonus so to say I was a fan of the game is an understatement lol. It's still one of my favorite games Rockstar has done and your comments about the story really falling flat in the Vice section mirror how I felt playing during the original release learning about the affair and being surprised Phelps was even married (cause I didn't piece together that was him in the opening credits for whatever reason with his wife and I remember he doesn't really talk about his personal life much with his desk partners to even know he was married). The story is told really weirdly and abrupt sometimes but man if it ain't fun pressing X to Doubt crooks and a cast of Mad Men alumi. You earned a subscriber from this video, keep up the good work!
What a unique game. I really like the mystery solving aspect of it all. If a LA Noire 2 is ever made, which I doubt, i think it should take place in either Chicago or New York in the 1930-40s
I absolutely loved LA Noire when I was younger, I was so invested and impressed by the detail in it at the time, despite some mechanics of it being a little shallow. It’s an example of a game that came just a little too early. Replaying it again recently was great too, given that Mad Men is my favourite show of all time now. Being able to pick out all the faces from the show, that at one time meant nothing to me was a blast, I believe it was the same casting director. You should definitely watch it mate.
Thanks for your outstanding work Fuzzy. Just recently have been watching your retrospective on Bully and for some reason I just wondered would this guy gonna make review on Persona 4, then I recalled you'd been saying that after gta 5 you're not planning making huge projects anytime soon. But now I hear familiar chimes in backround music from advertising 2:26 and question rises up again. Are you going to make Persona 4 review? Maybe you're already working on it. I frankly hope you do.
One of the most ambitious games ever made in my opinion, the scale of the city, the technology behind the performances, innovative detective gameplay mechanics and amazing narrative... Definitely a masterpiece of a game, I still hope Rockstar does something else with this IP since they own it.

1:10:00 Maybe the film reel was actually just insurance, perhaps sh*t already hit the fan, so putting the reel in basically broad daylight was just giving everyone involved away.
This game desperately needs a sequel, there is no other game like it that can provide the same open world with in fairly in depth and interesting detective mechanics
Phelps tails Elsa and that's the first time they spend the night togheter. That's the begin of their hidden relationship. Before that it was just distance flirting. The movie, instead, it's an insurace: They ALL made it so that nobody could back off. It was a mutual assure destruction device in case anyone tried something funny. Probably all of them had a copy of it somewhere. So no, the game didn't drop the ball there. PS, I thought the homicide ending to perfectly fit the theme of corruption spread throughout the game.
Fantastic video and review as always Fuzzy Slippers! Just in case you didn’t know already, L.A. Noire was directed and written by Team Bondi founder Brendan McNamara, formerly of Team Soho and the director and writer of The Getaway. He also hired several former staff members of Team Soho to work at Team Bondi and on L.A. Noire. It was such a shame to see TB close shortly after the release of L.A. Noire but after reports of poor working conditions by several former employees, causing controversy for the studio and leading Rockstar Games to part ways with Team Bondi following L.A. Noire's release. As a result of this, the developer saw itself unable to sign a publishing deal for a new game that was being written by McNamara aka Whore of the Orient and instead sold all its assets to Kennedy Miller Mitchell.
This was the first game that I played that I actually wanted to restart immediately. I had broken my ankle so I was off work for a couple of weeks. It came out at the perfect time. I’ve played it several times since and enjoy each time I do.
I got the platinum trophy for LA Noire today and it might be my favourite game because it makes you feel like you're in the setting properly when most games don't. The characters talk exactly like people from 1947 would and all of the cars and buildings look exactly like the real versions and there aren't any modern agendas or joke styles injected into it and there isn't a massive hud or a waypoint on the player's view. After playing LA Noire I feel like I lived in LA in 1947 and I was there
@@elementalb3m957 yeah 3 is my guilty pleasure, buggy and unfinished as hell but you could tell the game had passion like the cars, guns and music. Probably my fav Mafia despite its shortcomings.

They need to make another LA Noire, I would love to play a new gen version ofvthis game or a sequel. If Rockstar released LA Noire or LA Noire 2, I'd sink so many hours into that game.
this game needs a remake, its in my top 3 when it comes to crime games like this and trust me i played my share. I get goosebumps every time I play it and I do not think I will ever get sick of it. The soundtrack, cut scenes. Beauty!
i don’t think people really acknowledge how insanely accurate and how well scaled it is to the actual los angeles it’s a near 1:1 scale. i played this game first at 12 but now at 24. i’ve driven around this city long enough where i was blown away how a neat perfect representation it is (for the time it’s set)
Congratulations for the sponsor! I need to check out that mask because I need one. In (Nothern) Finland, in summers sun never goes behind the horizon so it's light as day 24/7
Keith Szarabajka was so badass in the original Equalizer series from the 80s as an ex Navy seal Mickey. Super calm, extremely lethal and a physical powerhouse with rubber bones.
Couldn’t have asked for a better review. This is one of my favorite games ever, but it’s like you said before that it has it’s notable low points (mainly after the first portion of the vice desk.) Still I’m glad you played it. Great work as always
It's still crazy to me that Dr. Harlan Fontaine was actually played by the same actor who played Micah Bell in RDR2. Both characters even have the same face, based on the actor's likeness. Micah is just older and has a more rough look with all that hair. Props to Peter Blomquist for his acting skills, they genuinely feel like 2 different people.
Problem is rockstar is Far to lazy and They don't have the same development Process they used to have. I see this being a forever classic But one of the best in the entire rockstar universe!
Fantastic work as always! It's nice to see more videos & general discussion on L.A. Noire as of late, it's a game I find very fascinating as its unique approach to design/structure, 'motion scan' technology, and overall atmosphere is something we haven't seen replicated in any other experience in the 12 years since its launch. But it's a game that has a lot of flaws as well imo, it's story is unfocused and messy, leaving no room for deeper character exploration (e.g., we never see Cole Phillips personal life, like his wife & children), the gameplay loop leaves room for improvement, the street crimes need a lot of reworking as I think they should've been transformed into smaller police cases, etc. Also, while I actually like that this game takes a different approach to the open-world, I do think they could've done more with it, to utilize it properly, like integrating more unique interiors into cases. But despite all of its issues, I appreciate the place it holds in Rockstar's catalog, and I desperately hope they don't leave it in the dirt, because it's an IP with SO MUCH potential, imagine a sequel that takes the best ideas from L.A. Noire (e.g.,interrogations , detailed crime scenes, etc.), with an improved gameplay loop, that's closer to that of Rockstar, while still maintaining its unique atmosphere and structure, set in SF or NYC, with a more interactive world (read a newspaper, head home, more enterable locations, eating at a diner, a bar, etc.), a character driven and more focused narrative, greater gameplay diversity, a police station that acts like the camp from RDR2, where you get to know various other officers, head to your office to accept cases, with an intractable evidence room, etc., etc.
A point to mention, running the game at 60fps will make the animations look sped up as the game was made for 30 fps in mind and can lead to issues with certain puzzles
Oh yeah, I remember the random encounters, They're like the errands in Bully or some of the encounters in Red Dead Redemption. I remember in one of the street crimes there's a criminal on the roof you have to fight hand to hand and you actually have the choice to knock him out and take him in alive or you can really go nuts and throw the guy off the roof, which will make him land on top of a truck. I did both possibilities to see what the scenes looked like. The throwing off the roof option was insane though lol.
Pretty naïve to think that cole was only going to the blueroom because he “liked her singing” lol, Or thinking hes going over to “interrogate” her. I thought it was clear Cole was more than interested and having an affair with Elsa if you payed attention to the way he looks at her, and knowing hes making it a habit to go to the blueroom alone to sit and stare at elsa singing, afterwork rather than go home to his family
Great video, gets me the urge to play through the game again. But I'm surprised you didn't mention how this game was also made by Brendan McNamara, the same man behind The Getaway games, and it kinda shows an evolution of sorts with all the face capturing techniques, use of real actors and the strive for cinematic experiences in gaming, as well as the troubled development
I had to google when fingerprinting started. They should have gloves when touching stuff, fingerprints have been part of forensics in the US since about 1903.
I have a lot of bittersweet memories about this game. I don't know, i played when it first came out in a friends house, we reached BD and were blown out our minds, but as good loyal friends, since we never came together (damn adult life) to the point to waste a weekend on our own, never touched the game again. He moved out of the country, so the debt of not playing the game was over, in both codes, and talked even. Bought the game in Steam, played like a man with urgency, but was blown away to the fact, the apex of the game, was the BD mission, after that it was pretty bland, lost a lot of strenght, and the ending seem like a way to make amends of why Cole was so determined to make a name for himself. I don't know, until BD one of the best games i ever played, but after that, it lost it touch with me
Yo this is funny bc I just saw someone recommending to play L.A. Noire today in a Grim Fandango video comment section. I love Grim Fandango and I will probably give this a try too.
Ngl, the homicide section made me reconsider it. I thought it was tedious and pointless after the final reveal of them all having been the same killer, but it being yet more foreshadowing of the corrupt LAPD is clever. Cole is pressured into doing the wrong thing just too look good for papers, and he doesn't even realise since he's smart enough to figure out how the people catches *could* have done it.
I think manhunt is one of the only notable or infamous Rockstar games I haven't played... loved LA Noire and its detailed map and landmarks of LA but as a kid I was not expecting some of those homicide cases
27:40 Wtf? Lmfao!! Bro trying to get candid upskirt pics with a big cumbersome bright af flash bulb camera. Can't even creep on his targets discretely with that thing.

I think having the relative of high ranking official was a brilliant way of coving up that the dahlia was never solved
Alot of the actors in this game were also in Mad men
Oh hey it's this guy again, with another rockstar banger, I'm in.
But he did have evidence of elizabeth shorts murder he had her social security card, remember? Thats why hencant be a copy cat killer
random but I appreciate you saying @ 16:42 "for players who may not be able to read social cues"
The Persona 4 bgm playing on the ad break got me fucked up. My notifs are open if Fuzzy ever decides to cover JRPGs.
1:11:06 didn't agree with your take on the vice cases, or the Phelps infidelity revelation, but I agree about the news reel. It was lame, in hindsight
All hail the slippers of fuzz
I don't know, until BD one of the best games i ever played, but after that, it lost it touch with me
This game deserved a sequel
Carlos dropping some 🔥🔥🔥

Yo this is funny bc I just saw someone recommending to play L.A. Noire today in a Grim Fandango video comment section. I love Grim Fandango and I will probably give this a try too.
Ngl, the homicide section made me reconsider it. I thought it was tedious and pointless after the final reveal of them all having been the same killer, but it being yet more foreshadowing of the corrupt LAPD is clever. Cole is pressured into doing the wrong thing just too look good for papers, and he doesn't even realise since he's smart enough to figure out how the people catches *could* have done it.
Nice job Fuzz
I think manhunt is one of the only notable or infamous Rockstar games I haven't played... loved LA Noire and its detailed map and landmarks of LA but as a kid I was not expecting some of those homicide cases
Algorithm has been slipping, accidentally found over a year-long juicy backlog of my favorite games being discussed
Back when this game released in 2011, were mix reviews. But now…it’s a cult classic
Very unique game, and one of my favourites of all time. I have been trying to find a similar game, but I haven´t been able to for now.
27:40 Wtf? Lmfao!! Bro trying to get candid upskirt pics with a big cumbersome bright af flash bulb camera. Can't even creep on his targets discretely with that thing.
This video got replay value written all over it forsure
