1:25 I love how she just casually throws a double back at the end of 1.5 tumbling passes on a gym floor without springs 🤯 Edit: it was a spring floor! Still much different than todays floors though and still impressive (Thanks, Mike)
That was Natalia Lashenova from the U.S.S.R. Soviet Union at the 1989 world championships. There actually were springs under the floor. The first springs under the floor excerise were introduced in 1978, however, the springs at first were very small at only 2 inches and as the years progressed, so did the springs. They went from 2 inches to 4, then to 6 and Today's springs are 8 inches minimum. The springs in 1989 were around 4 inches. So for Lashenova to be able to do the pass with springs that have half the rebound ability compared to today's springs 😯, she definitely had power 💯💯💯💯💯💯👍
If you liked it and want to see more of that type of tumbling, a suggestion is to watch Lilia Pokopayeva's 1996 Olpymics optionals (not compulsories) floor routine which has the double front with a half turn added during the second flip
Most won't agree with me, but I feel that the punch-front is a way to cover-up a sloppy landing. Most look out of control. I love any with whip-backs, they look so amazing. I really like Atler's stag leap pass. That and the Raisman are classics. Ponor's was magnificent. Shannon Miller had a few great ones in there. As did a Chinese gymnast who moved faster than my eyes could focus - couldn't see her face but there was a gigantic Chinese flag on the wall.
out of this world acrobatics ... just amazing ... but they almost don't do anything in rythm witth the music ... nowadays routins are laking in grace, dance ... they are just a cocktail of superhero jumps and flips ...
This business of getting to the corner, quickly touching down, and then flipping back the way they came I haven’t seen recently. I wonder why they stopped doing that
Complimenti!!! Sabrina 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Disagree - Shang is either short on the twist, or the twist is fine and she punches low and really forward instead of going up. I think Postell's was better.
Agreed, I don’t like that combo at all. The punch front just seems so out of place after the smooth and lofty triple twist, and as you said, that punch front is almost always sloppy and rarely stuck. It’s honestly an eyesore to me
The Raisman tumbling pass changed the whole game
Vanessa Atler’s double back layout, punch front, ring jump was creative.
Alter’s stag jump will forever be an absolute thing of beauty 💜
She’s my all time favorite gymnast! 🤩
Perfection😍
That tumbling run of hers is my all time favorite.
So true ❤💖❤
I loved the back to back tumbling of the 90ies. I missed Daniela Silivas!
Sae Miyakawa's front full to double front and Ellie Black's 2½ to triple twist are my favourites by far. So original...
I miss having smaller acro elements immediately after the big ones. It feels like routines these days just come to a stop at the corners.
Sae and Mustafina back-to-back, what a treat!

@@mmoran3 this is why I love the internet. Such good information. Thank you for sharing, I didn’t know!
Does anyone know that gymnast name that was f****** amazing
Natalia Lashenova From the Soviet Union at the 1989 World gymnastics championships.
What an excellent compilation!! Loved all of these!🤩🤩🤩
I've watched a Lot of gymnastics but cannot recall ever seeing a double front somersault.. Just wow
If you liked it and want to see more of that type of tumbling, a suggestion is to watch Lilia Pokopayeva's 1996 Olpymics optionals (not compulsories) floor routine which has the double front with a half turn added during the second flip
I love that triple into another triple on a single pass
The Raisman
SO ICONIC
Mustafina and Raisman .... Jade Carey's 2nd pass from Tokyo should be here

it is true about the punch front, but also it is challenging, or otherwise everyone would do it.
the chinese gymnast is ou yushan
That front flip twist and back flip twist at one second was just awsome
Where is the Kim Zmeskal three whip backs or the Dominique Dawes double pass? Great video though!
Awww man, where’s Dominique Dawes with her tumbling pass that went fully from one corner and back again?
Ponor the best!
I don't know what it is, but I love the look of whip backs.
out of this world acrobatics ... just amazing ... but they almost don't do anything in rythm witth the music ... nowadays routins are laking in grace, dance ... they are just a cocktail of superhero jumps and flips ...
Thats INCREDIBLE!!!!
omg the first girl has the same floor music as me. i’ve never heard anyone else with it!
Ponor!
Cătălina Ponor❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Definitely the Romanians for making it look effortless - Catalina Ponor and Lavinia Milosovici
Mustafina, Ponor and Izbașa
This business of getting to the corner, quickly touching down, and then flipping back the way they came I haven’t seen recently. I wonder why they stopped doing that
Ponor’s connection is barely a “connection” lol
Agree
Yes Aly Raismans first pass
you forgot GUTSU PUNCH FRONT by CHSYSOVITINA 2002
Simone is the best
Aly Raisman is my favorite.
Aly Raisman!!
I wish Simone could have perfected the control to complete the Biles to punch front layout, and stay in bounds much more often.
Daniela Silivas is the best floor tumbler of all times. Watch her on the floor. You missed exactly the best one.
I can’t even walk in a straight line…..

Sabrina 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼
Elena Shushinova should have been in here.
Aly is the best !
Dominique Dawes always had an impressive pass, but I don’t see that it made the reel 😒
Who did the three whips to a triple twist in Atlanta 1996? I don't recognize her
Nikolett Krausz of Hungary
Only one Simone Biles execution 😪🤔
You just need to show Romanians doing it...they were the best ❤️
Dawes.
💚💜💚💜
A whip into double Arabian???
dos santos l e ll ???????🤔🤔🤔🤔
I prefer less acrobatic and more artistic. That's not elegant and too violent for the body.
Wow
Unpopular opinion maybe but I am not a fan of the triple twist punch front combo from the majority of gymnasts because they seem really sloppily done.
The best one was Shang Chungsong’s
Disagree - Shang is either short on the twist, or the twist is fine and she punches low and really forward instead of going up. I think Postell's was better.
I wish Maroney would have done that pass.

This is missing Dominique Dawes
Ponor the best!
