If you like gymnastics, you gotta love a good connection. I personally LOVE anything that comes from a whip or two, absolutely love the form and speed.
@@ccaruso0404 I miss the Zmeskal too. But I'd like to see someone attempt 2 whips to an immediate double tuck. I also think that if gymnasts connect three rebounding saltos like that, Laurie Hernandez's fwd layout 2/1 + fwd layout 1/1 + punch font tuck or Zhang Jin's whip + triple full + punch tuck etc., they should receive a 0.1 SB.
Whoever decided to allow a leap at the end of a tumbling pass and then award connection for it is insane.. It's just a cheated way of making sure you don't get deducted for not sticking. Plus most people don't even punch into it they just pause and then jump. Simone is one of few who actually punch into it.
I have thought the same myself. But think about it like this: under or over rotating is usually the reason someone wouldn't stick a landing. Which would make it even harder to execute the leap afterwards. There's also the risk of them leaping out of bounds, which I've seen girls do many times. I think the leap adds more room for error than a stuck landing, which is why it earns more points.
I agree with you partially, I’ve seen some girls like Simone, Aly, Jordan and more punch out of it, there also some people who pause for 1-2 seconds before doing the leap and I honestly think it’s unfair.
@@Katherine77129 some do it pretty well but yeah there are a lot of obvious jumps that really aren't connected. I guess we can blame the COP for making it so hard for gymnasts to bump their D score
i love adding front flips or front fulls in front of a backwards tumbling pass. it’s an easy way to add extra points as well as go into it more smoothly.
when there is a twist-step out or front tuck step out followed by anything else it moves me to the core. The whip-whip and half twist to double front pike is a fave too. Also love the stag jump endings. I'm a crying jelly mess every time, I have to watch on my own or I embarrass myself 🤸♀️🤸♀️🤸♀️💖💖💖👏👏👏👍 (I'm gonna watch again right now)
Personally I think they should remove CV from connecting leaps, I know it's not a piece of cake and you have to be controlled to be able to leap out of a tumbling pass but it's not as hard as connecting another acro element. Leaps should be just to cover landing deductions, not to gain CV imo
I wish I couldve grown up doing gymnastics, we were too poor to put us through any kind of sports. I definitely want my future kids to be able to do something they love in sports
Really good video. Wished you could have put the names in too because it’s hard to tell who they are from some of the passes; but loved the slo-mo after the real-time, that made it easier. It’d be good to see some men in there too. Some of they’re tumbling passes are amazing when they stick.
The men are judged from a different Code of Points, so the difficulty values of the skills (and the connection bonuses) are not the same. But I agree that it's amazing to watch!
@@captainbryce1 I'm sorry to say this, but there's always one...So what if she's become the sport's highest profile gymnast? The OP's post is speaking specifically about *tumbling,* because acrobatics is Biles' greatest strength and the FX is her joint most successful event, so it *is* actually quite a surprise that she has never attempted a long connection-pass. Her 2019 programme is the closest she's come with the fwd 1/1 to double tuck 1/1 in her third pass, but that's it. Furthermore, from the time even 4-inch coils were introduced in 1985, long and even back-to-back passes became a signature of almost all the top tumblers in the sport; regardless of whether their floor-work was medal-worthy or not. We've seen Biles do big single passes throughout her career--the Biles I; the Silivas; the Chusovitina; the Moors; the Biles II. So it would actually be quite nice to see some variety from her, because who knows what skills she would use in a long connection pass.
@@MD-722 I think most people don't believe that Simone is a great forward tumbler though so whereas I think she can do just about anything on floor I don't think she likes forward tumbling or is as confident as she is tumbling backwards.
I still cannot believe that y’all got connection for those leaps at the end that were clearly NOT actually connected lol. It was just a way for female gymnasts to recover from an unfavorable landing, glad the code started deducting for it tbh. Besides that, awesome connections
In order of appearance Lauren Mitchell, Sui Lu, Jordyn Wieber, Aliya Mustafina, Viktoria Komova, Simone Biles, Rebecca Bross, Li Qi (I think), Naomi Visser, Wang Yan, Alexandra Raisman, Catalina Ponor
Was Lauren Mitchell's double arabian always so crooked, or was she just off in that example? Her stag jump was really pretty though. Also, all of those incomplete 3/1 into punch front made me cringe, lol. Another good example to add would be the 2.5 step out into 3/1 that Ellie Black did a few years back.
Another one that got a 0.3 was Ellie Black doing a 2.5 twist to triple twist, which is extra cool because it's a single connection and not multiple connections added together. (I don't know if that one is officially in the code, but you can petition for extra connection bonus if what you do is significantly above and beyond existing connections, so she did and they gave it to her.)
Off topic question: when or why did gymnasts stop ending their acro moves with one foot in front (sort of a ballet 4th position) to now when both feet land next to each other?
The scoring rules for gymnastics are revised every four years. I'm pretty sure it was the 2005-2008 Code of Points that made it a deduction to lunge out of tumbling passes, although it might've been the 2001-2004 CoP. Luckily (for both safety and aesthetic reasons), the 2021-2024 CoP has made it legal again.
@@marthaambarura3756 nah i doubt they will, it will be good though because sticking or trying to stick it's too hard on the body and leads to injuries. Lunges look good imo and funny it seems they stuck more landings back when the lunge was allowed
