Years before the Marvel Cinematic Universe started and the superhero craze really kicked into high gear, Fox struck gold with the X-Men franchise, introducing the film world to amazing mutant characters like Wolverine, Professor X, Rogue, Cyclops, Mystique, Magneto, Sabretooth, Rogue, Storm and many more. The movie was enough to kick off a whole series of movies spanning over two decades, but that doesn’t mean it’s not without its questionable decisions. What’s up with Xavier not using Cerebro or his powers to their full potential? Why is Magneto so selfish with his anti-telepathy helmets? Why is Storm so bad at cracking jokes? To answer all these questions and more, step inside the pitch meeting that led to the year 2000’s X-Men movie! It’s super easy, barely an inconvenience.

@@hongxiuquan69 Very much so because he already makes that joke between 1:16 and 1:20 (indirectly saying "my wife won't let me touch her either (in the bedroom)"). Yet for some reason he spends the next 12 seconds immediately after saying everything he just implied aloud but without adding anything.

Yeah, multiple lines. Toad facts was supposed to be a running thing with Toad. That said, I still like the line. It fits the movie's Storm.
I thought I was the only person in the world that actually liked that line.

Just rewatched this movie and about Magnetos metal balls: I thought of them as some kind of mental exercise he is doing. Like training not to get distracted easily or doing multiple things at the same time. It actually made sense to me in comparison to many other scenes :D

I was the only one in the theater that laughed at: "Oh yes, a bolt of lightning in a giant copper conductor. I thought you lived in a school..."
Oxidized copper isn't a conductor, so it wouldn't be more insane than any other building.

I love HISHE but much of their humor needs you to have watched the referenced scene. Because Pitch Meeting's premise is that the writer has to explain all the setup (since the movie doesn't exist yet) it works well even if you've never seen the movie.

That depends on the mutant, I think.
2:48 I think that's easy to explain. The helmet is made of metal so Magneto uses his powers to affix it to his head so not even Sabretooth's strength could pull it off.

@@zman837 Does Magneto have control of magnetism, or metal as a whole? Since he can control the adamantium in Wolverine, and he's kept in prisons with absolutely no metal at all in future films
@@RokuHanmar he essentially has almost complete control of the electromagnetic field. In the comics, he actually can control the field so well that if he wanted he could reverse the Earth's rotation.

It's a weird choice nontheless, but knowing that Hollywood usually don't mess with kids in their movies (specially if you want something romantic around them), I get why they did it.

It's not perfect but I still love X-Men 2000. The central Rogue/Logan relationship is touching, and the Magneto/Prof X relationship still feels fresh.

@@VisualxxKhaos if I recall correctly the Toad guy was supposed to boast about how much better he is than everyone else because of his powers, so Storm's line of "you're just like everyone" hits much better
(although all of this is just second hand, dunno if it's true or not)

No he couldn't Eric had guns on about 15-20 cops. Eric would have killed them if tried to remove his helmet. Which is why he had to let them go.

@@arthurfisher1857 The main complaint is that it's pretty random. i.e. "Do you know what happens to a dog when it's hit by a train? The same thing that happens to everything else." The original joke is that the toad "croaks" which has an actual punchline. Apparently the main reason was that Toad was supposed to have some one-liners where he says "Do you know what happens when a Toad..." which would have let this make a whole lot more sense.

I actually love the lighting toad line from storm, it's funny because of the delivery.... It subverts your expectations with the question and gives you an totally straightforward answer, it's like the chicken crossing the street joke.
The way he makes fun of it is hilarious, but it's not actually a bad line, considering it's towards the beginnings of the current comic book superhero genre boon.
I love that time of the video and the movie pitch is reflected through the age of the computer in the background. Good attention to detail!

To be fair, as we know who wrote that Storm joke, if you imagine it being delivered as a quip with the inflection of Buffy Summers, it works. That’s not remotely how it was delivered and it didn’t land at all… but you know… hypothetically

Lol for those who don't know, there's a bunch of scrapped scenes throughout the movie where Toad would state random facts about toads and be like..."Do you know what happens to a toad when ______?" lol and in the end Storm got annoyed and said that infamous line before striking him with lightning, and tbh it would've been WAY more badass if the other scenes weren't deleted lol.
