    I was just listening to a 1961 episode of _Gunsmoke,_ when I heard an ad for a limited film screening that was not to be missed. I decided to look for a trailer, and found it here.
    Thank you all for committing to this endeavor, and enabling us to participate in a true cinematic experience!

    Thank you for sharing this documentary! Just received the Blu-Ray in the mail yesterday, cannot wait to watch the film. It's great to finally see what I've only been able to read about in film history books

    My goodness! How beautiful! Louis was my grandfather and Louis III my uncle. I remember being scared to death seeing this on the triple screen in New York when I was quite young. Thank you for all the nice things you say about the movie. Sarah.

      Bless you Sarah! In Australia and have ordered the newly restored versions of both This is Cinerama and Windjammer from the U.S. The original releases were done hurriedly and showed the pitfalls. So excited these movies have been given the love and care due to them. Cheers, James.

    This was a real miracle :) The work that has been done has saved this film from oblivion and allowed future generations to enjoy Windjammer the way it was supposed to be seen :) Thank you !!

    This movie fostered my love of adventure all my life.... It was a life shaping experience, together with the adventure classic “Two Years Before the Mast”. Thank you for an incredible job fixing it up. On a trip to Europe I was delighted to find the actual ship dry-docked in Ostend, Belgium in 1974. I do not know if it is still there but hope it is. These are the kind of things that I hope are carried forward to future generations. Real quality.

      one of these young men was my grandad. He became a diplomat living in London, married to an american author who had 4 children and 6 grandkids including me. When he died, I lived in his room for a couple of years and I remember lots of paintings of ships - it was this! What an adventure he had.

    I have read about this film for 50 years ... I remember seeing a 4:3 print on TV in the 1960s or 70s. I just keep thinking how stunning this must look on a HUGE Cinemiracle screen ... so much work to get it back to pristine condition .. thanks to the whole team....so the BluRay has been ordered...

    Well done for the sublime 2017 restoration. It is of course far superior to the original Bluray issue. This film - as for all the Cinerama restorations - would have been lost forever for public viewing were it not for the dedicated folks who undertook this, often near impossible, task. The extras on the Cinerama/Cinemiracle Blurays are worth the cost of the disc themselves. Windjammer is one of my favourites of the 3 panel restorations. The passage of the Pamir past the Christian Radich is chilling knowing that a short time later this historic Windjammer would be lost with all hands, except six survivors, in a hurricane in the area.

    Fantastic work. The icing on the cake would have been to have the writing at 14:46 stretched a little and following the curvature of the smile box effect, instead of being straight.

    Beautiful piece of work. Vegas is a bit underestimated in the film & videoworld I guess. But that's just a small remark.

    This is the first digital restoration of "Windjammer" that I can watch. Great job everyone. The sound is also well presented. For me the Smilebox worked well to approximate what Cinemiracle looked like. (I saw the original at New York's Roxy Theatre.) I liked having the effect of screens opening at the beginning, closing at intermission and opening again in Act 2. The firetruck sequence really shows why a lot would be lost by using a flat-screen (non-Smilebox) format. You can feel the trucks racing down the narrow corridors of the NYC streets. Same with the basket sled sequence. I don't think flat-screen would present it as well. Now, how about 4K?

    I thought the 2012 version was good but this looks great. Wouldn't it be great to see it on a large curved screen with a live orchestra. Maybe someone can get a grant to do just that the music is a big part of what makes this movie special.

    An amazing job. What has been achieved is astonishing and saves a deteriorating film for a new generation. Now, where, in the U.K. can I see it. Don't suggest Bradford as I wasn't too impressed with their set up.

    • @narabdela
      @narabdela 4 года назад +1

      Bradford is the only place David, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with their setup. I've seen this restoration there, and it is absolutely stunning!

    • @davidgroves9626
      @davidgroves9626 4 года назад

      narabdela My point was not that the technical side of Bradford was in any way inferior but that it's size (considering it's Cinerama) left me decidedly underwhelmed.

    Mediocre orchestration here. Rush sounding. I have the studio recording on RCA mon arranged and conducted by Morton Gould himself. It is WONDROUS.
