I was a kid when I saw the first Cinerama movie In Philadelphia. When the curtain opened and Lowell started to speak, I was frantically trying to figure out why they needed that huge screen. Then he said the magic words, "This is Cinerama" and my whole movie changed. I help I never forget that moment...it was so exciting for this little kid from the stick. Fantastic.
MW TOO .. WHEN I WAS A KID IN EARLY 1960s I SAW "HOW THE WEST WAS WON " IN THE CINERAMA PICTURE AND I LOVE IT EVER SINCE AND I ALSO SAW THE BROTHERS GRIMM TOO AND I WAS HOOKED AND I WOULD LOVED TO SEE THE HOW THE WEST WAS WON IN THAT WAY AGAIN NOW IN 2020...
Motion picture fans and historians will forever be indebted to all those involved in rescuing these priceless cinematic gems. Next on wish list: A Blu-Ray release of latest version scan of 'This Is Cinerama' to replace that extremely disappointing prior release (reminiscent of a 16mm blowup). The stereo audio fell slightly short of expectation as well.
Since my adverse criticisms four-years ago regarding the Blu-Ray release of 'This Is Cinerama' a completely new perfected version has been released. This time the same painstaking restoration procedure as used for 'Best Of Cinerama' was accorded. The result is truly magnificent.
I was lucky enough to see How the West Was Won in true Cinerama in a revival theatre in Dayton, Ohio. So sad that process went away, it was truly spectacular.
Just crazy how people had vision back then to shoot with such cameras and even amazing work by the restoration team. The world of cinema owes you a lot. 🙏
Wonderful work! I wish I had your expertise. It's fabulous to see our film history being restored and preserved! This should be a government sponsored profession! In my eyes, you're a god! Can 2001 in Smilebox with a restored soundtrack and accurate color palate be far behind?
Remember when Cinerama Inc. re-issued THIS IS CINERAMA and it was shown on FLAT SCREENS? I'm still curious about that. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??(Ever feel embarrassed for a theatre manager?).
I have yet not seen cinerama at a theatre yet but as I live in the uk 🇬🇧 we are lucky as we have one and I must go and see l like the t shirt that someone was wearing with their back to us l would like one 😊
Sensational! Dave you and your team have worked miracles with these titles. Have preordered Best of and Russian Adventure . One. Question - any chance the remastered This Is Cinerama will find its way to bluray?
I want to state that the restored version of the church chorus ,fromThis is Cinerama , was never considered by Merian C. Cooper to be a part of the compile. It's not part of the feature.M.r Strhomier was just Demonstrating the Restoration of that sequence ,since the whole movie was re restored, but too expensive to up grade to the older one on Blu- Ray .
Superlative kudos on this fabulous presentation and explanation of the technical labor involved in these projects! !! I , very much, appreciate this because I worked at TECHNICOLOR in the 60’s and still do some professional POST PRODUCTION in Las Vegas now. Thank you VERY much❗️
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS AMAZING CONCEPT ?????? SEEN IT IN U.K 1970'S THE FILM " THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD " DIRECTED BY GEORGE STEVENS . FROM U.K. (2021).
I have my copy on order (and paid for!!) for the November release along with RUSSIAN ADVENTURE. I really wish though that THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF THE BROS GRIMM could be done.... any news anyone???
@@paulwarner5395 Well, that was four years ago....yep, know it's being done and will most likely come through Warner Archive like HOW THE WEST WAS WON....
But there is! I have had it for about 5 years. Looks terrific as I view it on a 8ft wide movie screen via a Benq video projector with a 50,000 to 1 contrast. Absolute cinema quality.

I had the exact same experience at the Zigfied Theater in New York City, in the early 70s.
Outstanding... they should show this at IMAX theaters to get the true widescreen effect. I'd pay for it!
With all the other accolades all I can add is my thanks.

Incredible historical recréation ever! Thanks so much, merci beaucoup in stereophonic soundtrack! Emmanuel from Paris France
It's very heartening to see the cleaned-up, fixed-up images that are now possible.
Incredible démonstration! BRAVO from PARIS FRANCE

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm 1962.
I found the original program 'This is Cinerama' from 1952 in my parents attic !
Fabulous! Can't wait to get my copy in November!!!
Amazing restoration work.
I feel so lucky to have seen This is Cinerama and How the West Was Won at the Seattle Cinerama before it closed.
It was a thrilling experience when I watched first time in Cinerama. In Madras city at pilot theatre
Woohoo! Added to my "wishlist" :)

@@rob4everbg thank you
oh oh this means an undergrad of the this is Cinerama on DVD and Blu ray! more expensive to fans to up grade from the 65mm version
With the technology we have today, couldn't we make more Cinerama movies just for the halibut? 🙂

Just amazing. At what resolution were the OCN scanned?
Sensational! Dave you and your team have worked miracles with these titles. Have preordered Best of and Russian Adventure . One. Question - any chance the remastered This Is Cinerama will find its way to bluray?
Release this on PSVR it would be a great way for a lot of people to see it
10 years later, we can now use AI to increase the resolution. 10 years from now, AI can be used to make everything 3D.
Can you talk more about how you located the funding?
Great
so thats mean that there 9 strips overall? three RGB Technicolor strips for each camera?
No - 3-strips in camera. One for each panel A B and C
@@in70mm thank you, I thought that 1-strip color film was invented in 1960s

Where can I get a copy of The Best of Cinerama?

at amazon
Hiya, your commentary says the neg was scanned at 2k? why such a low resolution, why not 4k or higher?
Keep in mind that's a 2k scan of each of the three panels. There are three panels per frame.
Boy this movie was suppose to be released on the 22 ,Miracle ! I just got it.
I thought the one-strip version of THIS IS CINERAMA was misaligned. Or was that just the prints but not the negative?
