I call BS on why the FDA doesn't approve devices. It is not because they are more strict for approval. It is because this therapy would take business away from pharmaceuticals and the FDA is controlled by the Pharma Industry.

As a dual-credentialed clinical health care professional (35+yrs) I know you're absolutely right. When things don't make sense, follow the money.
I know they were trying to be diplomatic in their conversation. But it's well known that the FDA is a heavily political organization influenced by money etc.
There are too many examples that show very clearly that their interest is not the consumer any longer. The fact that they allow the type and number of artificial ingredients in our food is a perfect example. And it's a fact that MANY people die from prescription medication that was prescribed correctly.
Big Pharma with the help of the FDA is ruining our health! I don't think it makes sense to wait for top-down changes. I think the changes that are most likely to happen in a timely manner have to do with consumers becoming very knowledgeable and using their knowledge and common sense.

The discussion makes it really sound like TDCS works and there's a lot of potential for at least depression/anxiety cure.

I've been following him for a long time on Twitter, he's very dedicated. I have been working for the past 2 years with the otDCs and have helped me a lot with scripts that Marom shares as an open source of knowledge. I would like to thank to him for his shared experience. I wish you a pleasant day :)~

How about the Fisher Wallace Device? That’s FDA cleared? Please reply.

@Travis Maise Thank you for your reply. They keep asking if I want to invest in it. They claim Elon Musk is investing in it. I have used it but not for long enough to notice - it broke - My cousin uses it and claims it helps her. I think the tDCS is more legit given that there is more information out there on it and that it uses more electricity
      Today they emailed me this.

This was a really interesting and really helpful interview.
I’ve struggled with depression for many years, with a couple of major depressive episodes in the past and, unfortunately, another one right now. I’ve just started using tDCS-I bought a unit on-line. My preference would have been to work with a knowledgeable clinician, at least initially. In addition to being confident that it is a medical-grade machine---I’ve gone on-line to look at the right montage to use for depression, but it would have been great to work with someone with expertise to be sure the electrodes are actually placed correctly.
But I’m not sure if finding a clinician who administers tDCS in her/his practice even an option? I can certainly find clinicians who will prescribe meds, those who administer rTMS and ECT. But are there even clinicians who administer tDCS are part of their practice?

@Jimmy Neggatron I educated myself to the point of feeling comfortable enough to use it. It’s made a big difference for me. I could feel a difference very quickly (as I told people, maybe it’s a placebo effect, but I’ll take it). I also started on an antidepressant, which took a few weeks to “ramp up,” so tDCS was really helpful during that time. I was using it daily-now it’s more like 3 times a week. For me, the combination of antidepressant meds and tDCS has helped a lot. I know other people may have different experiences-but, for me, I’m very pleased with it.

In our skulls after the skin layer we have a fat layer, then the skull bone amd then CFS (mostly water and highly conductive) and then we have the brain tissue. How a low current can pass these layers and reach the brain? And if a small portion of the current passes through all the layers and gets to the CFS, why it should pass through the brain tissue when CFS resistance is so low? The current always chooses the low resistance path over the high resistance ones. The amount of the current that passes through the brain tissue must be extremely low (and it is!). There is a good reason that unlike any other brain stimulation methods, this one is avlable without prescription! FYI tDCs's circuit is practically almost just a battery (with a controlled level of current output). When we have much better and stronger devices proven to work and force neurons to action potential level, I think if someone needs the brain stimulation, it is more reasonable to use something that actually works!

Thanks for your insightful comments. A study by Opitz et al out of Minnesota studied this in monkeys. They implanted depth electrodes that extended deep into the brain of these monkeys (left prefrontal cortex and hippocampus), then patched bone back onto the burr holes made to place the depth electrodes. They then applied tDCS on the scalps of the monkeys and measured the current within the cortex through the depth electrodes. An electrical field was detected within the cortex, with the electric field strongest in the superficial brain regions. The extended field reached half of the entire hemisphere, with an inverse correlation between frequency of stimulation with magnitude of electric field detected.
This was reproduced in neurosurgical patients with refractory epilepsy who were implanted with depth electrodes. After burr holes were re-cemented onto the skull, tDCS was applied to the patients’ scalps and tACS at a frequency of 1Hz was applied to the scalp with an intensity of 1mA for 2 minutes. The same thing was seen that was seen in the monkeys. The electric field was strongest in the superficial brain regions, with an extended field of 0.4mV/mm per 1mA of stimulation. This was also found in another study, Huang et al. Elife 2017.
      Hope this helps!
