  • Lecture by Marom Bikson on the mechanisms of transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in driving brain plasticity and recovery. Delivered at the American Association for the Advancement of Science 2022 meeting #AAASmtg . Session and Q&A moderated by Dr. Roy Hamilton (U Penn).

The talk includes a brief and clear introduction to how tDCS works in "4 points"
    1) tDCS delivers weak direct current to the brain.
    2. Current through the cortex can be Anodal or Cathodal.
    3. tDCS is combined with a task / training.
    4. Direct Current Stimulation boosts ongoing plasticity.
The talk then introduces Neurovascular-Modulation in "4 points"
    1) Neurovascular coupling (NVC) is always 2-way interaction.
    2) Neuromodulation (tDCS) may reverse the order or NVC.
    3) Animal studies show direct Blood Brain Barrier (BBB) stimulation. 4) Neurovascular Modulation has compelling clinical implications.
