Bluto was actually pretty impressive in his own right.
Often in the beginning of _popeye_ cartoons, he’s already achieved some impressive position, such as owning a diner, ruling the 40 thieves, or being the current defending champion of a boxing ring.
Popeye shows up and schools him with the benefits of eating spinach, but like a true chad never goes for the kill like Bluto does.

To be fair the cartoons from the 40s and 50s weren't really made for kids and had more of an adult audience in mind. Children just so happened to see them when families would go out to the movie theaters and would go on to show them to their children when they started airing on television.
Meanwhile modern cartoons are made with children directly in mind and as such tend to be more squeamish when it comes to violence.

Always felt like, while droopy didn’t show emotion, there was still something wrong. He wears his pain, while pushing through. Which while cool, still feels like something is missing. Dr. Livesey, no sadness or a need to hide behind the smile. He is what Droopy strives to be, content in his own skin and the world around him. @HonkaiHistory 2 года назад +18

Even digitally drawn art could look better, like anime still does some amazing fluid and creative stuff if in the right hands because it is still drawn frame by frame. They just switched from pencil and paper to a tablet.
Meanwhile alot of western animated modern shows have flash-like animation, where the characters are often static with only few body parts moving and alot of recycled animation. I've also seen them animating in-software instead, like using rotation angles or flipping assets to generate movement instead of actually drawing for example a hand going up frame by frame.
And lastly 2D drawn animation has become more rare, alot of it get complemented by 3D assets nowadays or just straight up fully made in 3D instead. I've seen fully 3D animated shows, that were made to look like 2D animation. While it can look convincing at stills, the plastic movement of cellshaded frame-limited 3D will always give it away.

Basically back then they had more time. So they could focus on telling a story through all the details and not only on the action. In the they also dedicated more tome to quality because back then it is what meant most success. But it changed with time and with newer technology, many things can be achieved much faster so they can count more on quantity too. There is nothing bad with 3d animated movies. Most of them look actually pretty cool and are well made. But once they turn them into series they don't look nearly as good as their original movie.
Back then Popeye and felix the cat and all these cartoons were series. They had to earn the right for doing feature length movies. Now it is basically the other way around.
Of course there are many more factors to be considered. Check out corridor crew they have an episode about old cartoon animations and what makes them so special. It is the psychological aspect of the details that tell the story. If you stripped them pf these details like haire and certain expressions they'd seem good but generic. Hence why some animes are very successful like Dragon Ball back im the day. It wasn't just the violence. The violence was inhanced through the detail realism put into it.

Many giga chads were born in the old days some peaceful, others war and from different countries
But the most recognized would be Popeye, droopy (Bluto) and now from Russia dr Livesey

      of course Bluto is one.
Just cause he rivals Popeye he should not be denied his greatness for being strong enough to survive Popeye, and knowingly challenge him any day.
His skill is comemorable already, his defeats arent making him less giga

Fucking right. An alpha male with arms bigger than a whole body who became Superman by eating spinach, how you can do a show more based than this ? The only thing it misses is that Popeye has a wife and childrens and is a really good masculine father, but it's a show for childrens after all so there is not to much sense to do this

@Maulen Florez IIRC - Olive Oyl gets sick of Popeye and Bluto's shenanigans so she demands they all spend a day at the beach without fighting. Popeye gets around this by feeding Bluto his spinach and intentionally getting beaten up by him - all so Olive Oyl would get mad at Bluto and spend the day with only Popeye. Was that the one?
