    This song is about the Los Angeles groupie scene back in the 70's... Actually it was the groupie scene everywhere back then.

    Here's a quote by Robert from an interview about this song: In an interview with Rolling Stone (March 13, 1975) the interviewer, Cameron Crowe, commented that Robert Plant seemed to be depressed about the thought of growing up. Plant responded: "Well, I am. I haven't lost my innocence particularly. I'm always ready to pretend I haven't. Yeah, it is a shame in a way. And it's a shame to see these young chicks bungle their lives away in a flurry and rush to compete with what was in the old days the goodtime relationships we had with the GTOs and people like that. When it came to looning, they could give us as much of a looning as we could give them. It's a shame, really. If you listen to 'Sick Again,' a track from Physical Graffiti, the words show I feel a bit sorry for them. 'Clutching pages from your teenage dream in the lobby of the Hotel Paradise/Through the circus of the L.A. queen how fast you learn the downhill slide.' One minute she's 12 and the next minute she's 13 and over the top. Such a shame. They haven't got the style that they had in the old days... way back in '68." The GTOs stood for "Girls Together Outrageously" and were the first groupies Zep met when they came to California before the scene started to change and the groupies (called "baby groupies") started getting younger and younger. FYI - there were several places where these song lyrics were incorrect.

    "Said ya dug since you were 13..." (bc she was a fan, that doesn't mean that anything was going on). She finally made it out to a Led Zeppelin concert. She's older now.
    He's bragging a bit, he's telling her that "I'm the one you want, I'm the one you need..." (he's telling her exactly what she's feeling and thinking, but it doesn't mean she's gonna get a piece of him).
    There's a lot of teasing going on in the lyrics - it doesn't mean he's acting on it.
    There's lots of young girls who "love" rock stars, etc - it doesn't mean the girls are gonna get what they "love" or desire or are obsessed with.
    "Cluthing pages from your teenage dreams..." They're rock stars - their pics are all through the rock magazines, etc... the girls would bring their rock magazines, which featured Led Zeppelin in em - if the girls get close enough to the band - within sight of them -- they can prove how much they're huge fans, etc... they can ask them to sign their rock magazines
    You should re-listen to the song after reading this. He mentions -- you're 16 or close to 16 now -- her parents let her go out with her friends now and to concerts.
    Now, these young girls are showing up in the lobbies of hotels - looking for rock stars - to catch a glimpse of them, or try to attract them... it doesn't mean the girls are gonna get anywhere.
    "Said ya dug me, since you were 13..." She can be a fan of any band since any age --- she clearly wasn't allowed to go to concerts then - parents wouldn't let her. Now, she's in the lobby of a hotel yelling "I've dug you, since I was 13 !" He's giggling at her.

    About the lyrics, I doubt they'd get away with them today. There's a line in the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail that says "We're eight score blondes and brunettes, all between 16 and 19 and a half" and it's very clear what they all want to do with Sir Galahad.

    your pov about the lyrics were/are spot on, imo... as great as they were as a band, both individually, and in particular, together, they made Roman Polanski look like an amateur (I hate to say). I think all of them were womanizers to some degree or another. in the context of post WWII England, where they continued on war rations till almost 1960 (yes, they were that bankrupt as a nation fighting the war, even though they won!), the cultural/psychedelic/ sexual revolution of the mid to late '60s was enormous... but to be clear, a young adult man sleeping with a 14 yr old groupie is & should always have been beyond any acceptance for whatever reason.
    your reaction was really appropriate & I think how you present & how you come through made me want to subscribe... keep on keeping on, my man!

    I think Robert's lyrics were a veiled dig at Jimmy Page, who dated an underage Lori Mattix at the time. It was Robert's dig at the entire groupie scene.

    • @mackmitchell94
      @mackmitchell94 Год назад

      Jimmy never really dated her though, in fact there is evidence that Lori was somewhat of an embellisher when it came to her stories. She says she lost her virginity at the age 14 to David Bowie in Los Angeles, but David Bowie was never in Los Angeles during that year she was 14. Lori was around the zeppelin boys in 1973 during their American tour which is notorious being the tour that none of them remember clearly at all. Page says he just remembers the beginning of the tour, breaking the Beatles record in Tampa, and then after that it’s just one huge blur. Lori didn’t come into contact with Jimmy until the band reached Los Angeles. Jimmy doesn’t remember that part of the tour really. According to Maddox herself, Jimmy never slept with her and once he found out how young she was, didn’t pursue her romantically .

    • @tektoniks_architects
      @tektoniks_architects Год назад +3

      Sorry to disagree with you, but Jimmy's relationship with Lori is well documented and completely factual.

    • @mackmitchell94
      @mackmitchell94 Год назад +1

      @@tektoniks_architects no it’s not, we don’t know the details of what was really going on there, we don’t know what the “relationship” really was, it’s just an assumption . If by Loris own words they never had sex and Jimmy apparently never even kissed her, can we really call that a romantic relationship ?

Seems you've abandoned Led Zeppelin and then played that guy's video of what Led Zeppelin "stole" --- tons of other bands did the same thing. That guy also pretty much said being inspired by someone's drum movements or work -- is stealing. It's not.
