Elderly people occasionally try to use their age to con people out of their money... classic case! The contractor honoured every part of his obligation... its too bad that a good contractor had to go through this to get his money.
If this started on Sept 29th and he got back with a custom countertop in the 3rd week of November, that's not long. I've ordered custom counters, and they can take anywhere from 6 to 10 weeks, depending on materials.
I was thinking that too. Even laminate can take a few weeks if it's a custom order. It almost seemed like JM was about to rule unfairly against the contractor for a moment there - He earned his judgment.
Shared the same thought! It only took about 6-7 weeks, which made sense to me for something custom made. She was just annoyed at not having a sink for that long, which is what happens during a renovation. LOL. Plaintiff was fair and firm!
That's what super annoyed me about Milan. She always says she's super knowledgeable about residential construction because it was her dad's career. Yet she's giving the Plaintiff a hard time even after he said very clear the counter had to be special ordered?! I think she tried to take it back when she saw that the order was basically placed the beginning of October. She should have apologized
@JR-gn9ei JM should have asked him when he ordered the countertop. As I said, she claims to be knowledgeable in the contractor/construction business, so she knows that a lot of customers' expectations aren't conducive to the availability of supplies & resources. The fact that she tried to berate the Plaintiff about the length of time for a special ordered product to be ready was completely ridiculous.
JM likes to shout about being the daughter of a contractor, but failed to realise that custom orders can take weeks to be delivered..... selective rage because this was an old lady.
y’all cannot blame him for explaining his case he isn’t interrupting the judge he’s informing her . I don’t care how threatened she felt she shouldn’t have wrote a bad check which is why she is here .
Yeah it seemed like it took a little too long for the lightbulb in her head to turn on and realize the contractors lawsuit was justified and reasonable - Those witty little comments she made about the countertop to the plaintiff don't seem too logical or funny once common sense clicked in her head.
The plantif didn't want anything more than what he was owed. Looks like the defendants accepted they were in the wrong at the end. Had a good laugh over it
Judge Milian always saying her family is contractors but a contractor knows that a custom made anything will take time. sept 29 - November is 6-8 weeks VERY STANDARD and not unreasonable.
The woman was well aware of her actions, and she's fortunate he didn't pursue a criminal case against her. Despite completing the flooring work, the man never received payment for his actual labor; only the money for the ordered countertop. It appears she hoped to get away with not compensating him for the additional work. Even though the countertop installation took longer than anticipated, she should have realized she was still obligated to pay for the other services rendered. Since the countertop was custom-ordered, there's no option to return it for a refund, leaving her responsible for its cost. The man had been generous, charging only $550 for the countertop. However, he made an error by commencing additional work without securing some form of payment. It would have been prudent to ensure she paid for materials and half the labor cost upfront before starting any further tasks.
Sometimes this judge irks me. I can't put my finger on it, but I have noticed with certain people she likes to talk to them like they are dumb. She knew what she was doing that's why she didn't tell her husband until after. And almost got him beat up😂😂😂😂.
Yeah she asks a question in a really arrogant tone and then before they can honestly answer she interrupts them it’s like she’s mad because she has to rule in their favor .. I know exactly what you mean
So she had enough sass to cuss at him but she was scared so she gave him a check. Yeah she had no intentions of paying him. Good judgement. He didn't even try to get over on her. He just wanted what he was owed.
The Plaintiff kept changing her mind how long it took to get a hold of him. The Defendant was NO better with remembering exact dates. I don't believe either of them in this case.
Yup, altough JM might have reduced the amount he was owed by maybe 100 bucks. I sensed she felt that he slightly overcharged for the floor installation. He must have had receipts he presented as his evidence that weren't shown.
During Covid, the supply chain was horrible. My husband and I purchased a bar for our home and it took 4 months to arrive. Something like custom made countertop absolutely could take a few months pending production, materials, shipping, etc.
For the defendant to have found another contractor to install another counter top means she must have contacted the new one weeks before he was able to do the work, because no contractor can come out to do a job at the drop of a hat, so that means that while the plaintiff was doing her floor in October, she was already contacting other contractors. She's a nasty person...
What part of he was being paid for the floor is the judge not understanding. All of that extra wasn’t even necessary because he was being paid for the floor which is the 550.
@@inspyr9 Yeah I was gonna try any spell out the way the plaintiff said the word but figured no one would have gonna the joke but I see I am not the only one who thought the same thing.😅🤣😂

They may have changed their mind “this custom stuff is taking too long forget it let’s get something fast.” Wish JM asked if they got the same style counter top or a different one.
If they are old they have to be innocent, why else would you smile at the old woman and say that's illegal, you can't do that😁......that's the the judge!
Her response to the counter top was stupid. He didn’t mean switching it like a table cloth. He meant in 10 years they can use it then. Or if the new one chips. It’s not something he can just take back if it’s special order. And they paid for it so he gave it to them. If it’s so easy to deal with they can sell it. 🤷♂️
Yeah, she pissed me off with that snotty, backhanded comment. Also, because he had already explained that $400 was the price of the countertop off top.
Giving a check then doing a stop payment is wrong, now i think she did it because he would not go and he intimidated her. I would not go that long without a sink and i would of never pay for work he didn't completed.
What puzzles me is how do these people make any money charging such cheap prices? I never took on a job if I couldn't make at least $500.00 a day for labor. I would also charge an additional 20% markup on the materials if I had to buy those..
How does she get a custom made countertop for only $400, yet mine, which wasn't custom made and very common and in stock, was almost $900??? It's a laminate type counter. I don't get it!! She got off easy!!!
Love how the plaintiff presented his case. He was direct in his testimony. Milian scratching her head because this is one person of color of whom she can't take advantage of. The verdict was swift and just.
