February 10th 2015 Canada's Charles Hamelin won the gold medal in an incredible final of the men's 1500m Short Track Peed Skating event at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. One year on from the final we present full coverage as part of our #Sochi365 celebrations on the Olympic RUclips channel.

the australian was dead last until the leading guys all crashed and he just cruised to the finish.

I feel like this is a passive aggressive sport where you have to restrain everything within you from pushing some racer that’s getting too close

Its a lot more about self restraint, breaking away from the pack too early can and will be the difference of the race.

Not a white sport, the largest demographic in the sport is Asian.
Basically all racing events have a "no touching, or tackling" rule. I think it's bad not only because there's people who dislike the aesthetic of it but also because attacking someone actually makes you slower.
It never ceases to amaze me how hard these guys carve those corners....the physics are so cool behind this!
This was probably the best competitors you could have assembled for this race. Any one of them could have won. What an amazing race.

I don’t get how you can get in front without going on the outside and losing all your speed or position, and pushing through without knocking the guy in front
It's all in your track patterns and raw endurance

Endurance, Apex Momentum and "Fingers Down" Technique which provides stability, within their cornering and drafting which allows the skaters behind to slipstream the others and thats why they stay on each others asses while cornering and then finally winning with an overtake

I can Speed Skate up to 35 km/h
In Canada, at the age of 2, you have to be able to state the name of the lady on an old 2$ bill and skate 3 laps around the rink without falling or else we send you and your parents to the USA.

I am not shocked or amazed that Hamelin took this race! He's amazing! It is evident that Hamelin (both of them, and Canadian team in general) work like crazy to perfect their technique and that they have amazing natural talent.They are determined, powerful, spirited, apparently disciplined, athletes. I wish Canada continued success! The Hamelins make this sport super-duper exciting!! (And, they certainly don't hurt the eyes! ^.^) I also can't wait for 2018!

They should make this with a complete racetrack. Led strips below the ice, so they can basically switch the race track every minute or so. Curves n bends, interesting stuff. . No led indicating you gotta jump over the section. Sections so narrow you gotta oneskate em
