  • Portishead - Sour times
    From the 1997 concert in Roseland New York.
    Lyrics:
    To pretend no one can find
    The fallacies of morning rose
    Forbidden fruit, hidden eyes
    Curtises that I despise in me
    Take a ride, take a shot now
    Cos nobody loves me
    Its true
    Not like you do
    Covered by the blind belief
    That fantasies of sinful screens
    Bear the facts, assume the dye
    End the vows no need to lie, enjoy
    Take a ride, take a shot now
    Cos nobody loves me
    Its true
    Not like you do
    Who oo am I, what and why
    Cos all I have left is my memories of yesterday
    Ohh these sour times
    Cos nobody loves me
    Its true
    Not like you do
    After time the bitter taste
    Of innocence decent or race
    Scattered seeds, buried lives
    Mysteries of our disguise revolve
    Circumstance will decide ....
    Cos nobody loves me
    Its true
    Not like you do
    Cos nobody loves me
    Its true
    Not like you
    Nobody loves.. me
    Its true
    Not, like, you.. do

    The creators of trip-hop. Currently generations don't understand how much they owe this amazing band for their music trips.

    • @MrJTE90
      @MrJTE90 3 года назад +38

      I love Portishead, but the real creators of trip hop are Massive Attack, with the "Blue Lines" album in 1991.

    • @onemissourian

      @@MrJTE90 Both of those bands may have created trip-hop, but Digable Planets were doing their take on it years before those bands existed.

      @pistonburner6448 Год назад +4

      Not the creators of trip-hop. This music style has evolved over many, many decades. Very slowly. This band setup, their instruments, everything was very common and was the result of a natural progression.

    • @SUCHROXWELL
      @SUCHROXWELL Год назад +1

      @@onemissourian Digable Planets released their first record in 1992. Massive Attacks first release was 1988, and earlier if you include their previous incarnation as The Wild Bunch - a purely hip hop project starting in Bristol, UK in the mid-1980s.
      Digable Planets were great and really helped evolve the jazz inspired sound in hip hop, but Massive Attack were already pioneers in pushing the envelope with regards to sampling and layering which saw them transcend from hip hop to this new sound - later dubbed ‘trip hop’ by the music press. They used hip hop as the spine of their music but brought in elements of Dub, reggae and soul in a way no one had attempted before. Blue Lines (1991) is a benchmark in breakbeat constructed music and has influenced pretty much every hip hop producer I know.
