This album is soo different from their other albums. Saturate Me is a prog gem on this album. I believe this was Piotrs last album he recorded with the band before he passed 😔 RIP
This is Melissa, thank you so much for playing this. Tony was overjoyed. Love you guys!!! It's nice to watch another couple enjoying music so much together. Tony and I met before a Nine inch Nails concert 25 years ago. We bonded over the Cure and Sting and have been enjoying discovering music together ever since!
Aww I love this so much! Thank you for sharing your story and your music with us! We are thrilled to have you both along for our music discovery ride! Much love to you both! - Lex
Melissa, what a nice request! The mark of a great couple: sharing music. Really enjoy this album. I could consider a marathon of Riverside’s range. NnL, great reaction again. Thanks. I won’t pressure Lexita - she’ll probably pick her bass up when she’s ready. Also, I love that you’re adding songs to your playlist so you get to hear them again - one listen isn’t always sufficient. And we can’t survive on Steely Dan alone! Hahaha, even I mix it up. 🤪
And again - what an incredible gift! Their concerts are fantastic. I’ve never seen them 😔 but have watched videos and listened to friends’ accounts - quite an experience. ✨🤪
Michele Michele I agree. Some of my favorite songs by my favorite bands I didn't bond with the first listen. A lot of the more proggy songs I like that take you on a journey sound better and better the more you know and can anticipate the winding road on the journey.
@@tonys2899 Yes, Tony and Melissa, subsequent listens can do so much for a song. Really happy that NnL are thinking of us off the channel too ... by listening to songs again in their personal playlist. Cool. Like you both! 😽😉
What an album, my favorite by them. Caterpillar and the Barbed Wire, Found, Beyond the Blue Horizon, Saturate Me... 2015 was tough to choose my favorite album of the year. This album, Steven Wilson's Hand Cannot Erase and Anekdoten's Until All the Ghosts Are Gone.
If it wasn’t for folks like you who enjoy doing reactions, I would never have heard of this band. I consider myself a person who has a wide taste in music that transcends so many genres. So when I hear a song like this, I wonder why I never heard this before. Probably because most radio stations only play 3 minute ditties so full of fluff without any real meaning. If the song exceeds 5 minutes it doesn’t have a hope in hell of getting any air play. Thank you for this post. A new band for me to look up.
Thanks Melissa! Another good one! This one seemed to be more straight forward. Showing another side of the band! Which is really cool. Nick , I agree that the beginning had an oasis vibe for sure. Im excited and also a bit jealous(lol) that you are going to See them live! But mostly excited for you guys! Thanks for another great video! Love you both. Have a great week!
Hey well I guess we’ll see you at the show. We saw them a couple years ago during the Wasteland tour at the Boulder Theater. Great show as I’m sure this one will be also. Hope to see you two there.
What a nice sound this band produces. I've just listened to the 'Love, Fear and the Time Machine' album and it's excellent. If you like that type of prog music you might like a band called Airbag from Norway. Here's a youtube link to their 'A Day at the Beach' album: ruclips.net/video/yuzoY2PI4zE/видео.html enjoy!!!
The craziest progressive track by Riverside: "Hybrid Times" Anno Domini High Definition or Mariusz Duda (bass, vocals, Riverside composer) solo project by Lunatic Soul: "Suspended in Whiteness", "Cold", "Gutter".
This was my lullaby ... checked the channel before going to bed ... and they sing about "pillow" :-) For me there are honestly 2 Riversides, the one with Piotr and the one without Piotr. I like them both, but the special sound of Piotr's guitar is not there anymore. I just listened to Second Life Syndrom this weekend and the guitar always catches me, it's simply magical ! I had to laugh about your words at the end :-) No, I don't have a Spotify account and don't plan to get one ... so I'm not gonna mess up your playlists; you'll get my recommendations in small portions :-))))
Well, on Wasteland, the album after Piotr's death Marius Duda played both guitar and bass. So we haven't yet heard a recording of new guitarist Maciej Meller. But he was good in the band Quidam for many years so I am hopeful their 1st album recorded with him will be another gem.
@@tonys2899 Wow! Haven't heard Poland's "Quidam" since 1st hearing them on the Prog Internet Station "Progulus" :). They were popular many years ago on that station (with a TON of others, that we were able to get into before they caught on, including Riverside, Indukti and Lunatic Soul).
Guys, did you hear Riverside's keyboard player Michal Lapaj solo album titled Are You There? If not I would highly recommend it :) Would be great if you could do a reaction video to the Fleeting Skies song. Beautiful piece of music :)
If you are looking for another Riverside song with great bass, please check out "The depth of self delusion" but it has to be the live version (purple lighted background on the picture; it is about 12 minutes in length). The whole second half of the song features Duda and his excellent bass solo.
Nice. Please, please please play Lunatic Soul Gutter if you want to hear some great bass playing. You will really love it. Same lead singer etc as mentioned already.
Oh wow, so glad you got to hear another Riverside tune! Good choice Melissa to showcase their diverse sound! This is also a great album with positive vibes.. I may have suggested Discard your fear 1st off this one, or Caterpillar and the Barb Wire, or #Addicted. Anyway now you can check this whole album out! If you post a video of Lex playing base to this song a year or 2 from now I bet I'll be moved to cry lol. And I am overjoyed that my trying to get you two into this band has gotten some of your followers and friends into them! Since unfortunately they don't play great music on the radio anymore these days, but a few bands still create it, word of mouth through social media is now one of the best ways to discover it. It warms my heart that 2.5k people have heard Escalator Shrine already on your channel and now they will hear this.
Great pick of a song by Melissa and fabulous pick of Melissa by Tony. She is a keeper Tony. Shoutout to Lex for the matching blouse and earrings. Looking good! Nick is correct in that we are all wanted to see you slay that bass Lex.
Pineapple Thief is another favorite band of mine. Some of my favorite songs to check out are Final thing on my Mind, In Exile, Reaching Out, White Mist, Threatening War, or some older material like Snowdrops and Remember Us. Preferably live version. Gavin Harrison (formerly of Porcupine Tree) is now their full time drummer.
My least favourite release from Riverside, and still, there are gems on this recording, including this one! I just prefer their heavier side. Consider checking out Hybrid Times, Volte Face, Second Life Syndrome, Wasteland. For their most melodic, consider After, Left Out, The Depth of Self Delusion. This is one of my top five bands.
Is the Spotify playlist called Nick and Lex’s Infinite Playlist? Oh, and that’s so mean putting so much pressure on Lex to learn this bass part. After all, everybody knows girls can’t rock the bass. Or can they? 🤔
1. Tal Wilkenfeld with Jeff Beck - We've Ended as Lovers ruclips.net/video/BVgUzUZeTw4/видео.html 2. Esperanza Spalding - Endangered Species ruclips.net/video/aZ4uarjLsKg/видео.html You can do it Lexi! Encourage her gently Nick :).
I love the Talking Heads, and Tina Weymouth was their bass player. Of course plenty of women can rock it, I have never seen someone needing to use a penis on their bass??!!
Yes to irony. Jokingly Using a form of reverse psychology. For some people, if you tell them no you can’t do it, they will want to prove you wrong. I also love Tina Weymouth.
Riverside, awesome. I am surprised that you never followed Marillion down the rabbit hole. Have a listen/watch to Gaza live in your own time. You can thank me later.
I love Marillion. Especially when Fish was the singer, The music is still great without him but the singing doesn't have the same soul in my opinion without him. And he was an incredible lyricist. I would start them with the songs He Knows you Know, and the beautiful song Warm Wet Circles.
@@tonys2899 Have you listened to Gaza live? I love both eras but I have to say that Hogarth has connected to me over the 30 plus years and I am looking forward to their new album in less than 2 weeks time.
@@tonys2899 Your right. Fish gave the band a different personality as its lead singer and composer. However, I find his vocals to be way sub-par for a prominent band, and singing poorly with great passion doesn't fix that issue for me. Hogarth, on the other hand, is a fabulous vocalist and just as good a composer as Fish ever was, and to my ear he sings even more passionately than Fish, and he has the great voice to enhance his passion. The Fish tunes have zero emotional connection for me, while Hogarth elicits earthquakes in my very soul. It saddens me greatly to see a reactor do a Fish-era song, because I fear it will turn off viewers new to the band who go away thinking the band sounds cool, but the singer sucks, and Marillion therefore is not worth a deep dive. This is all IMHO. You are entitled to your humble opinion. Different strokes for different folks. We all have different personalities, likes, and dislikes. I just wanted to balance out your perspective. If anybody reading this exchange is influenced to check out Marillion, try both the pre-1989 and post-1989 versions of the band. The latter has way more material to explore, seeing Marillion has always been putting out new material since 1989, and has a new CD being released on March 4, 2022.
Probably the weakest song on the album which is one of Riversides best. Please dive back in though it is one of those albums you have to play right through to get the effect.

What happened today with your face
Your eyes
Sank in their hollows
And the ocean of your disgrace
It's no shame
You haven't done what you were supposed to
And did what you didn't want to
One up
The amount of self-deception
Slowly starts killing you
Inside
You're faced
With a new decision
Between the dawn and the day
Melting
Between the life you got used to
And something you don't understand
I know
It demands an effort
And the pills to get rid of this pain
Not a chance
I'm sorry, Birdy
I'm your favourite voice inside your head
Hey you
Rise and shine
You must learn to stand your ground
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?
You kept yourself to yourself
Day by day
Growing delusions in the blue flowerpots
Your filter bubble
On the touchscreen display
Has recommended to you
What you should want
While you've been watching too much daytime TV
Dreaming on demand
Your from tomorrow just became yesterday
Made you crawl again
Under the bed covers
Hey you
Rise and shine
You must learn to stand your ground
How long can you hold your breath under the pillow?
