So FFXI and XIV actually do have main stories and final bosses etc. FFXI will be played up through the final boss of the original game, and FFXIV will be playing through A Realm Reborn. Both of these titles will most likely be played in “New Game+”-replaying the story missions of their original content.

Thanks for asking. This isn’t a speedrunning event. Think of it more like a “casual playthrough with haste”. And for XI and XIV, we are counting only the base game’s MSQ. FFXI will end after defeating the Shadow Lord. In this case with FFXIV, it is A Realm Reborn’s MSQ up through The Praetorium dungeon.
