Very nice video, stayed focused on the jewels and not the politics. It reminds me of a section from Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile." Simon did not like Lynette because she was bossy. But, he did like the thought of her money. Wallis may have found the duke vapid and tedious to be with, but she did like the status of being with him and the jewels he gave her. If you have to be trapped, you might as well be trapped in the best of surroundings.

The comment i made in deference to commonality of situation between the present heir apparent and HRH the Duke of Windsor had absolutely Nothing to do with money.
Get your brains out of your pocket and THINK about what I commented on. I don't happen to give a DAMN about money of the Crown.

I was lucky enough to see the Persian Empire Jewels, when I was visiting my dad for the summer in Tehran in 1966. It was truly astonishing to go into the vaults...rooms and rooms and rooms of them. It made the British Empire Jewels somewhat puny. He was on loan as a consultant to Iran Air, from Pan American Airways. We were so blessed to have visited some of the most wonderful places, during the Golden Age of Flying. Such stunningly beautiful women, dressed in Western clothes back then in Iran. No words. Tragic how it all ended.

My dad arranged a birthday party for me with their friends, at the Tehran Hilton. Eight waiters in tux's, came out holding two flaming shish kebabs each for dinner, with Persian dancing music playing. It was spectacular. Belly dancer came out later in the evening for entertainment. Nothing topped that birthday!
P.S. Talk about a different world. I flew to Tehran from NYC by myself. Even got myself home from JFK to Staten Island all by myself.

And the Duchess who did wear the newest fashions, was mostly given clothes by designers. She was a style icon and got a lot of publicity about what she wore. She had dementia the last 10 years of her life and spent it in their Paris home. I’ve seen interviews with their domestic servants and they took care of her. She didn’t even have a Nurse or trained caregiver to look after her. When she died, Mohammed El Fayed bought the house. And had it restored to be exactly how it was when the Duke and Duchess were alive and well. The Duke might have gotten a small amount of money from the Crown, but certainly not enough to support him in the manner he was accustomed to. But he and the Duchess still lived like they were wealthy. And they weren’t.

The jewels were absolutely stunning but this was not a great love affair. Wallis never wanted Edward to abdicate nor did she want to matty him. She felt very trapped. Wallis loved her husband but they played the game to long. They were in it for the favors, social standing & money. Mr. Simpson did made a great deal of money from contracts and business deals thrown his way by Edward. Basically he pimped Wallis out. Wallis was planning to leave Edward after the coronation but he had a complete breakdown and she was forced to stay. Letters found a few years ago prove it. They were written by Wallis to her husband. She writes of how much she lives and misses him. How all she wants is to be his wife again. She also explains how upset & devasted she was that their hope for a future together were destroyed when Edward foolishly abdicated. Wallis felt like she had no choice but to marry Edward. I believe she at times was cruel towards him because she was full of regret. Edward acted more of a child then a man and no woman wants to be married to a child. I would have thought that after all those years of having to be the strong one and constantly reassuring edward and babying him she would have come to hate him a great deal.

I love jewelry, but hers were attached like a leash. I did read she still loved her husband and they wrote letters back and forth even after she married Edward. What a betrail. I think she just couldn't be faithful to one man..That must have drove Edward into jealous obsession. I also read she couldn't have children - something about her female or not so female organs....

My father worked for American Export Lines in the orchestra in the 1950's. Back then air travel was still not that common, so people got on cruise ships - (The Independence, the SS America, The United States, and the Constitution) ...especially to the Mediterranean. The world's 'most famous dinner guests' as the Windsors were called, traveled with a full entourage, trunks galore, the Duke always carrying their little doggies....and embroidered 'HRH' linen. They would bring their own bedsheets with the royal crest on them. My father said the Duke often looked like he had swallowed something disagreeable. During one especially tough Atlantic crossing, the ocean pitched and rolled, and the band instruments were rolling all over the dance floor; people locked themselves in their cabins. Dad came out to check on things, and the piano rolled and skidded across the floor, slamming him into a wall....Just then the Duke appeared in the doorway, evidently out on a stroll, for a smoke break. He looked at my Dad, then sniffed, "Pity we couldn't dance," he said. My father said he wanted to pitch the SOB over the railing, and might well have done so, were it not for his broken hand.

For the men who love deeply and the women who are lucky to be loved lavishly....beautiful jewellery with precious stones are a most wonderful expression of love!
The Dutchess was a simple woman who wore her jewellery with love and gratitude....a lovely way to say 'thank you' to her beloved... 💕
A very exciting love story and definitely a collection of some of the best pieces of fine jewellery I've seen!
Thank you for the video! 😊👌🏽🥂💎

They cozied up to Hitler and the Nazis, and she suggested to Hitler that he should bomb Britain flat. Thank God we had the current queen's father, George VI, on the throne during the war. He was amazing. He toured the bombed cities and stayed in London throughout the blitz. He and Churchill were often called out in the middle of the night to welcome yet another king, queen or prime minister who had escaped the Nazis. We also had the new US Ambassador, Gil Wynant who, together with Ed Murrow, did so much to support us when the uk, the commonwealth, 🇨🇦🇦🇺🇳🇿🇿🇦and the heroes from Poland and Czechoslovakia were fighting alone.

Sad life these 2 had -- living only for themselves. Playing “dress up” for dinner -- when they were alone. I wonder if Edward donated any money for charity. He probably couldn’t afford to after spending all of that money on Precious Jewels for Wallis. He must have been absolutely mad about her. After he died - Wallis was alone -- until she died. Not especially lives to be envied. -- unless you are a totally materialistic.

Wallis needed the jewelry because quite frankly she was not a looker. She might have had a vibrant personality, but in reality she was cruel to "David" and often treated him like dirt. Those jewels were his gifts to keep her devotion; in reality, she had to have something to compensate for the lack of physical and emotional beauty. She never loved "David," but she sure loved his money, his gifts, and the opportunities he gave her.

Hi Andrew, missed this along the way. I read a bio of the Duchess, not very flattering, accused her of being a spy for the Chinese early on, sd she did not want Edward to give up the throne but to hold out to have that and her marriage to him. Didnt happen, claimed she was ever after rather disrespectful to him privately, on & on, quite bad. The rubies early on are quite amazing, that engagement ring, whew, the cats are ofc fabulous, as are the huge diamonds at the end. Have you been too busy to make videos these days, I suspect so. Hope you are always well my friend, I await new dreams from you. Much love, many blessings to you! ~~Chanel

Years ago I met the x kings personal secretary. She became a wonderful friend to me. It was way down the road of our friendship when she told me about her youth. We would go through so many pictures. She was with the king for years. It all started the day I saw a photo in her in her husband's home office. The young man in the black and white photo looked just like JFK and his wife looked just like Jackie K. They were sitting next to her and her husband. Turned out to be real. It was JFK and his wife. That was one of many photos she would share with me. She was amazing. I was a nobody worker bee and she treated me like a princess. Her husband was famous and when I found that out I could not believe it. This couple was amazing. They were kind and loving. I loved all her stories and the photos of her life with the King and his "American wife". She always said how much he loved her. Never said anything bad about her. But it was clear the king was deeply in love. She too met and fell in love with an American and ended up living the rest of her life in New York. She absolutely loved New York and her new country. So hard to believe I lived that chapter of my life.
