There are times when social media should never exist. All the time we waste reading, listening to gossip. Doc, today I am grateful that I was on RUclips today. God bless you and thank you for this video - teach a person Hiw to fish 👍
I'm mentally weak i been reading a lot on mental health but to be honest nothing is helping me but your video cought my eye of fear and mental toughness. Why? Because i think facing fears will make you mentally tough I'm going to try it out . great video god bless.
Thank doc. I was afraid to test my leg out after I snapped the tib and fib in half. I still have nerve issues but once I started trusting it I haven't looked back. I had to have a good mental to get through it.
Here are a few ways to become mentally strong: 1. Be giving/volunteer: Join a group and go to volunteer in a large scale disaster dedicating a week to doing nothing but helping others. Lifting others is always an uplifting experience and spending a week at your own expense to help others earning nothing but finding it to be a more rewarding experience than working for money as usual really frees us from capitalism. Spending a week living and working with people many of whom have lost everything including loved ones really helps us appreciate every single thing and every moment in life as well. The inner happiness from selflessly helping others in times of great need is one that stays with us forever. 2. Fast: Study intermittent fasting to learn of the benefits of 48 hour or longer fasts. Fasting for days teaches us we’re stronger than we thought, both mentally and physically, including the mental challenge of fasting itself. Once we know we can fast and that fasting is healthy, controlling our weight and health become much easier. 3. Fight sports: Learn fight sports of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, wrestling, Judo, etc and actually spar, roll and compete on any level. Fight sports are wonderful for teaching both self-confidence as well as humility. 4. Challenge yourself, always.
feels good hearing 5:46, ive had the thought process of keep working at what you know and do it good but for a long time in my childhood i had no support what so ever, emotional support sounds so dumb and "unmanly" but information like this is what parents and guardians are supposed to teach and instill. thank you for the mental boost.
Been in a grind of a training period. Training for a marathon and running a 100 plus miles a week. I'm my own motivation. Was not feeling up to working out and your video came up. With a marker I wrote Don't give in, Don't give up. I had to do speed work. I warmed up and ran my fastest 4 miles repeats in a workout in 23 yrs. One was 5:01. Absolutely love this video. Have posted on our website and pushed a message out and recommend all athletes spend the best 19 minutes they could ever spend watching.
Love the ending at the Colts training field. Hope your thinking takes them to the Super Bowl again lol. As a veteran and a Boy scout as a young man this has always been my thinking. Great job for those who didn't get this training in their lives.
I think this has more to do with age then anything else. I used to feel invincible. Always fight to the bitter end no matter what even in defeat. Now at 48, I could careless. I’m more scheming then fighting.
@@drrobBell Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Life wears you down. Your examples are pro athletes who are young and don’t have that wear of life.

Dr. Bell, thank you for sharing your knowledge regarding mental toughness and I really found it helpful. Good information - my older brother experiences issues with my mental performance and I am researching information to give him some much needed direction - this is most helpful.
The anecdote you mentioned about two samurai and one seeing only the eye, is originally taken from Maha bharata where Arjuna when asked by his teacher dronacharya replies I see the eye of the fish. :)
I am sure. It was the eye of the bird. When the 5 brothers all were training in the jungle with dronacharya. He asked each brother to hit the target , the eye of the bird sitting over the branch. And asked each one in succession "What do they see before them ?" One said. I see the tree. Other said. I see the the ground, the roots, trees whole jungle. Third one said. I see leaves the branches... Etc. When Arjun was asked. He said" I only see the eye of the bird ".
