    For almost 2 full years now I’ve had the CLEW snowboard bindings. I’ve snowboarded on them in every condition imaginable and taken them to all sorts of destinations. Deep powder days in Utah and Colorado, Snowboarding super icy and negative temperatures in Wyoming, spring Slush in West Virginia. Any snow condition, every snowboard I own, and a variety of stances, I have used these bindings every time I’ve been on a snowboard since April of 2022. So I wanted to give my thoughts and opinions on would I still recommend the CLEW step in snowboard bindings as well as go through the binding piece by piece and show you how all of the components are doing and holding up after 2 snowboard seasons of use. I also cover a few of the changes and improvements CLEW is making to its snowboard bindings by showing my original pair, which I still use the most, as well as my new set of bases which are the current 2023-2024 snowboard binding model. And this is NOT. Sponsored video, I’m making this purely to show how these bindings have held up for the average snowboard rider and give a review from someone who has been on these consistently over the last few snowboard season and tested them in a variety of snow scenarios and multiple snowboards. I am a part of Team CLEW through affiliate sales, for which I am EXTREMELY grateful, but this is not any sort of paid promotional video🙂🤙🏻

    I’m an advanced snowboarder, and using Clews for 3 months. I’m loving it. You lose a bit of comfort/shock absorption for easy step in/out. Indeed there are bindings with more shock absorption, but they are improving. In the beginning I still had a little issue to get out, but was me adapting to it. I really recommend to be really careful with that red screw that you showed on the toe strap, I almost lost one before slopes. Overall I really recommend, even after the Angrysnowboard review. I think that he missed some good points.

      Nice! Glad to hear you’re enjoying them as well!! Ya they aren’t the most damp but I think they do pretty solid job and especially the newer foam makes them significantly better. I don’t want them too too damp anyway, I prefer to feel a little bit but that’s just my personal preference. Ya the first few days till I learned keeping the weight on my heel I thought something was wrong with them, but once I learned that I haven’t ever had any trouble. Dang, ya if you lost that you’d be potentially SOL but I’ve only ever adjusted them at home or in the car. Glad you didn’t lose it! That would make for a bad day for sure!
      Ya his review just felt too biased/one sided. He went into them already hating them and I feel like because of that he glossed over a lot and definitely didn’t touch on everything. It just felt like an excuse to make a video trashing a product without any solid input or anything to back up a lot of the claims he made.

    I had a problem with CLEW screws not reaching my board (only my right leg, I'm regular). I wasted almost 1 hour trying different positions, pressing the binding, etc. I just used my old Salomon binding screws, and it worked. CLEW is a game-changer for me. I have mobility issues, and every time all my friends need to wait for me because I was super slow to engage normal bindings. Now I'm faster like a skier, and my resort runs aren't the biggest ones.
    Also, My resort doesn't have super long runs, so I have to keep taking off and putting on the bindings frequently. I don't get as tired from constantly bending down to put on the bindings, and I can ride for at least 1 hour longer compared to before (I typically spend an average of 6 hours on the mountain with a break usually for lunch after 3 hours). Damp it's not very good (2024 version), but I like more live.. It's not perfect product but I liked.

      That’s awesome! And great that they were able to help you out a lot! I’ve heard of a lot of people with mobility issues of different sorts and step in/on bindings have helped them out tremendously! Glad you’re able to get some extra laps and time on the mountain in because of it! I’m in the same boat. My local resort runs are only 1-2 min long so on a typical day you’re looking at 20ish laps so that’s 40 times you have to strap/unstrap (20 of each) so to have a way to speed that process up is a game changer for sure! I think a lot of people at bigger resorts or with access to longer runs don’t realize what it can be like on smaller hills. That’s weird that your screws didn’t reach though. No idea why that could be 🤷🏻‍♂️ I’m the same way, I don’t want a binding that’s overly damp, I like to feel a bit of what’s going on so for that I think they’re about in the sweet spot for me.😁🤙🏻

      I had the same problem but finally figured it out. So if you go to 10:05 -10:10 of the video he shows you sliding the toe section of the foot pad. Make sure it’s set into position. If it’s not fully set into the grooves the screws won’t reach. It’s easy for it to be resting on the grooves so make sure it’s flush first. Thanks for the thorough review . Been riding burton step ons for a few years and looking to get into Clews next season. I have two questions that you hopefully can answer.
    1: I wear a size 14 boot. Do you know if the Large Clew binding accommodates that size?

      1. I’m not 100% about the sizing question, but I can definitely reach out to somebody and get you an answer for sure. I’ll shoot them a message right after I answer this comment.😁
      2. that was the only downside when I switched from the Burtons to these, I love my photon boots, but with the heel piece, they won’t fit in the binding. I wound up selling mine to buy some new boots. I have never done it, but I have seen people talk about taking the heel cleat off and riding without it. But I’m not sure what that does, in terms of keeping water out of getting into the boot. Since it does leave a screw hole in the back of the boot.

    @MountainMitchYT 4 месяца назад

    Hey Alex, I used Clew bindings for 4 months, and there use to be a video on my channel about how much I loved them. But I have a question for you, have you ever tried strap in bindings AFTER spending a long time on step in bindings? I picked up a pair of strap in Union Ultras, deemed "the most comfortable binding?" by BoardArchive, Casey Willax rides them as well, and even the Angry Snowboarder had them in his top 5 park bindings of this year. When I got on the Union Ultras, I noticed my riding immediately progressed. It's almost like because they don't have to worry about a step in feature, they can focus all their effort into the quality of ride for the binding. For example, there's soooo much foam on these bindings. Like there's foam UNDERNEATH the binding while Clew has 0 foam underneath the binding. It became worth the time investment FOR ME PERSONALLY to strap in as opposed to step in.
    You think I should make a video on my experience? Trying to think of video ideas. I wrote this out cuz I'm script writing for it 😂Do you script write for your videos?

      I had it the first time I tightened them down on my original set but never again after that. I’ve had it with a few bindings in the past the first time I’d use them. But a few things I would check would be to make sure the footbed is fully in the right position on the bottom, also make sure the to strap is pulled all the way up into the groove up underneath the binding and maybe it’s not sitting totally flush. Another review of a “PERFECT” binding!!! 👏🏻
    It’s annoying how every reviewer fails to mention the negatives of this binding!
    Yes, its a massive step forward for snowboarding world! And I’m stoked about it, but for this price point that base plate is unacceptable for any serious rider! Having a good base plate (the only thing thats in direct contact with the board) is bare minimum these days for any good binding.
    Loved the easy in & out mechanism, straps and high back works well but 0 heel shock absorption, terrible board feel, bad for topsheet.
    You would hate the ride quality if you’re used to any good binding but love the innovation.
    I really hope they improve the baseplate (heel shock absorption & bushing) in upcoming season so I can finally get them!

    • @BoardsBikesAndHikes
      @BoardsBikesAndHikes  5 месяцев назад +1

      I’m not saying that they’re perfect, I don’t think any product will ever be perfect, but for me they pretty much tick all the boxes and I don’t really have any complaints. I do agree tweaking the base and maybe adding in something to the bottom to allow it to flex, or go to a mini disk vs a standard disk size would improve them for sure and hope that’s something they adopt in the future. But I’m happy with how they ride as a whole and have had a very positive experience with them. They’re definitely not the most damp for sure but they do a solid enough job for me and I’ve got no complaints. I prefer a bit of the board feel underneath me anyway vs an overly damp binding.
      In the past I’ve ridden union forces, contact pros, burton malavitas, burton step ons, just for reference of other bindings I’ve been on. My buddy recently got some jones bindings I’d like to ride just to see how they compare ride quality wise since I’ve heard they’re supposed to be phenomenal

      Ya they definitely aren’t the MOST DAMP but with the newer foam it’s a significant improvement for me and even then I’d never say it was bad for me. I’ve always enjoyed the way they feel but I I like a little bit of board feel anyway, I don’t want them overly damp.
      So it’s hard to say, I know there was a guy who commented on one of my videos a few weeks ago saying he added in some foam and padded and even filled in the gap under the highback. He had said he was going to send me photos but never did🤷🏻‍♂️ you could also maybe try insoles and see if they helped enough, I’ve never ran snowboard insoles so I’m not sure. I’ve heard they’re game changers 🤣

      My bad, I’ve mentioned it in several other videos and just completely forgot to add it in to this one. The bindings themselves weigh 2.4lbs (2.8 with all the hardware) they’re about 2 oz heavier than a standard traditional binding. Then as for rigidity they’re a stiffer binding. Like a 8-9/10 in terms of flex 🙂🤙🏻

    What’s your take on all the hate these get? Aside from vloggers I see a bunch of negative stuff on forums, and the angry snowboarder tore these apart. Just curious since you say you don’t get paid to review these like other channels.

    • @derekconstantino7759
      @derekconstantino7759 5 месяцев назад

      Because they're shit bindings. Thats why there's hate..

    • @BoardsBikesAndHikes
      @BoardsBikesAndHikes  5 месяцев назад +2

      So I could be wrong but I’d wager to say the majority of the hate stems from 3 groups all of which who have never actually tried these bindings. And amongst that a lot of misinformation gets spread
      1.) the online trolls who just jump on the hate bandwagon along with several other brands that get a lot of unnecessary hate
      2.) the more “traditional” snowboarders who hate anything new or different. The same ones that 2-3 years ago gave burton step ons the same massive surge in hate till these came along, and once another method comes out, they’ll move on to hating the next trend.
      3. The people who tried step ons in the 90s and had a bad experience (these I at least understand) so they have no desire to try the new ones.
      I’m not saying that covers all of the hate but I’d say that covers the majority. Of course they may not be for everybody but most people that I’ve talked in person or in comments that have actually tried riding them either love them or at least have some positive take away even if they still aren’t for them. Again everybody is different and has different rising styles/preferences

    • @BoardsBikesAndHikes
      @BoardsBikesAndHikes  5 месяцев назад +3

      As for angrys “review” I’ve watched it twice because after it was posted, where I was one of the ones specifically called out, I woke up to more hate messages in one morning than I’ve ever received probably the entire time I’ve been posting and what I can say is this: it felt more biased and one sided than any review I’ve ever watched of any product ever. He’s done nothing but trash them, or any step in bindings, so of course he was going to completely hate them. But what I really didn’t like about it specifically was the fact that he makes all these claims but then gives 0 proof or evidence to back any of them up. He literally says “these screws look different…THEY MUST BE CHEAP”, and talking about buttering out of them or screws shearing off. I feel like if you’re going to make claims that bold, show some photo or video proof to back it up. Me personally I just can’t trust a product reviewer whom you never see actually use or test that product. To me it just felt like a cheap cash grab at Adsense because he knows the step in/step on bindings are a hot and trending topic. And no surprise it’s his best performing video he’s posted in years

    • @BoardsBikesAndHikes
      @BoardsBikesAndHikes  5 месяцев назад

      Again they may not be for everyone but as a whole I’ve been happy with mine the whole time, and you can look through the comments here as well and anybody else on here that’s used them has a similar opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️ I just think people should give them a fair shot and test ride before totally knocking a product

      Even Jonathan Buckhouse says what I'm about to say below. If you're getting both clicks every time, document that, make an unedited video showing you getting off the lift and getting both clicks in right away. Do that on a normal ski day with just a little bit of snow in the base.
      Even the tiniest bit of snow, any kind of snow: slush, fresh snow stuck in the base will prevent the bindings to secure to the base. One click, never 2 clicks.
