    This song is one of my strongest memory of my dad. He loved this music, he had great taste in music. When I was young we watched together concert of Tears for Fears and once he told me "please, let this music play on my own funeral". Unfortunately that day came, I lost my dad. This song accompanied him to heaven. Miss you Edson.

    It's a shame that their hit songs got played to death on the Radio, they were not just a Pop band, they were THE BEST sounding British band ever !! even the filler tracks like this and Mothers Talk are still sonic masterpieces, listen to Big Chair, Seeds of Love on a good player with some decent headphones, these albums still sound better than anything that's been recorded or mixed in over 25 yrs, absolute perfection. !!

    I remember buying this entire album just for "Head Over Heels", but back then, I was only looking for songs I remembered from my childhood that played on the radio. Anything that I hadn't heard before, or anything modern that had just come out, I pretty much just automatically shunned it because I wasn't familiar with it. Then I heard this song and that entire mentality of mine just burned like a cane field in a high wind.

    Ian Stanley's finest (and final) moment with TFF.

    • @kw19193
      @kw19193 4 года назад +10

      Finest absolutely, but not quite his last. He was involved with Sowing the Seeds of Love but the boys, mostly Roland, wanted to prove that they didn't need his writing and arranging skills (massive mistake) so out he went. Stanley was vital to their success and with his sacking their drawn out descent into almost interestingness began . . . Cheers!

    • @kw19193
      @kw19193 4 года назад +8

      @@helencybercafe7969 Cheers Helen. Orzabal's ego pretty much sums it up. Chris Hughes was the first to go during the recording of The Seeds of Love and that, as I understand, got a bit messy. There were loads of rumors that Orzabal and Nikki Holland were having an affair and that he wanted her, not Stanley and/or Hughes, to be his collaborator (to the extent he even wanted one at that time). Stanley hung on into the recording of that album but was finally sacked when the boys, again, mostly Roland, decided they didn't need him and said "Toodles . . ." But Orzabal wasn't done. After the incredibly brainless sacking of Stanley he forced Curt (who was freighted with personal issues) out of the band a year or so later and then proceeded to run this once magnificent band into the dirt in the following years. To be fair, Orzabal does seem to have finally gained some perspective on all this and now does, at least to some small extent, acknowledge Stanley's importance to their success . . . but some small, tossed off acknowledgement from Orzabal hardly does Stanley the credit he deserves. Cheers!

    • @helencybercafe7969
      @helencybercafe7969 4 года назад +5

      @@kw19193 Thank you for that. I always wondered what happened to both Ian and Manny. I read/heard a few interviews where Roland and Curt referred to Ian as "the rich kid" kind of implying that they liked using his kit but that he was never really part of the gang. I'd heard stuff about Nicky Holland before so what you're saying makes sense. I always thought Ian was supremely talented (but obviously a bit uncomfortable being in the spotlight which made me like him even more). In Scenes From the Big Chair he talks about "Listen" being 'his baby'. To think what they could've created if they'd stayed together. But hey, all bands have issues don't they? Thanks for your reply.

"Listen" was always one of my favorite songs of the 80's and even now. There is something about the background vocals (Marylin something or other I think) that is ghostly and when he says... This song continues to sink deeply into my reverie. The synthesized arrangement is astonishing. I remember every indescribable emotion that it evokes. Like Billy Joel's "Goodnight Saigon," Tears For Fears' "Listen" affects everyone differently. These unadulterated masterpieces pierce the human psyche and linger in one's memory: timelessly.

    The synth, the guitars, hook after hook enough can not be said about this. I dont care too much for the hurting or any of their other albums except for a few tracks here and there, woman in chains is one of those . But this one is unique, whether by mistake or deliberate they made something that was perfect. Literally almost 40 years and every couple of months I go back to it especially the deep cuts: listen, working hour and broken. They stand up just as well as their hits.

I would listen to this and almost be wisked away in some sort of spiritual meditation, connecting with my brother as he traversed into the afterlife. I go back each and every time I hear it. Very mesmerizing piece of music from a very talented group of individuals.... 'till we meet again John.

    TEARS FOR FEARS
    "Listen"
    Mother Russia, badly burned
    Your children lick your wounds
    Your wounds
    Pilgrim father sailed away
    Found a brave new world
    New world
    Listen...
    Soothe my feeling
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    Soothe my feeling
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    I feel it, soothe my feeling
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    Soothe it, soothe it, soothe my feeling, now I feel it
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    Oh, just how I hope the people to say, soothe my feeling
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    I feel it, hold me, take a look at my chance
    (Cumpleaños chica, no hay que preocuparse)
    Take a look at my mercy, take a look at my feeling
