NEW Airbus A350 Is A PROBLEM For Boeing. Here’s WHY

  • The A350 is the bombshell that is going to aid Airbus's ongoing onslaught of whatever remains of Boeing’s integrity in the aviation industry. They’ve finally released their secret weapon which comes with tons of pleasant surprises that will win over a majority of Boeing’s loyal customers. So, how the new Airbus A350 is going to end Boeing’s dominance?
    The A350 was born at a time when the Airbus was placed under great pressure by its major competitor, Boeing. This story goes back to 2004 when the Airbus A330 family was the rave. It was the model that was bringing in the money for Airbus. Just then, Boeing turned the tide and introduced the Boeing 787 and the 777 models, majorly wide-body aircraft that could carry between 250-300 passengers. Somehow, this factor drew more passengers away from airlines that relied on the smaller Airbus A330 to airlines that had resorted to using the wider-bodied Boeing 787 for long-haul travel.

      they act like the 787 only sold 200 plane, smoking some crack if you think the 787 is in any danger because of the 350, United just place an order for 100 787, Airbus has always been on the catchup lets copy Boeing, 747 flew for 50+ years before airbus came to life then try to out do the 747 with the under achieving 380, HAHAH, then the 787 comes out and they went with the 350, looks to me like airbus isn't leading the way but copying the way......

    The A350 is a masterpiece. I know the divide in the coments so, let me say, I'm an American and grew up as a bit of a boeing fanboy, I admit it. But the A350 is perfection. The 787 is right there with it, though, in a slightly different niche, so as an enthusiast, I love that those two jets can coexist and thrive side by side. I am sad to see the 777 bow out, as IMO it was the greatest widebody twin until the A350.

    The reality is that neither side is going to destroy the other because producing aircraft is hard and takes many resources, the backlogs for both companies are insane and how long it takes until you get an aircraft is important for Airlines, so if one has a lot of orders, the other becomes more appealing.

      Boeing is destroying whats left of consumer confidence even in the US. Congress gave them two more years for the Max to comply with half assed safety standards. Only the fact that the US kept Airbus out for so many years and subsidizes them with troubled military contracts keeps them alive. Frontier Spirit are all Airbus, Delta has many, Alaska-Skywest fly's Embraer E170s on commuter and shorter routes. As Southwest Airlines put pressure on Boeing to keep proper Simulator time off the must do list resulting in the two crashes. I will not fly on planes knowingly built to fail. Yes all planes crash but the Max was gross negligence. They knew it was terribly engineered. They are complicit in MURDER.

    787 is really not a bad airplane.... But its really alone in Boeing's line up. Airbus got a pretty much complete lineup from 110 seat A220 to a 350 seat A350-900 with the largest gap Between the A321XLR to the A330-800Neo of only 50 seats. Also A220 and A350 is totaly up to date models while A320 and A330 neo series is mostly up to date.
    Looking on boeings series its pretty much anorectic. The 737 max is smaler than the A321XLR, but not as economical as the A220. The 787 is a greate aircraft, but also significantly larger than the 737. Also the max10 coming 2500km short of the XLR, being a but to short for both trans continental and intercontinental flights.
    While the 777 is stacket right on top of the 787 just like the A350 is to the A330neo... The scale of economy is in the 777x case of set by the lower fuel economy of the aging frame.
    While A319neo technically have this problem to the A220-300... and the A320neo will have it to the A220-500... the A320 still have several key benefit like type rating that 777 really don´t have to the 787.
    The 737 have also totally grewn out of the regional market where it have its origin. The A320 was really never a regional aircraft, while it have been used for that in some places. Now Airbus also have the far superior A220 as a regional to mid distance aircraft.
    With that said... A330neo is selling ok.. but not great. Airbus need to think of a replacement.
    A320 series is selling great, but to be fair, that have a lot to do with boeings problem, and it won´t last for ever. To my opinion the A220 is the superior aircraft, and the only reason why A320 is really just doing more orders currently is due to lacking A220-500 and there being a much larger stock of A320 family. Look at the A320 CEO family. 80, 1500, 4800, 1800 orders. Barley any A318... So airbus killed if off.. What about the NEO family... 85, 4000, 4600... Now the A319 doing barley any order. A220-300 have pretty much wiped the A319 market clean.
    A220-500 will eventually clean up the A320neo market. Airbus biggest threat is airbus.
    Don´t get me wrong. 787 is a brilliant aircraft. Airbus can afford A220 digging in to the A320 series. Actually i would say it benefit them (and to my understanding the A220 is cheaper to build). Boeing got one modern airliner, 2 conversion that for what it looks like today, both are sub par.
    Airbus got 2 modern airliners. And 2 conversions that are decent. Yes sure, A330neo is not selling great. But its the one in the airbus family that stands up to a superior boeing.

      @@mathieumenegoz1920 Of cause they declared 500 dead when the A320neo was just brand new.
      I´m well aware of the Airbus sales corruption affair. But that was prior to the really large increase in Sales. of cause, that don´t prove that they still are doing dirty dealings, but it also don´t prove they do. Boeing have done similar things in the past. Really most global companies have.
      Its a bit more complicated than airbus was just bribing people. While the court decision was in 2019, the actual case was from 2012 about bribery between 2004 and 2012. It makes it a bit more complicated because the law was change in 2010 to make it more clear that this was illegal, prior it was sort of a gray zone thing.
      I´m not commenting on rumors.
      Airbus don´t have production subsidies, they have development subsides, or rather development deals. There have been some airbus subcontractors in France at the airbus plant that gotten subsidies for production. But that was really to rob other partners from the deal. Have to remember that airbus is conglomeration, its not one company.
      While 6 seat row are a bit more economical than 5 row seat. A220 makes up for this, and then some with simply a more modern design. Even the A320Neo is mostly a rather old design, with modern features. And well the 737 is really old.
      On medium range the A220 is simply more economical. Also worth saying that both A320 and more so 737 have grew out of there original role. Very typically 737 that was a short range alternative to 707 while 727 was sort of a medium range. Now the largest 737 is pretty much the size of the largest 707.. with really only the larger cockpit of 707 making it longer. range is also pretty much on par.
      The fact is that 737 as well as the A320 have grew out of there role as short/medium haul shuttles.

      My point was not that A320 was a better aircraft, but that it had a better market position. A320 neo spans from 160-244 pax max while 737 max spans only from 172 to 230, making the A320neo both smaller as well as larger. On top of that, A320neo have the range advantage in the top end, where it really matters the most.
      Both Airbus and Boeing have had... or possibly still have, corruption issues. But for Boeing case, i really think its there management is more of a problem than Airbus is. Airbus is beating boing, not becasue airbus is doing well, but becasue boeing is doing poorly. Its worth saying in this case both how Boeing used government corruption to stop the A220 originally (when it was the C series) and how they almost broke Embraer with a very poor deal withdraw.
      As an engineer you are always worry that some component will fail and someone will die. And that is really regardless of what you are doing. A system i worked with (while doing it prior to i started working with it) failed during hurricane Katrina in the US, the failure of the system probobly killed a number of people that would have survived other-vice. While of cause, in a aircraft accident, its much easier to pinpoint exactly how many people where killed.
      Of cause, they want to keep the duopoly. If i was a conspiracy theorist.. that i really am not. I would have suggested that Boeing botch the situation for bombardier so Airbus could buy them up. Bombardier would have pretty much broken the duopoly.
      Nobody wants COMAC, well in the west. That is not only a Boeing or airbus thing.
      Boeing have left the lower and market wide open..And well airbus also until the bought the A220. Still this is a valuable market and Embraer have built over 1600 E-jet that have a capacity overlapping with A220. Superjet SSJ100 is also in production and is selling fairly well for a Russian aircraft. MC-21 is in production.. while.. Russian.. and well. they are not selling any aircraft to the west soon. Still its right on top of the neo and max.... more so than the C919 that is a tad smal.
      Its really sort of a semi duopoly

    From the payload range diagram of both aircraft, it indicates that both the B787-10 and A350-900 has very similar fuel burn per trip. Hence with it's larger capacity, the B787-10 offered higher RASM and lower CASM vs the A350-900. However with the introduction of the A350NPS, the A350-900 is able to seat just as many pax in the economy as the larger B787-10. This negated any passenger capacity advantage the B787-10 has against the A350-900 (B787-10 now only has the slight cargo advantage left). With the NPS, the A350-900 now not only offers higher RASM and lower CASM but also better takeoff performance and longer range vs the B787-10, should the airline choose to pack the economy class with 10 abreast seating.
    Likewise the NPS also has the same effects on the A350-1000. Previous analytic models suggest both B777-9 and A350-1000 will have the same per trip cost, hence the larger B777-9 will have higher RASM and lower CASM vs the A350-1000. With the NPS, the A350-1000 now offers higher RASM and lower CASM and also longer range vs the B777-9.
    Unfortunately for Boeing, both the B787 and B777X have already carved out their sidewalls to gain the CASM it offers today thus this improvement is no longer available for them. For Airbus it is merely a move to level the playing field.

      Well that just on paper, if they want the a350 10 abreast to be a threat to the 787-9/10ER they will need to make it standard , which it won't.
      Just like the self shading windows airbus is offering as an option ,yet most airlines don't show any interest in it .
      Those kind of windows are standard on the 787.
      The 9 abreast on the 787 is now standard , so airbus will need to convince airlines to make this even narrower seat standard on the a350 , which if they fail , newer variants of the 787 will continue to hurt sales of the a350.
      The 787 will still prevail because of the ability to serve both a330 and 777 routes with its multiple variants , hitting two birds with one stone , something the a350 can't do ..
      The ability to have one aircraft family that , could cover lower capacity long range routes with the 787-9/ 9LR and higher capacity routes with the 787-10/10ER will be most enticing.
      The fact that most airlines are now replacing their a330's with the 787-9 gives Boeing a better chance to offer the 787-10/ER due to fleet simplicity over the much cramped 10 abreast a350-900.
      That's why UNited are considering canceling their a350 order , due to Boeing development of the 787-10HGW and the fact that , they get massive cost savings from keeping the fleet simple
      Not developing the a350-800 , and instead sticking with the less competitive a330neo will turn out to backfire to airbus , because that's where Boeing will hurt airbus sales even for the a350( even with its 10 abreast)

My most nightmarish flight was in an LTE (Lufttransport Unternehmen España) 757 in 1995 from Larnaca to Düsseldorf where I had a window seat - with no window! Somehow, the seat in the middle of the plane was so badly placed, the window was at the back of the back rest! On top of that, I am inly a six footer and there was hardly any leg room. My knees kept banging the bacl of the seat in front of me. It was worse for the passenger beside me who was 6'4". He had to sit DIAGONALLY with legs bent to the side to fit into the seat! The pilot made a very steep landing approach which gave me a whanging ear-ache that lasted for hours after the landing! I was supposed to take a Cyprus Airways Airbus A-300, but the flight was cancelled due to engine problems (better cancel to be on the safe side than have a door or engine casing or wheel fall off...), which is why LTE. Thankfully enough, the on-biard catering served me a customarily delicious Cyprus Airways meal of excellent mousaka, Greek salad and desert, while my seat mate had to put up with two sandwiches of German grey bread (yes, Graubrot is awful and dry!) and wurst... The cyprus Airways flights with Airbus wide and narrow-body planes were worlds better! Even the flights on Fokker-Fairchild turboptops from Düssekdorf to London City airport with Belgian airlines, mot to mention the excellent Greek and Belgian service and friendly in-flight staff! It was the same with Lufthansa and Air Berlin flights, with German service being several levels below Cyprus Airways and VLM. The Boeings were uncomfortable while the Airbus flights - flights on ANY other aircraft were pleasant! The US government should nationalize Boeing! Corporate greed has gambled with too many lives in this corporation and destroyed a remarkable, iconic legacy company!

    The 350 is a great looking machine and performs very well for Airbus and the operators of the jet. That being said I don’t think Boeing really fears the 350 as the widebody market has always been their better market share both passenger and freighter wise. I think Boeings true fear is the aging 756 fleets and the growing 321 family taking their market share in the many 757’s needing replacement. While the 321ULR/XLR series aren’t near perfect replacements to the workhorse and overpowered machine that is the 75 Boeing hasn’t shown any effort to either re-engine or provide a modern replacement for that fleet.

    • @simonm1447

      Airbus develops a bigger wing at the moment for A 321s. With this wing (the 757 has 50 % bigger wings than the 737 or the A 320/321) a 321 Neo will come much closer to the capacity of the 757 than with the current smaller wing

    • @SidestickPilot
      @SidestickPilot Год назад

      @@simonm1447 performance still remains a big issue for the bus. It pales in comparison to the 75. Even with a more efficient wing it won’t be able to replace the 75’s route structure.

      @@SidestickPilot it don't has to have the same big 180 m2 wings, since new engines are more efficient.
      It seems even the Neos and LRs are not that bad, since they cross the Atlantic with the old wing.
      The last 757 was delivered in 2003 or 2004, so it's time for an aircraft which can replace it at least partially and Boeing has nothing to offer here

    • @SidestickPilot
      @SidestickPilot Год назад

      @@simonm1447 efficiency and performance are two different things. The bud can’t take off on short runways, hot and high airports, or with heavy loads and is easily weight restricted (just like the max). The 321 is not a 75 replacement. Wasn’t built to be one. You can make the 321 a very efficient airplane that can fit the capacity and range. But it will never be able to take off fully loaded on a 5,500’ runway and cross the pond.

    • @simonm1447
      @simonm1447 Год назад

      @@SidestickPilot you can get some of the specs - with bigger wings alone you can at least improve hot and high take offs, I assume a variant with a higher MTOW (for the 321 100 t is the limit), will get more powerful engines too. If you can come close to the 757 depends on the choice of engines.
      The last years I traveled to Ladakh (Himalaya, India) a couple of times, they have one of the highest airports with around 3500 m runway altitude. They always land there with 737s and A 320s, alongside with military aircraft like the C-17 or IL-76. I never saw a 757 there, it seems the performance of the normal narrowbodies is good enough there.
      The problem with too specialized aircraft (the 757 was quite specialized for hot and high) is you sacrifice other things to improve something you only need for niche cases. I don't think they will make the 321 version with the bigger wings exactly like the 757, they will rather improve the performance to cross the Atlantic with high payload than making it possible to take off with MTOW from high airports with short runways

    The Boeing 787 is a terrific airplane, and is selling really well. You cannot just say that it's not close in popularity to the A350. There are three different models of the 787 Dreamliner, and they're all amazing. You can't kill a company with the production of one airplane that seems to have more "appeal" then one can say. The A350 is a great development, but definitely not one to subdue a company like Boeing, who works well in their globalization efforts. It's just simply too big a company to bring down. IMO, we need Boeing, and it's amazing new developments.

    My feeling is that Airbus really hit the-sweet-spot with the A350 slotting in just under B777 while not fully competing with B787. Like B787 using composites coupled with the next-gen of RR Trent XWB`s they have an incredibly economical aircraft that can only improve over time. Airlines will look to the prospect of future fuel savings & will be well aware that a modest stretch of this aircraft along with the introduction of the geared turbo-fan ( RR UltraFan ) could possibly be an unbeatable combination for the long-haul market around 2028-30 onwards. With B777x delays still ongoing it makes A350 models current & future even more attractive.

    • @mmm0404
      @mmm0404 Год назад

      But the 777X is not Boeing's future , the 787 is . I wonder why people think the ultrafan will only be available for the a350. The 787 is currently the best selling wide body jet and it will continue to do so till the 2040's, RR will definitely not want to miss on that
      A modest stretch of the 787 too is not rulled out , and could allow Boeing to replace the 777 in the 300-400 segment while the 777-9/10 focus on the 400-450 segmet.
      Lots of people seem to underestimate the 787 but it is the biggest threat to the 350 program than the 777X
