One thing I expect from Labour: Even more privatisation of the NHS, with more taxpayers money leaving the country for US "Healthcare" corporations - thanks Wes! They already own most of the UK, why not finish the job.
Exactly! And, well covered by Aaron in Downstream Sunday past. Explosive!

I love Green manifesto, they are looking into the key issues to resolve which we are all currently struggling with. Free university tuition - no fees - no debt will create educated skilled communities and higher earners to pay into the tax system for NHS, and other public services. Economy will grow. Controlling extortionate rent prices which are unaffordable. Publicising energy, water companies which means subsidised energy water bills. Definitely vote 🗳 for Green.
I love the green manifesto!
I just hate the poverty porn the politicians use to try to engage with the public. All the I had it worse than him crap. Principles and empathy aren't only borne out of an impoverished childhood. And its just wasted air time - talk about leading us to a better place, not one upping each other's depictions of families and childhoods
I know!! I find it quite insulting because I don’t just care about money 🤣

How we built the UK after WW2 and the British Banks were broke in 1945.
One of the key challenges facing the UK in 1945 was the economic position of the country.
The national debt had risen from £760 million to £3500 million. Britain had spent close to £7 billion, or a quarter of the national wealth, on the war effort.
The UK was spending £2000 million a year abroad, while earning only £350 million in return. Loans from the USA were vital if the UK economy was to recover.
One in three houses had been destroyed by bombing whilst factories and shops had also been destroyed in large numbers.
Britain suffered 264,433 military and 60,595 civilian deaths during the war. Many others were physically and mentally scarred by the war and unable to resume normal life.
177 merchant ships and two-thirds of the Navy had been sunk, so food supplies were still a problem. Rationing remained in place for another 10 years. Income tax remained high to help the Government pay for the reconstruction.
This period saw the end of the British Empire. Its standing in the world had declined as it became impossible to contend with the economic might of the USA.
Wartime rationing had to be continued due to shortages of food and raw materials. This period in UK history is often called the Age of Austerity.
.
However, there was some hope because:
Virtually every adult was employed (full employment)
There was optimism of a better future due to the victory
There was a sense of change - as shown in the Labour election victory
Many accepted the end of the Empire
Yet, we rebuilt the UK and created the Welfare State.
The reason we survived is because of the Marshall Plan ie American money.
@@janharvey8876 In the war not after.
I think we should abolish Ofsted, to some extent at least.
As far as I know Finland doesn't have testing until 18, and they have the best education in the world.
Testing and Ofsted are different but yes Finland doesn't have either. Actually it's really interesting, instead of inspections they have a real focus on researching the best education methods, and sharing this knowledge among teachers, all of whom have at least a master's degree.
You mean repurpose it. Perhaps it's remit needs changing. Schools are a public body and require accountability.

Go the Greens, I will be voting for them.
Tax the rich.
Put the tax money into public services, civil infrastructure and small business grants.
It's not difficult to understand.
"Inequality. The rich get the assets, the poor get the debt, and then the poor have to pay there whole salary to the rich every year just to live in a house. The rich use that money to buy the rest of the assets from the middle class and then the problem gets worse every year. The middle class disappears, spending power disappears permanently from the economy, the rich becoming much richer and the poor, well, I guess they just die."

well, if they do, they cant take their assets with them, so.. if you're suggesting they will sell all their assets to leave the country to avoid tax on said assets, then guess what, that means the distressed sale of assets (also known as an end to the asset bubble) which would be beneficial to everyone else.

Really disagree with being anti-nuclear
no nuclear means no capped global warming. It is not a matter of opinion or political goals, the UK physically cannot reach net zero without nuclear power.
Keep the N W on hold, but accessible.
@@rabiarobertson6237 Nuclear power stations, not nuclear weapons*
@@bensblues We could solve climate change in 20 years if we just got on with nuclear power.
I appreciate wind is a great option for the UK, but nuclear helps, is safe, doesn't emit CO2, and is good for optics.
We need nuclear, wind, and solar.
Contact the green party to express your views.
Nuclear is just another unsustainable option. We need to produce as much wind, solar and tidal as we can and reduce our energy usage to that level. It is do-able. We have got used to wasting a lot of energy during the era of cheap oil but those days are gone now. The only decent future we can have on this planet will require a completely different way of interacting with our environment. Consumerism needs to end. Our growth dependent economic system needs to end. Then we will have enough energy to meet our needs without fossil fuels or nuclear.

Where in the manifesto does it say phasing out all Nuclear energy? I didn’t read that in the long version, it clearly stated end NEW developments, and yes it outlines what the Greens believe are not acceptable risks with existing Nuclear plants but it doesn’t say at this stage the agenda is to phase it all out.
Really good discussion, Im currently doing a masters in economics. Listing to Grace and reading her books, is very helpful.

The Sky TV thing might come from that Tory trope about how "shirkers" on benefits waste money on things like Sky TV, trainers, takeaways etc
... If only they cancelled their £19.99 a month Sky subscription they could afford to send their child to Winchester too, right??
Woohoo, Grace!
It's nice to hear these people talk about better services for citizens and against growing inequality. How different from the trash rhetoric of right-wing parties ❤
I can't believe how much effort you put into your content. It truly shines!
Its important to remember the government doesn't need to raise tax revenue before it can spend, In fact its the other way about; it must spend money into existence befroe there is any to tax back. Given that its of no importance if rich people flee the country to avoid paying tax, we dont need their money and their absence helps reduce inequality.
The richest 1% pay 28% of all income tax in the UK . In 1980 it was 8% !

So this the the Green Party of England and Wales making policy commitment for the UK?
you can tax the rich all you want - when ANYONE comes to power, they keep x amounts for themselves and their ever expanding bureaucracy and then the goals get looked at
On that energy policy stuff from the Greens, switching off nuclear is pointless and unhelpful. 70% wind by 2030 sounds good if it's actually possible in that time.
That would have been a rugby UNION player, Michael. Rugby LEAGUE players don't go to private schools! It wasn't the one they play at jolly old Twickers.
Why would people leave the country if they had to pay a bit more tax though? These people are rich as fuck i dont understand lol what can you even do with all that money? Id want LESS if i had that much not more. Hmm.

A great manifesto.
Let's take a wild guess: "tax the rich" - which makes zero sense at a time when government will looking to issue more government binds to bolster public spending, opposed to money creation via the central bank.
Oh yeah, let's heavily tax the group the government are ultimately borrowing money from...

Good fucking god
The universal £15ph min wage is barmy. From 21 perhaps but not from 17
The anti nuclear idea is also barmy; nuclear power is essential.
The wealth tax is unambitious, 1% on 10million should be more like 5% on 5million.
40% income tax threshold needs to be way higher, or at least make it 35%. £50k is no longer a high income
Capital gains thresholds and rates should be the same as income tax, a £12 grand allowance, then 20% on anything over.
It’s all a bit disappointing
I used to think that capital gains should be same as income tax but after working for small business where I have to sacrifice salary for shares. Which could end up resulting in nothing it seems unfair. There's so many risks with starting small businesses, which obviously everyone has the dream of selling it on. I don't get tax back if it fails but the government wants to share in any success. It also doesn't consider that I have had to sacrifice pay for years to try build it.
I also can't write off losses when investing in shares. Inherently capital gains and income are different and should be treated as such.
I understand you want to hit the really wealthy so set thresholds a lot higher for them then.
@@cup1966wow no you misunderstand me. CGT allowance is now only £3k. I’m saying to bring it in line with income tax of £12570. Two lots of £12570 is potentially enough to cover life’s essentials

@@cup1966wow CGT has a 10% bracket if I’m not mistaken, on anything over 3k and I’m saying that’s a bit mean
I like a lot of what the Greens say, I might very well vote for them. I like what the Workers Party of Britain say in their manifesto. I even like a small amount of what Farage and his Reform Party are pledging. But as it stands these 3 parties, kind of, have 3 MPs between them. For all the fuss George and Nigel get with the MSM, with all the love Novara and other left wing outlets give the Greens, will they achieve much more than that?
I expect all of the above will get a decent amount of votes, I also expect our wretched system will not reflect that in sitting Members of Parliament achieved.
We have a quasi democracy in Britain. It's better than the system the Chinese and Russians enjoy, but it's woefully inadequate in today's climate.
Greens need ambition to take over, like reform do, not just mess about on the edges

Also, it’s just dawned on me that I probably feel more comfortable with the Greens because of the sorts of things I was interested in from age five, 60 odd years ago, but which were treated with contempt by the other kids.
