Great work again Sam. Intuitively I know this arm side dominance is huge.Never considered a swing thought or the mechanics of it like that before. Can’t wait to trial it. At 55 I’m fighting a losing battle with my body in a war of attrition of keeping speed and know my only chance of success is technique over power. I’m assuming my good shots are incorporating more left arm influence and my poor shots are possibly due to right arm over powering left side while trying to go harder at it. I’m not a long hitter but a clean hit (280 m total not carry give or take ) on my shortish course is enough. The 30 - 50 metres I lose between pure and poor contact is huge to me. Playing an easy tempo sand wedge into a par 4 ( probably par 3’s in your eyes ) over a clean solid 7or 8 iron or reaching a par 5 in 2 is chalk and cheese a different game. You are helping me understand the fundamentals of a good golf swing. I spend most of my time heading north ( currently added 3 more shots ) and feeling like it will never click until the penny drops again with good advice. Confident this is the penny. The yet unrealised goal of scratch is once again rekindled thanks to your assistance. For me my confidence and enjoyment hinge a lot on my long game. Keep the jewels coming please mate
This is awesome! You are never too old to gain distance. Just how you said, it comes from technique over power. A few tweaks here and there and keeping your nervous system awake and firing with something like the Speed Toad will take you a long way! Keep at it!!
Back then, they were using the stiffest and heaviest setups and the only way to swing them even decently fast was to muscle the club over the top with your trail side. Completely different game nowadays with the technology advancing as well as the speeds being much, much higher.
For sure but have found it to be a better secondary piece once the left arm is working more efficiently. But this is dependent on grip. I.E. whether that extra speed is generated from ulnar/radial deviation or flexion and extension of the wrist. Many people with cause a rollover with right forearm rotation, not match the rotation to their grip, or apply it in the wrong spot which all cost speed vs increase it.
Sam - good stuff so thanks. My right arm swing is on average 10mph faster than my left and I’m figuring it’s because of the right wrist release at the bottom. There is no similar feeling with the left - am I missing something or just have to keep at it?
Right wrist firing without the left somewhat shows a possible rollover in your golf swing. Great for 1 arm speed, terrible for 2 arm speed. I'd have to see your swing to give any other info than that. You definitely should start to work on a release feeling of either ulnar/radial deviation in the left wrist or flexion and extension depending on your grip strength and delivery.
I think the key here from my experience is do not pull with the left arm at the top. Engage the left (lead arm) at the point when you in the slot and use the right arm to guide. My left arm always got me in trouble because that is what my trigger was from the top of the backswing. Reason being for me is i am left handed however shoot right
Good input. Pulling down and left with that left arm as the first move will cause major issues. I like how you said use the right arm as a guide. This swing thought may help many to find that position and apply speed at the correct part in their swing.
Great drill this corrected my slice
That's great always thought both arms worked equally..now I know and will add this to my training

Marcus a long driving champion teaches the right side overtaking the left it's funny how everyone has their own take no wonder we're all so confused 😕

Hi I'm enjoying your videos. Can you use alignment rods for speed work
Thanks! For swinging one handed or for aiming?
Right arm forearm rotation thru impact can add speed to the swing. Note....forearm rotation.

This is exactly what I do wrong if I feel as if the left hand pulls the right it’s a lot better result
