- On 30 June, the day before Hong Kong was handed over from the United Kingdom to the People's Republic of China, the tune was played by the silver and pipe bands from the Royal Hong Kong Police Force, at the departure of Hong Kong's 28th and last British Governor, Chris Patten, from his official residence, Government House, Hong Kong. It was also later played in the British Farewell Ceremony later that night when the last British troops of the Black Watch marched away from the Tamar, Hong Kong site.

This is the funeral of HK
Yes, many Hongkongers flee before the handover...
Sadest Auld Lang Syne......The real Hong Kong was ended that day
nah...the end of a drug pushing empire was ended that day
whilst I don't support the CCP for their human rights violations, I also don't think the brits are as squeaky clean as they make out...afterall, the genocide in gaza is being ignored by the british puppets of israel...as an MP you can't even ask for a ceasefire without getting fired
Wait, So The British DIDN'T Rule Over Hong Kong With An Iron Fist?
@@Lyrick1998 Wait,so you think the Chinese Communist iron fist is WEAKER than British?Come to HongKong now and you wil SEE
@@Lyrick1998 Hong Kong became a neoliberal experiment for the British, everyday life and the economy was not interfered with, HKers just didn't get to vote. Free in some ways, unfree in others
@@Lyrick1998being a british jewel is far better than being a chinese pet
It sounds like you cleaned this up, yeah? Thank you! I listen to the original every year on New Years. It captures the melancholy of the new year perfectly.
Also here on New Year's Eve, couldn't have said it better.
A slow march into a new year
Definitely the best live instrumental performed!
Anyone who comes from Hong Kong will always have a place in British
It was heavy rain fall scattered around the territory and no one could expect the what would happen in the future of Hong Kong. That moment the time has stopped, so sad 😞
Sadly one of the most loyal British Colony handovered when they actually more loyal and close to Great Britain than Communist China. Many Hongkongers flee to avoid the Chinese Communist Regime. Many Hongkong Elders cried when they heard the news about the death of Queen Elizabeth II, this shows the loyality of Hongkongers to the British Monarchy.... Remember, when they proudly waved the British Flag and sing "God Save The Queen" when they protested to the Chinese Regime.... Hongkong was a loyal colony
I am a Chinese born in the 80s in British Hong Kong . I cried the day Her Majesty passed away. The one and only Queen in my life . Hong Kong true and only majestic ruler . God save the Queen. May her noble soul rest in God’s caring hand .
Only when they are paid to do so. Now the fund is depleted. Nobody is gonna do that

I myself an Austrian, have 2 HK friends. The one, indeed an ethnic chinese, but britisher as a Brit,
took the handover personally and was deeply grieved
The other one, a typically pragmatic chinese, was not appalled about, but saw clearly,
that the days of autonomy were counted thereafter, altough the warranties...
In the last day of june with singing of the hk people, with rain, with sadness, happyness, the last second of british hong kong.
Apart from the first four drum hits, which are a bit desynchronised, this is definitely the best live instrumental version of Auld Lang Syne!
those two are the echo of the drums bouncing off the parade square
@@richarnold8951 indeed; mics aren’t always well tuned
I don't know man, it sounds far more better a bit desynchronized.
@@USSFFRU why, if I may ask?
@DukeofItaly1861 it sounds more authentic.
As a chinese, I have watched HK movies and love HK music since I was young, I feel very sad for HK's current situation.
top 10 most worst decisions that britain has ever made
they have no choice man That time British wa like Olding Lion since WW2
Britain had a 99 year lease. And China has a very large armed forces, and we have a greatly diminished and under invested gem of an armed forces left to whither on the vine. I'm afraid international law and pragmatism won.
They had a lease on the New Territories, not HK Island proper. But by the time the 1980’s came around much of HK’s industry was there. Plus China had a large army.
We should never have left hong Kong
Sadly I don’t think we had much of a choice
Either handover or war with china...your choice brits😂
We no choice, and war for 6 square miles wasn't smart or practical. Besides, colonies were passe in the 21st century.
i was British People I would have to accept this despite I not like it, The other Empire in past was struggle against time it would be better if we accept that The Fate Peacefully and yeah as You see British still there legacy was here despite you guy have do a lot of bad thing during Colonial but it normal of history and Nation
@@barry.b.bensonjrthe brits wouldve crushed china in a war, they just felt bad so they did a handover.
Free Hong Kong

I pray for Hong Kong to be freed from its horrible oppression and return to its former glory as a Filipino. Britain leaving was a terrible tragedy. Brothers against the CCP, forever and always. 🇵🇭❤️🇭🇰

My new fav... the slow version
It's honestly the best way to listen to Auld Lang Syne!
Had a Hong Konger tell me that, back then, they were so glad to be free of the British. Now they wish they were still British.
They were duped into believing China's lie that they would leave Hong Kong alone.
Sounds about right.
BNO holder is British
British gave them freedom and the rule of laws. Chinese give them hell..
Bull. the riot or revolution fell for a reason
This is the best version of Auld Lang Syne of ALL-TIMES. ❤Hong Kong
Fallen of Hong Kong😢
How emotional is this🥲🥲
Hong Kong was at least safe in the hands of the British now its future is uncertain... slowly being forced by the Chinese... but unfortunate as it is all good things must come to a end
After 99 years of borrowing Hong Kong, they gave my city/country back a long time,we are now good friends with England
Me too, but being good friends with England is kinda.. Meh.
Like, the British government interrupting the 23rd national security thing..
As a Hong Konger,I appreciate that the British treat us as their territories unlike the CCP treat us as their colonies

Calling a colony "democratic" is funny

@@redacted7060yeah uh what they said in the later years of the British empire more representation from the colonies were put in to place and the governor of HK was elected by democratic elections so and the British empire was more democratic then most of colonies that are independent now

Nasty colonialism
colonialism built HK, USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, all of Africa and all of south east Asia, along with all of Europe......colonialism built the world and was good
@@Mytheecolonialism is also the reason why there's so many conflicts.look at those straight lines
@@MytheeI hope someday your own country would be colonised.
You'll realise how it feels to see your own country under foreign occupation and being run by looters.
And as far as civilization is concerned, Asia and Africa, along with South America had thriving civilizations For thousands of years, while at the same time, people in Europe used to roam naked.
@@Mythee was it always good? no. was it ''nasty'? I don't think so, not necessarily. The circumstances of Hong Kong weren't the greatest, coming about only because the British wanted to keep China addicted to Indian opium, but they had much better democracy than they would have had if they had been continually ruled by China. So pros and cons, as with everything. Though I will say, imperialism and colonialism had a history of atrocities and slavery, which weights it towards not good, but for Hong Kong specifically, I don't think it is totally bad.
@@intentionalgamedesign1053 these terrible things arent because of imperialism or colonialism though, they arent factors that define the meaning of the 2 words, things such as slavery and exploitation was simply because people in the 1800s etc were just bad people in todays standards, but back then, if you owned a farm or a piece of land, the typical thing to do would be to buy people to work on it, sounds disgusting today, but thats just how it was back then
