I remember to have read when out of ammunition the Swiss attacked the enemy just with their bayonets. Not just once, but seven times.

This is assumed to be true, as found in Franco as well as Russian chronicles about that war.

it's easy to abstract from all the pain and horrors endured by the hundreds of thousand of the soldiers taking part in the catastrophic russian campaign of 1812. Partially a defense mechanism i guess. But this song brings everything back to the harsh reality of the situation and has made me so unbelievably melancholic, thinking of those half a million tragic destinies, many of them forced to partake in a battle of power hungry leaders and fight and suffer for no apparent reason. Thanks a lot for the lyrics and for letting one remember what one should never forget, as tragic as it might be.

As far as I know, the Swiss were mercenaries. No one forced them. They served for money in the army of Napoleon, who wanted to capture Russia. Maybe I'm wrong...

@@ЮлияБ-ю1п Swiss were Zwangsrekrutierte, or Forced into Military Service for France, Switzerland was occupied during 10 years by Napoleon several Swiss cantons fought battles against the napoleonic troops and after the napoleonic wars Switzerland had 40'000 Full-Orphans. Swiss were mercenaries for the French kings for centuries who paid em well and they kept the French countryside free of bandits and also protected France form several invasions but fighting for Napoleon in Russia wasn't what they had seeked for and Napoleon emptied also the prisons and many young un-married men were forced for minor crimes to join La Grande Armée.

I hate how G&B fans are invading the comments' sections of every single napoleonic song, like it's a good game but it's annoying when I just wanna enjoy a video, scroll down and see some guy yapping about how the fifer didn't save him when there was like 5 zombies behind him and also gets made when the fifer isn't playing.

If you like rock or metal music.
Try "Hearts of Iron" or "Final Solution" from Sabaton.
"Hearts of Iron" Is about the Battle of Berlin. Were the 12th army refused Hitler order to defend the city to the last man. And instead decided to evacuate Civilians and open an escape route. While being under heavy artillery fire and red army attacks. While the city is burning.
"Final Solution" is about the Holocaust.
