  • Arthritis causes hip pain with walking. Total hip replacement surgery often the best option after shots and pills fail to work. Minimally invasive hip replacement surgeries like Anterior and SuperPATH have replaced the traditional approach. These surgeries are minimally invasive, but they still are surgery. A good recovery is essential! For the first four weeks after total hip replacement surgery, your main activity is walking. We covered weeks 4-8 in a prior video. Here Dr. Amy and Ashley discuss the exercises you need to be doing to strengthen the muscles around your new hip 8-12 weeks after surgery. Physical therapy is not required after anterior or superPATH total hip replacement. However, you need to do your part to get the best result possible. That means getting as strong as you can to help your new hip. A follow-up video for weeks 12 and on is your next stop!

Good exercise tips. I had both hips replaced under a year ago. I do regular exercising daily. How do you distinguish muscle soreness from pain? They both hurt.

Everyone shows slide leg lifts but no one has a table. How do you get down and up from the floor correctly?

Exercise #3, on a step bending knee and lowering the other leg towards the floor. The actual lifting would be on the operated hip leg?

That's odd... these exercises are not typically painful. Have you seen your surgeon?

Be carefull with variation of #4 exercise bending your foot above knee level. The rest should be ok. I had the same surgery a month ago and I'm able to do all of them without significant pain

6 weeks after total hip replacement due to a fall my groin is very painful. I think at about 4 weeks I did to much physical therapy. I also have a Prosthetic leg on that same side I don’t see my surgeon until March 16, 2022. Any advice? Thanks I love your videos.
