I will not stand for Sharly slander. She is known to have a 100% accuracy rate in her predictions so being freaked out by the destruction of their whole-ass homeland would obviously freak her out. And even then she just suggested detaining, interrogating, or expelling them as a precaution, a perfectly reasonable way to respond to that murky prediction and honestly a reasonable way to treat pirates in general. Also the princes caused a misunderstanding before she even made that prediction by pulling up with an army without explaining they were passing on a message from Jinbei. Also also, Caribou kidnapping mermaids while nobody even knew he was there definitely added some confusion to the overall narrative. And most importantly, neither she nor the royal family had any way of knowing that Hordy and Decken would show up and make things more complicated. And she even manages to turn her fortune around and throw it in Hordy's face. She deserves respect for that.

I actually really like this arc and everything, but I do think shirley's predictions could've been set up more. They basically just tell you her predictions are always right, and give an example, and leave it at that. Oda should've done more to set up this ability she has so the viewers buy into it more.

There are always uncertainties, and usually, the people who know the fortune try to avoid it and inevitably bring it into being. That's classic Oracle BS 101. Jinbei’s big issue was you can’t just have a bunch of humans, semi famous in the country for beating a group of Fishmen, come in and stomp on the new group of Fishmen causing problems. That’s a temporary fix that only reinforces the idea that humans are there to put down fishmen who rise up. But by getting the people to ask for a humans help? That’s different. That’s a human helping people out, not one imposing their will. That’s the big difference Jinbei wanted.
I feel like we really didn't need to see it. Nami is able to forgive hatchi. We already know she's not gonna care about someone who had nothing to do with arlong's actions who just so happened to be blood related.

The backstory of Arlong and Shyarly was given in the question corners of the manga by Oda himself, so I'll share it as well: Arlong basically had a deadbeat dad that left him to fend for himself and when he was 15 his dad came back, dumped Shyarly, the child of another relationship of his, on him and left again. So she's Arlong's half-sister.

That animation where Luffy kicks Hody is done by Naotoshi Shida, it's very recognizable by the aquatic like fluidity of the surroundings and how crispy the movements are... this animator does an amazing job in Dragon Ball Super and Super movies as well. PS: Remember the scene at the Marineford War, when Jimbe throws the sea current at the plaza and Luffy emerges from it to face the Admirals? That's done by Naotoshi.

I actually really like this arc and everything, but I do think shirley's predictions could've been set up more. They basically just tell you her predictions are always right, and give an example, and leave it at that. Oda should've done more to set up this ability she has so the viewers buy into it more.

And this doesn't really have much to do with Shirley anyways. And I already said why she (and a lot more people than just her), don't initially like Shirley. The plotline about her future predictions automatically feel like bs for multiple reasons that I already listed, and then it becomes less of a search for "why would luffy end up doing that?" And more of a search for "okay this is obviously not gonna be true, so what part is the misunderstanding?" LOL
And that makes it a lot less engaging and interesting than intended. Luckily tho, Alicia does accept the possibility that the prediction could possibly be true, but initially its very very understandable to highly doubt her and even dislike her as a character since she feels like she causes unnecessary obstacles in the plot.
Personally I like Shirley NOW, but I can 100% understand anyone who dislikes her.

The problem with Shyarly's prediction is she assumes the events will be soon. She's probably right of the event itself. Oda does seem to love giving us unexpected scenarios. And I bet some of the less focused parts of the arc will be relevant later especially with a reveal in the late chapters of what's to come.
It makes sence of why she thinks it will happen now, it seems convenient because luffy and the straw hats are at fishman island. Thr crystal ball predicted that luffy would destroy fishman island. It didn’t say when. It will happen no matter what. It will eventually be destroyed by luffy, but likely for a good reason or by accident.

Jinbei’s big issue was you can’t just have a bunch of humans, semi famous in the country for beating a group of Fishmen, come in and stomp on the new group of Fishmen causing problems. That’s a temporary fix that only reinforces the idea that humans are there to put down fishmen who rise up.
But by getting the people to ask for a humans help? That’s different. That’s a human helping people out, not one imposing their will. That’s the big difference Jinbei wanted.

I love how Luffy just tells everyone to decide for themselves if he’s friend or foe. He’s not going to pretend to be someone he’s not.

The backstory of Arlong and Shyarly was given in the question corners of the manga by Oda himself, so I'll share it as well:
Arlong basically had a deadbeat dad that left him to fend for himself and when he was 15 his dad came back, dumped Shyarly, the child of another relationship of his, on him and left again. So she's Arlong's half-sister.

That animation where Luffy kicks Hody is done by Naotoshi Shida, it's very recognizable by the aquatic like fluidity of the surroundings and how crispy the movements are... this animator does an amazing job in Dragon Ball Super and Super movies as well.
PS: Remember the scene at the Marineford War, when Jimbe throws the sea current at the plaza and Luffy emerges from it to face the Admirals? That's done by Naotoshi.

I think we need to remember that this is mostly ridiculous because of the art style. I always got the impression that Sharly's prediction was based more on Luffy if he acted on his own like he usually does. If he didn't have Jinbei to rein him in and properly guide him, then Fishman Island probably would have gone down in flames, in a sense.
Actually, probably not. Thats not how it works with her (or at least it never has). Its not like Hawkins who gets probabilities that he can use to guide his actions. Shyarly just gets the facts. The details aren't always clear, but Luffy (or someone who looks just like him, I suppose) being responsible for Fishman Islands destruction is an absolute. Can't be changed. The context might not be what she was fearing it was, but it will happen at some point. 🤷♂️

I love that bad disguises and obvious traps work so well in One Piece, even when it's absolutely silly and obviously a visual gag.
My grandma would pull that stuff your uncle did. Every illness, every thing she had to try and top it. Visiting relatives in hospice and she's just "yeah they're suffering but my fibromyalgia is so bad today, I'm actually worse off."
