My feelings exactly!.. i know it may sound morbid but my boy was cremated and to this day i keep his ashes to be added into my own casket! He saved my life, he was my best friend and he was the son i never had!
I rescued one once. He wasn’t the easiest dog because his former owners had taught him to attack on command “kill” and you might be surprised how many teenagers point to someone and say kill when they see a GSD. He adored me and was afraid of being taken away from me so I had to keep a muzzle handy in case anyone wanted to pet him. But he was the love of my life and only one other dog came close. I think that they are both friends together now watching over me.
my german shepherd taught me the true meaning of unconditional love, the most valuable lesson in the world, and he didn't have to ever speak a word. funny how an animal can do that but a human being with a whole vocabulary would never be able to. my dog changed my entire life. his love transcended all. the german shepherd is a precioua gift on this earth who will love you with a fierceness you couldnt ever fathom that you even deserve.
Got mine out of a shelter for strays . 3 year old full grown girl that was afraid and lonesome . She follows me everywhere and loves me like there’s no tomorrow . Same for me . Best dog I ever had . Gentle and warm like a sunbeam after a long winter .
Had one... working genetics 🧬 he was our world. Went absolutely everywhere...ride the bow of ski boat. The jetski. The motor bike. And was a fantastic farm dog with the sheep 🐑 Even in to the bank and would hang out with the manager... She would say he cleaned up the clients as the shady ones wouldn't come in... All 54Kg of him. Rip big boy. 19yrs of fun it was.
Do your research. Make sure you have time for them. They can be headstrong, but they are also very sensitive. They require a firm hand, but never too firm! Just do your homework. The last thing I want to see is another GSD in a shelter, and no one wants because they’re afraid of them.
I 100% agree with DdD. Short version: I used to rescue dogs in a village I lived in, to find homes or humane society. I picked up a 4 month old GSD. He was terrified to be touched. I fell in love but unfortunately I wasn't dog smart for training. If GSDs weren't so smart we would've been screwed. He wasn't head strong though because he had never been loved and was still young. He wanted to please. 4 years later and it was so worth it. If you do get one you won't regret it. Best of luck. Not so short, eh?
I'm dog sitting/training one. I used to foster for Samoyeds and Huskies, I have to admit these are pretty good dogs. Pulls worse on leash than a Samoyed does though, and Samoyeds are sledding dogs.. Smarter than a Samoyed, not quite as affectionate as one, dumber (thankfully) than a Border Collie - BC's are too smart for me. BC's are great dogs too, I'm just not a good enough owner to have one, I fostered for them too, for a bit. They deserve a better owner than me. Much easier than a Samoyed too. EASY to bathe and EASY to comb out. That's not true at all of a Samoyed. I have this GSD for 3 more days, it's been an enjoyable time.
absolutely!!! I had the privilege of having 3 German shepherds in my life at diff times. Beautiful loyal breed and dedicated to their owner!! we played, slept and ate together!! so smart and regal!!! they always make you happy and look great!!! cherish yours. he's beautiful!!
Protection (& no privacy) Story (& it is true!) a pair of friends of mine got married, both owned GS. about 2 months later she got pregnant. Just before the end of her first trimester, their German Shepards realized this! She was allowed work from home (pre CoVid) and her dog would ALWAYS be in the bathroom. and if she was "sitting down" "her girl" would be between her feet facing the door. She told her husband this.... Soon afterwards, while being protected while using the toilet, she heard her husband laughing in the hallway. She asked what was happening. Turns out "his boy" was sitting against the bathroom door, alert, and guarding it!! Neither one was trained to do this, but when "Mommy" was in "a delicate condition" they were ready to take on Any and EVERY Threat to her!!! And yes, their first born child has two sleeping companions... Since they figure she is the most vulnerable now!
True mine is shedding more than my maluski.. Before I got my gsd I used to 'complain' that my mostly dark malusky only dropped white hairs and that I never saw dark hair.. now I gotta clean at least 2 times a day or else there's dark hair and tumbleweeds everywhere the next day
Same here! I have two shepherds. I always laugh when I see their heads peeking around the corner wherever I go😭. I heard they do this in order to keep an eye on their owner and make sure they are safe at all times.

I love mine with all my heart! He gets on my last nerve with his chirping sometimes, but I wouldn’t trade him for anything! He’s been a loyal friend and an amazing protector to me and my kids ❤ I’ll never own anything other than this breed (minus the stray dogs I find on the side of the road)
Not quite. They tend to be dominant, need to train them young. If you get one and expect to be sweet and gentle( not saying that there aren t cases) you might be suprised. They're great dogs, I grew up with one.❤
German Shepherds are the absolute best!! Wonderful caretakers of every being in their orbit! Mine used to babysit the cat's kittens and keep them herded lol. Sooo sweet and funny!
If they're scared or protecting something, they can be the second most vicious animal on earth. But the same dog would let a baby in the family pull his ears without even reacting.
It takes the police two to three years to fully train them to be security dog. And even then they have to make them think its all a game by using tug toys. Pet GSDs who are trained properly and have lots of exercise and activities are NOT security dogs but loyal, goofy fireballs. Mine is terrified of cats and was once chased by a fox!
German shepherds are the best overall and all around dog you'll ever find. They do all of the standard dog stuff very well and they are so damned handsome as well.
