The heaviest band around that time: No light show, no video installations, no gimmicks - just pure volume and energy that blows everyone else off the stage
The BEST live band in rock for decades. I first saw them play this song in 1967 at Southfield High School (Yeah, I said "High School"!) in Southfield, Michigan. An act named "The Amboy Dukes" featuring a guy named Ted Nugent on guitar opened the show. I had seen The Who first at Atwood Stadium in Flint, Michigan. It was Moon's 21st birthday. The Blues Magoos opened, followed by The Who, but the main act was...wait for it...Herman's Hermits!
The WHO absolutely loved playing in Detroit and the surrounding areas. I've seen them a number of times since the '60s. Pete once said "if you're going to make it in rock n roll the Detroit audience has got to love you." Oh yeah.
@@abjr2010It was Noonan who drove a Cadillac into a Holiday Inn swimming pool. ALL of those guys were wild...As an aside, RIP to Famous Amos who got his start baking cookies as a road manager. For Led Zeppelin among others. Wonder what the secret ingredients were?
Pic in our rather shabby 'Magic Bus' in Interlaken, Switzerland, heading back to England in the summer of '70. After a week in Amsterdam England was a holiday...
THE WHO HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST LIVE BANDS OF ALL TIME!! This LIVE VERSION OF "THE MAGIC BUS" IS FRICKING AWESOME!!, the dj (P.S. plus you know Townshend is just gonna trash the stage at the end)
Excellent...total jamm out...recorded perfectly...KEITH MOON,,,supremo....and now JOHN....BAD ASS BASS......see you guys on the otherside......THANK YOU 4 THE GREAT MUSIC AND TIMES.....
That Guitar at 3:45 is unbelievable The Reverb and the chord progression are great for a huge live audience Wish he could have played that a couple minutes longer
at 4:30 Pete smashes what i think is a foot pedal called a Super-Fuzz. The end of Magic Bus here is anything but magic. I have the same Super-Fuzz (an antique really) and it is a piece of shit but i can't afford to smash like Pete does here.
Anyone notice the overdubbed guitar at 3:55? Its not on the cd version. Pete damaged something around 3:30, and couldn't get full power back. Proceeds to smash the fuzz box at 4:30. Damn, he's pissed!
My Starsign is Aries which is governed by the MOON - I knew I was here to be a drummer when I was 3 years old. The fire was lit by Keith - I knew I could do that and did, professionally from 1985 on. I am still a drummer at nearly twice that age of Keith when he left us.....
Anybody ever noticed about 20secs in looks like shooting starts or light shooting around in the night sky I've got this on dvd I'm gonna check it I reckon it's definitely because of a higher transmission of music and consciousness long live the who

A question for the electric guitar experts: Just curious, what sort of technical problem was Pete having near the end of Magic Bus, and what was that piece of equipment he picked up and threw to the ground in anger?
3:45 The Hiwatt amplifier. A marvel of British Engineering and could literally peel the paint off of a fucking wall.
The heaviest band around that time: No light show, no video installations, no gimmicks - just pure volume and energy that blows everyone else off the stage
no one, i mean no one will ever surpass the who live and songwriting wise.
I was there. Took photos of them. Fantastic 3 days of music

The Who is the Best Band ever ...! I Love how Roger play the armonica... :)
How was possible that "only" 4 guys could be so powerful and loud!!!
Fantastic musical ability...... and MARSHALL amps, yo! ;-)
@@kewlbreez77 they were actually hiwatt amps Marshall couldn't get that loud
Yes but do they go to 11?
Rush was only 3.
Cream were 3
Sabbath were 4
They both had a super powerful prescense
they were so good live. i was at the 9-11 concert for heros. cannot describe the emotion and love for that band that night. GOD BLESS THE WHO
Hard to imagine a better band (of ANY generation) LIVE.
Sabbath
@@sotis1756 lol Sabbath
Yep..

Nelson Manfella: thanks for posting. Happy Birthday to(March 1) to Roger Daltrey. Cheers! 🥨
This intro is pure magic. Wish I could've been there! Is it possible to have nostalgic feelings for a time you haven't even witnessed? Must be so!!
Yes! There's a word for that feeling it's a Portugese word: saudade - love that!
I was there. Two hours of solid rock music from 2 to 4 AM. Hugh spotlights going out over the audience - you weren't going to fall asleep - LOL
The definition of rock and roll is this song
This version doesn't mess around: straight into Maximum R&B
correct, had to compensate of the qlizer
This version of Magic Bus it’s perfection it doesn’t get better
I think it's impossible not to like the Who !!

Huh, I never realized that it was Entwistle's backing vocals I liked. I always assumed he was Townsend.
Entwistle always took the higher backing parts back then, such a great contrast to the role of his instrument

Mooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!!!
Crazy fuck Moon with cool cat John keeping him under somewhat control. Lol

So tight as a group … no passengers on this “bus” just an epic performance 🎸
Johns bass is like thunder !

Oh I was wondering about why it was cut short!
Fuckin' Keith!! Seriously Pete, do NOT get him started!!!
Too late.
Abbey 72 The feelings those guys would have at some of those concerts had to be a bit overwhelming at times.
Like they said.....waaaaaaay louder than a 747 taking off!
I always enjoyed watching Moon smashing them drums, only John always laid back played awesome together.
Happy bday moonie love u
@NJ1810 I hear ya. Thats the one gig I would love to have witnessed the most, truly epic

That is great. Moons rhythmic prowess never ceases to amaze me.
Always felt sorry for John playing this, must have been bored shitless. G, G, G, G......
All over the shop compared to the awesome Live At Leeds version.

lol he had a nice relaxed set!
Most of their live versions vary show to show.
Best who tune ever everything is tight
beyond epic!
one of the top 5 videos on youtube
That’s the greatest guitar tone I’ve ever heard. CP103 + P90s
+ Univox Superfuzz
I thought it was a DR103?
@@ZoSo1973 Nope. Pete used CP-103s, which are a different tone stack than the traditional DR-103.
pure classic rock and roll yes, I love it
I was there a young hippie girl hitching my way around Europe...with no money but we had a blast....
un groupe comme on en fait plus
Nice socks Pete.
Rock that SG!
Hey who hell cares if P.T. looks like he just got off work from the steel factory in those coveralls, this is a bad ass song!
There goes the superfuzz😜
4:28, I guess his Univox broke...
magic noise !
This is definatly the bet version of this song. Blows Live at Leeds away.
I like this a lot: its the real thing: not the airbrushed 'lEGACY PLATINUM FIVE CD SIGNED EDITION' crapola.
The Who was one of those bands who sounded better live than in the studio. Specially in the late 60's. Nowadays it is, well, meh.
Unfortunately, I wasn't born yet when this amazing concert happen.
No Band comes close to THE WHO live
I hate to agree with u on this one, except for a Led Zep concert you will never see on the tube
@@XMIR10Clol zeppelin ? Zeppelin were terrible live only a handful of stuff were ever good. The who were better live band than zeppelin
Never too much Magic Bus for me!!!! Packit!!!!!

Country pickers would give an eye tooth to have a glint of one of Pete’s little twangs he throws in for spice before blowing your face off
5:23 Driving the same cars and Keitn : wtf? Pet: your fired your fired :V
#WHO
Wonder why they didn't play all the verses, or something more like Live at Leeds?
just4music Pete’s guitar had malfunctioned after he threw it and it wasn’t playing as loud as previously
Man, Pete's guitar tone back then was godly.
we wont get fooled again
A question for the electric guitar experts: Just curious, what sort of technical problem was Pete having near the end of Magic Bus, and what was that piece of equipment he picked up and threw to the ground in anger?
Something was going on with his fuzz pedal. That's what he threw down at the end...the legendary Univox Superfuzz.
Keith always hated hi-hats.
