Very interesting, even for an old man. One stick category of sticks I like, similar to Promark Active grip are Dipsticks, I have several signature modes made by Zildjian & Vic Firth. Well done, thank you
Also, a very light stick, like Sheila E, (she changed companies) but it can be used for drums as well as timbales. Dents easily, but versatile. Thank you again. Explaining things I should have but did not know.
As of right now the Vic Firth Grip sticks are a favorite of mine. 5a nylon tips are the perfect weight for me. Also a similar stick is the Vater 7a nylon Manhattans. I put grip tape on these and they feel amazing and are basically the same size as a 5a Vic firth but a better tip in my opinion and they last long possibly more than a Vic firth and $4 a pair cheaper!
All 3 brands have some great sticks. It's all about your style, wrist and hand strength and which sticks feel the best. I've packed or given away all of my Promark sticks and loaded up with Vater and use Vic Grips. Definitely durable and way cheaper in price and very comfortable. I never had a bad Vic firth stick except for a few Tear drop tips cracked prematurely. Promark has gone down hill in my opinion but are the most expensive sticks out there .

it's funny that you said to check out your favorite drummer's sticks. I was on a hunt for some skinny, heavy, nylon piped sticks. It seemed that what I wanted just was not made. My main influence has always been Lars Ulrich of Metallica. I bought his ahead signature sticks just because they were his, not expecting to like them. When I started playing with them, they were perfect! They're all I've used since. Thanks for making this. It helped my son pick out some good sticks.
I use Vic Firth pro Mark zildjin vater and regal tip I like the length of 1516 and 17 inches long and I love wood tips Such as barrel tips oval tips and teardrop tips And I like nylon tips A little bit And I like the darker sounds more

The first sticks I had were Ziljian Dave Grohl Signatures (42.5cm, 1.52cm) and when I bought my first pair of Vic Firth 5As I could instantly play my kit faster, because they were way lighter, shorter and thinner, so 5As really did magic to my playing. Tho whenever I pick these Dave Grohl signatures up again they seem so heavy and unplayable to me. I wonder why Dave prefers these, tho I guess it's simply preference.
Because more weight = more volume and fullness. I use 2B to play grindcore and I'd like to try something even more heavier. Are you a jazz player?
@@lovecraftmusic8717 I play mainly grunge, every kinds of rock and some metal. Today I play Promarks 5As, which are a bit thinner than Vic Firths 5As. And my second fav sticks are even 1As. Idk I just like thinner sticks, it's easier to play grace notes and they feel a lot better in my hand.
@@joandrumz3176 got it...the tip is also important for the same reason: more surface = more volume, round, full sound (barrel tip); ball tip will give you a bright clean sound, especially on cymbals. In metal it's used an oval or barrel nylon tip for body and volume with extra brightness and definition.

I’m currently using Vic firth 7a sticks and I play fast punk. I got them coz the lightness but then I have to try really hard to hit hard because they have no weight behind them….what would you suggest? Or should I just work out my arm muscles? Thanks
New to the drumming world I don't have much experience with drumsticks but I've tried vic firth zildjian primark vater with what I've been playing so far I do prefer the promark 5a sticks and I like the Vater 5a sticks like the feel of both of them
I’ve been drumming for a year and have never tried anything above 2B really I would really like to to see how they feel. I myself use vaters and Vic firths. They both feel great!
I’ve never used promark though I will have to try them out.
@@yeetfeet1878 Give them a shot..but I warn you,the bigger sticks will break your drum heads and cymbals and you lose feel with the heavier ones..just my opinion
@@CrazyLG72 thanks for your advice! I will probably try out Mike Portnoy’s signature promarks or just a normal 5A. Probably Mike Portnoy’s as he is one of my favorite drummers!
@@yeetfeet1878 I got 3 pairs of those last year, another great stick..only negative thing about those are my sticks grinded down like tooth picks,very thin but never broke and I play 60s 70s classic rock ,not a hard hitter..But they feel great

7A is lighter (and thinner) than 5A

Hickory sticks are the best feeling in the hand,maple split apart quickly,japanese oak sticks have warning labels with words like misuse ,dangerous fatal,injury-yikes-will crack cymbals as well as skulls.3A are super well balanced and in wood tip variety sound nice with cymbal stick definition.the new vic firth "terra" type sticks are really durable and well made,Vater are cheaper and very consistant,anyone know about swedish brand WINCENT?-want to try,also INNOVATIVE PERCUSSION sticks are really good and good price

Ive had this pair of sticks that i believe are made of oak and are really heavy and pretty thin, Ive had them for years and i hit e x t r e m e l y hard and they still havent even started trying to split.. I cannot for the life of me figure out what they are because the label has worn off of them but i still use them cuz i cant find another pair like em lol.
I'm playing Travis Barker Sticks from Zildjian and those sticks are the best selling sticks that Zildjian makes because Travis is a huge inspiration to play the drums when he played with blink-182, transplants, The Aquabats and he did recently of Drums of Machine Gun Kelly album Tickets To My Downfall. When I played his sticks that I'd do play like his sticks when he hits hard on drums and cymbals. Those sticks will last forever not gonna lie but I'm breaking other sticks brands about 2/3 months and Travis's sticks I think I broke 4 sticks about least 1/2 months because his sticks are durable and these are my go to sticks.

How could a drum stick be bend and need to be rolled out in a flat surface, that would be an awkward thing to do in a store.... All branded drumsticks are factory made... Maybe ur talking about the profile shape....is it really necessary to point out....sorry just got my attention....nice content by the way...
