    I read the Ashby study recently, focusing primarily on the FOC sections. Penetration aside, FOC also provides great improvements to flight characteristics, makes fletching more effective, and can allow smaller fletching to achieve similar control of the arrow due to the benefits of the longer rear lever arm. Ashby was a bright human. Thanks for great content.

    My boys and I switched to Adult Arrows this year after watching your videos. It was a very successful season. We all went at least 650 grains and GrizzlyStik single bevels. Every deer dropped within 40 yards and some dropped in their tracks! Shot angle wasn't an issue. Thank you again for convincing me to make the switch after 30+ years of slinging Twizzlers.

      Not gonna do that.
      At least not gonna do the whole video over this one is about rotation.
      Simple machine
      Anyway - measuring force on a potato or gel, or wood or water is only as good at the medium you test. It’s literally that test for that exact medium.
      Animals are multiple mediums as the arrow passes through whatever it hits.

I think measuring the force of the three broadhead types insertion force might produce evidence that one type is superior for penetration. The less effort being superior. Ethics has the spinning 2.0 now jw about your up to date thoughts? Btw shot an 8pt at 10 yds at 130pm last year with the ez v and my 200 Evo through one shoulder and the ONLY reason it didn't pass through was because the as the deer turned the head entered the back side of the opposite shoulder. Had it stayed perpendicular it would of been a complete pass through. Deer ran maybe 40 yds. Have pics from my butcher if interested. He was amazed at the dmage done. Also my bareshafts fly like lasers.. sharpening is tricky but im getting better every time.. Ive never felt such confidence with my bow. So a single bevel adds the torque to break bone that double bevels can’t do. And a 3 blade separates soft tissue like a 2 blade can’t. So all other things being equal, would a single bevel 3 blade outmatch a single bevel 2 blade?

    There's one thing though, when the single bevel broadhead flies through air, and later when it goes through flesh, the single bevel design makes the head rotate, both in air and in flesh. And this rotation expands energy that was transfered to the arrow during a shot, which means that less energy is left to push the arrow forward. This is not critical for high end super fast bows, but with slower bows the penetration can be less than with double bevel.

    I would love to see a similar experiment with a triple analog system. Let me explain. For a push-through test as you are doing here, I would love to see a similar experiment with a more indicative tissue analog, i.e., a pork, beef, or even better, venison meat, because potato or any other cellulose/starchy material will split in a way not necessarily indicative of meat tissue. Second, I would love to see a bone-in example, where a ham, rib, scapula, humerus, or other similar high-probability shot is modelled with a bone in cut of meat, so we can get a good idea of bone splitting and meat channelling. Thirdly, a transparent ballistic gel medium, so that a good visual of the amount of spin for each respective bevel angle and the diameter of the wound channel for each broadhead and penetration differentials for each style may be ascertained. Thanks for letting me opine on your video! It was very informative still 😋

    Great video Troy - thanks for doing this - No disrespect to Dr Ed or to you but a question - I am but a lowly beginner with a recurve barebow - a certifiable nut with rifles😀 - the question - aside from the obvious and not debatable single bevel rotation advantage - Is there significant advantage with the Tuffhead due to it's much larger diameter at the ferrule and the long gentle taper leading up to this larger diameter? I noted that the other broadheads had barely shaft diameter at the ferrule - I.E. Is there a significant contribution to the bone splitting advantage due to the increased ferrule diameter? Do you actually think you're the only one to investigate a hit on game? I've shot a ton of game with old Grizzlies and more recently cutthroats, Crappiest blood trails ever and yes I've taken a look when there were crappy blood trails.
      But hey, folks can read up on all "opinions" and then choose whatever they like, after a few years they can decide for themselves what works best. I have helped track way to many liver or gut hit deer, elk, antelope to ever think single bevels are "better" than double beveled or 3/4 blade broadheads.

    Now do that test thing with same shape broadheads, where beveling is only difference. I thing VPA makes 2 blade with single and double bevel. Tuffheaad is so much more massive that it’s easy to say that the size of the broadhead makes the extra damage.

      He has a video of that. If you look up something like "quartering to" or "quartering in" shots, it's all there. A lot of THP hunts are shown. It's a 5 part series if inremember correctly

    Pretty late to the game on this video, you said a 3 blade is 3 double bevels. Have you ever thought of or even seen a 3 blade single bevel? I'd imagine the would be gnarly

    • @RanchFairy
      @RanchFairy  Год назад

      So they exist. With one HUGE WEAKNESS
      The blades are on their own plane. Just like all 3 blades. Also IMPOSSIBLE to sharpen.
      2 blade single bevels have a blade doing the same work in the same direction 180 degrees on the other side.

    without measuring the force (that would indicated the resistance) this "test" is totally meaningless. The Tuffhead has by far the smallest penetration compared to the 3-blade and the 2-blade. Lusk archery did testing with all these BHs and the penetration of the Tuffhead is pathetic compared to 3-blades.

    • @RanchFairy
      @RanchFairy  2 года назад +1

      Well if I was talking about penetration your lusk love would matter. But your monocular bend and trying to restate what I was showing is normal for the comments section.
      As a penetration balance to Mr Lusks efforts may I introduce a 27 YEAR study known as the ashby reports?
      That is if you can read with an open mind.
      If not, never mind.
      You already have it all figured out. No reason to watch any more fairy dust. He’s an idiot anyway.

    • @WM-jy9dz
      @WM-jy9dz 2 года назад +1

      @@RanchFairy ...most of the BHs we have today haven't been available 27 years ago, so Ashby had to use what was available and appropriate at the time. Shoot your 27 years old BHs with an old bow from this time 27 years ago and keep believing that such a setup will outperform a modern bow and a modern BH from today. Ashby limited his studies to relative short distances as it was unthinkable at the time that you could achieve a momentum over 0.6 pounds*sec with a bow and a relatively light arrow and still hit an apple at 50 meters.
