  • Machine works fine but as you can hear there is a knocking noise on spin. Bearings seem sound, suspension isn't twisted, motor bearings ok and weight bolts all seem tight. Any ideas would be welcome as have retired it temporarily awaiting repair. Only thing I can think of is cracked spider?

Had a feeling that might be next idea. Do you think it may be easier to so a tub transplant rather than a rebuild? I would like to get one of the classic Hoover machines refurbished so I could use them as a daily driver but it would need to be reliable as it will get heavy use.

Before you consider that check the heater brackets as Rob mentioned, Mathew actually changed the heater to a smaller one on the A3112 for that issue - But yours sounds louder and different. You do have to consider wether using a Classic / Vintage washer is worthwhile for heavy use unless you can repair yourself or have access to a fast repair service, after all these machines are 30yrs old.

Sounds like it could be a cracked / damaged inner drum spider, perhaps one of the spokes rotted or broken ?
