    Greetings from Serbia. Thank you for the video, I'm sorry that you received damaged goods, who knows what happened there, but take my word for it that type of plastic is quite durable and resistant. I have been using my kit for over 20 years.

      Hello my friend. Greetings from the United States. That is good to hear. My impression was that perhaps the plastic had aged and became brittle, but obviously, I need to take the mess kit out I'm the woods a few times and test it out.
      Thanks for watching.

    I have one of those kits also. Mine is in good shape and i always take it on my solo trips. If the canteen was metal it would be near perfect i think. The only gripe i have is the cover was too tight. I use a US 2qt canteen cover. Ha extra room for the stove without being loose. Great vids

    • @TheTAEclub
      @TheTAEclub 7 месяцев назад +2

      What about the container that you heat the metal is painted isn't it unhealthy to eat from this for weeks? Every day

    • @OliveDrabAlliance
      @OliveDrabAlliance  7 месяцев назад +1

      @TheTAEclub it is only painted on the outside. The inside is bare metal, aluminum I believe. Aluminum may be harmful, there have been a lot of studies on it recently.

    We are committed "DIYers." There are a lot of shops in our area of the Philippines offering the bits and pieces we need to build custom kits for each family member. The age range runs from our youngest at four (4) years old to the old geezer in the camp (that would be me) at sixty-nine and a half (69 1/2) years of age. There truly are no one-size-fits-all options for a personal kit. It is different when using a full camp kitchen setup at your base camp. At that point, you are enjoying many of the conveniences of home while out in the field. This excellent video shows exactly what you may expect if a person decides to order one or more of these mess kits. Thank you for posting and for your honest review.

    hi from the uk .. i have just found your vids ad i love the fact you have a laugh along the way. i have just got in to hiking again after 45 years.. i have got a messkit like the one you have. mine is a bit scuffed but works well... i have found out the soldiers used to have the bottle in the bag on there belts and have the kit in there pack with food or snacks inside.. the kit is not ment for cooking but to have in the cookhouse. the pots fit together with the small one on the handle for pickels the big one for the meat and potatos and the other for veg. best wishes to you ..😀😀

    I have one of these and I do like it. It's my understanding that most of them fit tight when packed up like your second one in the video. To release it, just take one of your thumbs and press down on the bottom of the bowl right next to the handle tab and it will release easily. I like what you're doing here and hope you keep it up.

    I’ve got 3 of them I purchased several years ago from a milsurp place and really like them. No issues with the plastic.
    I agree, there is no such thing as a perfect mess kit, although some come close. I guess it really depends on what kind of cooking you’re planning on doing.
    As far as the plastic canteen and not being able to boil water, that’s not a big deal for me because I don’t foresee myself in some type of survival situation. I just carry water purification tablets. Besides, if you boil the water, it’s hot as hell and takes forever to cool down.

    • @OliveDrabAlliance
      @OliveDrabAlliance  8 месяцев назад +2

    I just got one before the price gets too crazy and always wanted one. Plus, I love mess kits and like easy to use kits with a small stove for quick meals while hunting or just out and about with a $10 Czech haversack from Coleman’s as well!😊

    • @OliveDrabAlliance
      @OliveDrabAlliance  3 месяца назад +1

      The haversack sounds cool.
      Yeah, it will definitely work and it is a very well thought out kit. Some of the materials (plastics) might be questionable, but otherwise a great kit.
      Have fun and have a great adventure

  • @Dan_TheMedievalGuild
    @Dan_TheMedievalGuild 8 месяцев назад +3

    I'll take the chance to be entered. The mess kit could serve as a conversation starter and could definitely be fixed up. It's a neat concept. I wonder if the esbit stove in the pouch might scratch the trench art off of yours. Never know.

    • @OliveDrabAlliance
      @OliveDrabAlliance  8 месяцев назад +2

      It would probably break the brittle plastic before anything else. It feels and is brittle. A lot of youtubers show this mess kit and talk about how great it is, then they encourage you to "clickthe link in the description below" because they get a commission. I'm not opposed to affiliate marketing and will even dabble in it myself, but I wanted to point out the pitfalls associated with this mess kit.

    Try some steel wool to clean up the silverware set.

      It's a tight fit, but more like a well engineered tight fit. It is well built and well designed, I have reservations about the materials used, though, especially the plastic. People swear it's all good stuff, so time will tell I guess.
