I have to say, it is SO wonderful to have an actual dermatologist/medical doctor giving sound, medically-based skincare advice on youtube. I watched your videos with Caroline Hirons on her channel (which I love), and your steps to clear up hormonal acne began to show results after about 8 weeks or so. It was hard to persevere for that long, but thankfully I did, and now I have one or two spots per month (maybe), whereas before I had at least 6 on the go at any given time. Thank you very much!!!
La Roche Posay Effaclar H (Has this been discontined I cant find it) Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser La Roche Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser (Has been discontinued) Obagi Cleansi derm Daily care foaming Cleanser Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser
Hi Dr Sam, thank you so much for wonderful skincare advice! I'm 31 and still suffer with acne. I have extremely oily, reactive sensitive skin. I can't use parabens, or SLS. Can you please do a video about sensitized acne prone skin? And the product recommendations, please?
Your videos are so informative! I love them. Would you be able to do an acne-related video using cruelty-free and vegan products? So many vegan products are loaded with scents/essential oils which I know are less than ideal. Would love to hear your recommendations!
I love that you have been posting a lot of videos today especially on acne, can't wait for more future videos from you! Would it be possible for you to write down products you mentioned in the description box as sometimes it's hard to get the name of brands correctly. Thank you for your good work!
Excellent advice as usual. Another really good one is the Vichy refreshing gel cleanser. It has been my favourite cleanser (and the only one I have been using) for months now. It cleans very well without stripping. It is ever so slightly foaming and works really well. Doesn't contain the dreaded Sodium Laureth Sulfate which dries out my skin.
Wish I would have viewed this video before spending on the Clarisonic...I have active acne. In the past I've also used micro fiber towels with oils and ughh worst, I noticed 2 big blemishes appear. I'm done with diys, and physical exfoliation techniques.
Thank you for shortening the intro. That's much better. I love your videos and real educational information! No fluff or fancy product placement. Just honest to goodness information!! Thank you so much. I do think Dr. Sam should powder before filming though. The lights and camera pick up a lot of shine on the face. You are lovely!!
I find that with cetaphil you should have your face dry and hands wet or vice versa cause it cleanses on the basis of micelles, If you put too much water to it, it won't remove make up as good :)
Does Cetaphil cleanser enough to remove Sunscreen? I tried Cetaphil and Clarisonic (original brush with lowest speed) are amazing together for my sensitive skin
I'm so happy for the confirmation! Cetaphil and muslin cloth cleansing are part of my tried & true routine. I also like micellar water as a prepper if I've used eye makeup, but the Cetaphil solidly takes care of anything non-waterproof ~
What exactly is Fopobiacne Secrets? How does this thing really work? I notice lots of people keep on speaking about this popular natural acne treatment.
Does Fopobiacne Secrets really work? I see a lot of people keep on speaking about Fopobiacne Secrets. But I'm not sure if it's good enough to get rid of your acne problem.
I have found (for my acne-prone skin) I MUST keep the ph of all products below a 5.2. Anything higher just seems to disrupt the lipid barrier...even the Cetaphil wasn't ideal. At present I am using the gel cleanser from Muji.
Hello Dr. Bunting, I am on a good routine right now (seeing lots of results for my acne rosacea) using the following; in the MORNING, LRP Toleriane wash, LRP Serozinc, Finacea, SPF; in the EVENING, LRP Toleriane wash, LRP Serozinc, Stieva-A retin-a, moisturizer. 2-3 times per week I use Malin & Goetz glycolic acid peel pads (I just chose those because I have many allergies and they have only 2 ingredients, whereas many others have 10s of ingredients). This routine has even cleared two large papules that were on my right cheek for 1 year and were incredibly painful, inflamed, red, etc. The only problem is that my right cheek where these were has significant red scarring and is much more red looking (seems to have broken veins, too) compared to the rest of my face which is virtually clear. Will the Fineacea and/or the Stieva-A clear away that red scarring and splotchiness over time? Or should I find a product to target that cheek's red scarring problems? Thank you.
Cetaphil burns my skin, why would that happen? Though I am using Epiduo at night, these types of cleansers have always been uncomfortable. I use a very mild cleanser from Clinique, but would like something even more gentle for morning and non make-up days. In addition to acne, I have super sensitive skin. Fragrance of any kind is a no go for me.
Does Fopobiacne Secrets really work? I notice a lot of people keep on speaking about Fopobiacne Secrets. But I'm uncertain if it is good enough to get rid of your acne problem.
Hello Dr Sam, firstly I'd just like to say thank you so much for your videos - they are easy to understand with clear, straightforward advice which really simplifies skincare. It is so good to have a dermatologist willing to share advice youtube, and it is very much appreciated! I am seeing improvements with my skin, especially since stopping using powder makeup. The one thing I'm still struggling with is cleanser, due to so many unfortunately being discontinued. I have very sensitive, combination acne-prone skin and I seemed to react to the LRP Effaclar H cleansing cream. I currently use the LRP Toleriane Dermo-cleanser but I find it doesn't remove makeup well and leaves quite a clogging film even when rinsing with a muslin cloth, although I have no reaction to it which is good. I have also tried LRP Toleriane Softening Gel Wash but found it quite drying, and the Ego QV Gentle Wash prescribed by my doctor also seemed to cause irritation, but I find it removes makeup well. I haven't tried Cetaphil as you have said it doesn't do a great job removing makeup. I'm really struggling with cleanser at the moment, and would really appreciate if you have any other suggestions for a wash-off cleanser that removes makeup! Many thanks.
Hi Dr Sam, just wondering what you would recommend now that the LRP effaclar H foam, physiological cleansing gel AND Avene gentle gel cleanser all seem to have been discontinued? I was thinking of buying the Avene cleanance gel or the LRP effaclar purifying foaming cleanser -though the latter contains sodium laureth sulfate which i've always thought of as being a stripping ingredient..? I'd really appreciate your thoughts. At the moment I don't have the money to see a dermatologist and my GP told me I have to try a number of prescriptive products through them before they'd send me to a derm on the NHS :-/. I'm in my early 30's and my acne is probably considered mild but I'm so fed up of getting the spots which always leave dark marks! It's been ongoing for a few years now. Thanks.
Dr Sam Bunting Thanks for taking the time to reply! I'm glad you said that because that is what I ended up buying! liking it so far. I've also bought the micellar gel to remove makeup. What do you think of Redermic R Intensive as a treatment for Acne? I bought it a while ago and love how smooth my skin feels in the morning! Not sure if it is the best for Acne though?
I was looking to see if someone else had commented this because I had the same trouble! They all seem to be discontinued :( I'll give the cleansing cream a go.
I am now fighting to get my skin clear and good looking after I started breaking out after pregnancy. I believe that pill kept my skin intact but since I'm not on it due to another method it went sideways. My skin is combination towards dry and after changing my regimen into more gentle and making my skincare more basic and minimal it is so much better. Also, help from my dctor helped a lot with few treatments (i.e. Dermapen). I also tried using more natural/organic skincare but that made things even worse .... With nicer skin I wear less make up and went for lightweight formulas, too! Love your channel, Dr Bunting - wonderful content and such a delightful lady! xx
Hi, love your videos.. Went to a dermatologist.. She didn't even take the time to explain things like you do or give any good advice.. What do you think is the best moisturizer for serious acne prone skin :(
I've been using the Simple brand foaming face wash as I enjoy that it doesn't leave a residue nor does it leave my skin feeling dry or striped. Would love to try that La Rosh mousse you mentioned, but that brand is quite pricey here in the states
So glad I've found someone to provide me with knowledgeable advice! La Roche Posay Effaclar gave me a huge itchy rash on my face and now I'm scared of using their products - do you have any idea why this would be? Thanks!
hello Dr sam I want to know that I am using from past 17days jojoba oil with Frankincense oil for my acne but I see more pimples and acnes on my jaw line and on my cheeks so what should I do kindly suggest me that should I continue using it or not
thank you Dr Bunting, very informative video. I have been trying to help my 14yr old son for a while now, who is really suffering quite severely. At first we only used cleansing products with acne treatment in them and that never seemed to work, for about a year. I did talk to his doctor who prescribed a cream that worked a little but not much. I have now taken the matter into my own hands, desperate to help my son after years of over the counter cleaners and products and the prescription, as well. I had suspected that the cleansers were not doing much to really traet the acne so I stopped buying the products with salicylic acid and started him on a gentle cleanser with a home made facial at night that consists of neem oil and aloe vera. He has shown some improvements with some of the more inflamed swollen spots but still has quite a bit of black heads. Thank again for sharing your knowledge on the subject.
I've just watched this video and tried purchasing the avene gentle gel cleanser but found it has been discontinued. Is there an alternative that isn't by la Roche posay?
Dr. does Cetaphil remove makeup or compact powder?? Hi! I just subscribed to your channel, I think finding you is one of the best thing that happened to me on RUclips. Previously I used to wear a lot of makeup everyday but now I just need it on special occasions. I had terrible acne, its almost gone now after I followed whatever my dermatologist had told me. I still am having problem with stubborn pigmentation in some areas. Please help. I am from India ^_^
Its great to have a doctor here to talk about skincare in detail. i wanted to try la roche posay cleanser really bad but i couldnt find it here in Malaysia :(
I love your videos and also Caroline Hirons. however I notice conflicting opinions by yourself and caroline on the cetaphil cleanser? I bought this after watching this video and I was really disappointed to see Caroline's review that slates it..
I don't understand how dermatologists recommend cetaphil, especially for sensitive skin... It's the most aggravating out of all the cleansers she recommended From what I remember, water, two types of harsh sulfates and three types of parabens were the ingredients Goes against all she said in the video
What is your opinion on Clinique skincare & cosmetics? I have always been curious to know if dermatologists really do stand by the brand. Also, I would like to say thank you! I am currently pursuing my esthetics license & your videos are so informative & helpful. I am very grateful for your channel!
Hi Dr Sam, thank you for your amazing videos, I was wondering if the LRP physiological cleansing milk will be ok to use in place of the discontinued gel version?
+Phoebe Yates My pick to replace the much-missed LRP cleanser is Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser or Obagi Nuderm Gentle Gel Cleanser. Still crossing fingers we'll get the LRP one back!!

Did Dr Sam recommend retinoids? Tried Medik brand?
is she a dermatologist though?
La Roche Posay Effaclar H (Has this been discontined I cant find it)
Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
La Roche Posay Physiological Gel Cleanser (Has been discontinued)
Obagi Cleansi derm Daily care foaming Cleanser

Thank you kind person.

I happen to like the "shine" as you call it. It's not oily and it gives her a healthy glow.

My faves are now Avene - either the extremely gentle cleanser or the anti-redness one. Or La Roche Posay Toleriane.
guy here - can I use the La Roche-Posay cleansers too? which ones?

Cetaphil has SLS in it, which can be irritating. Try the Cerave cleansers. They're more gentle than Cetaphil.
Cerave burns, too! I have tried them all. So many otherwise gentle or natural cleansers have fragrance.
What cleanser from Clinique do you use?
Melanie Saldana try vanicream facial cleanser it’s free of fragrance synthetic dyes parabens sulfates all the yucky stuff

They are either bots or people paid to spam the comments. I’d avoid those and report if I find them in the comments.
Cetaphil has seriously saved My skin! Im acneprone and dehydrated/dry!
Yep, great value and does the trick for many.

Why does salycilic acid make my face feel like its BURNING?? I think I have combination skin (T zone acne, cheeks are clear)
Dawn McClellan because its a peel off the outer dead layer of face which close the pore usually.
and I am not able to identify the difference from now on then

Glad you're enjoying. There are other brands far better suited to acne skin. Their mineral sunscreen isn't bad though.
what do you think of the foreo luna cleansing tool on acne prone skin? good or bad? many thanks xox
+S “Midnight” Bajwa I'd skip devices for cleansing in acne-prone skin when active.

Please can you list the products you recommend, like you have on part 2? Thanks!

I've been watching your videos and you give the best advice out there ! Thank you.
