I'm an Army vet, I've been physically sick to my stomach thinking about our guys stuck over there. Our current government has let it's people down in many ways but this takes the cake for me.
My husband was a combat vet, through him, I've lived it, He faced the fall of Saigon! He went from hand cuffs, directly into combat! Long story, but he fought being Drafted, he was a devout Christian, only son, and still was forced to kill! He couldn't handle it! He was tried for manslaughter while in country, over an obvious accident, And acquitted. Then, we ran like cowards! Just like we did in Afghanistan! My heart goes to vets!!!! You fought for nothing, you lost for nothing, GOOD MORNING VIETNAM!

I'm awake because 9/11 is always so hard for me. This year especially because I never imagined that instead of destroying the terrorist organization that attacked us, we would hand them an entire country and provide military equipment they would otherwise never have. Yesterday I saw a photo of a friend of mine, taken on 9/12 at the WTC. She was SAR worker there with her k-9. You could see the despair in her body language, and her k-9 died within a year because she worked 13 days straight finding remains to help families find closure, so they were exposed to all those toxins. My heart is still shattered, and I still feel the rage.

All a third party does is cause issues between the 2 parties and elections when it's that time to vote. They don't have the financial backers to make them serious contenders. As an American who watched 9/11 happen when I was still a child I can say that I was going to be a Marine because I wanted to go over and defend my country. I wasn't able to because of health issues and so I support our military personnel but still have a soft spot for Marines cuz I was raised around them. I am appalled at how our government has handled this whole situation and as my fellow American already said. I'm sorry to all of our allies and those who gave their lives and pray that you all realize how thankful we are as civilians for what you all have done for us and pray that you not judge us by our government that needs to answer for what they have done. I am a Viet Nam vet, I know how it feels when your country basically stops supporting you. I also was working in a Washington federal office on 9/11 assisting in recovery operations. I know the feeling when everyone comes together to get things done. This - feels more like the former than the latter.

US Army combat vet here ('69-"71) and I am beside myself that people cannot understand what is happening in Afghanistan now. It was plain as day how this would turn out 20 years ago. The Turks tried to pacify Afghanistan for 40 years and failed. The Brits tried to pacify Afghanistan for 30 years and failed. The Russians tried to pacify Afghanistan for 15 years and failed. Why??? As far as I know, never in martial history has an invading force been able to pacify a well organized and motivated guerrilla force. Never, that I've ever heard of, going back over 2000 years. I don't know why some people would think it would work this time. That's why we lost Viet Nam, fighting a well supplied, highly motivated band of guerillas. And that's why we ultimately lost Afghanistan; they just outlasted us, made it too expensive in human life, material, money, for us to sustain the fight forever.

What I want to know is were any member of the troops who had to leave saying that they should make sure all of the Americans and anyone else out at the same time that they were leaving. It would have been a better success if that happened

Some would say if not now, when will the Afghanis be able to control their own country which is one side of the coin. I say stay the course until those we fought so hard against (some with al-Qaeda ties) are no long capable of controlling the country. One day the Afghans will need to take control, but not in such a ramshackle & unsatisfactory way. Many of them that took sides with the US are now paying the price.
I'm not into politics at all, both sides have some good points, it sucks that each side has to be so extreme as to their stances. But it is clearly wrong how we withdrew from there. Get the civilians out first, then the military, seems obvious. We screwed the pooch on this one.

We were over there for 20 yr. it was more than time. We have lost enough lives . Were we stay indefinitely. We tried to help them build a army and I’m sure we left them armaments. It took only days for that country was invaded again. I lived through the Vietnam war. We lost so many men and for what. You can’t fight a War when most don’t wear uniforms to differentiate civilians from army. I’m proud of Biden for standing strong, the financial burden on the American people to finance the war and rebuild their cities when the money could go for education and health care just to name a few.
Yes please know that this is NOT what the majority of us want! There is a lot of things going on here that the majority of us do NOT want! Most of us knew this was going to be the result but there are things going on over here that we cannot stop nor change because of a poor decision made by people who didn't bother and/or want to look too deeply into what they were choosing. And now it's having far reaching, catastrophic effects.
I might be a bit of a dissenting voice here as a US veteran. I am glad that we finally withdrew. It was handled poorly, but the entire occupation was handled poorly. The people of Afghanistan have shown that they are not willing to adopt our Western vision for their country and another twenty years of war would not have changed them. I don't have much good to say about Biden, but don't lay the blame solely at his feet. We have all lost people over there, and we have multiple administrations to be resentful to, going all the way back to Jimmy Carter.

I’m here because I’ve been awake all night not doing well due to what is happening with our injected administration etc. beyond disturbing.
I'm awake because 9/11 is always so hard for me. This year especially because I never imagined that instead of destroying the terrorist organization that attacked us, we would hand them an entire country and provide military equipment they would otherwise never have. Yesterday I saw a photo of a friend of mine, taken on 9/12 at the WTC. She was SAR worker there with her k-9. You could see the despair in her body language, and her k-9 died within a year because she worked 13 days straight finding remains to help families find closure, so they were exposed to all those toxins. My heart is still shattered, and I still feel the rage.

When I watched 9/11 happen, I was so shocked & it was so surreal, I didn't cry for a long time when normally I even cry over touching commercials, but I whimpered like a sick or injured animal. When I have disagreed with the decisions of our political leaders, I've tried to look at it from their point of view. The way that the withdrawl from Afghanistan occurred was purely incompetent. There is no other word for it. The previous administration may have been considered crude because of all the tweets, but he said what he meant and meant what he said. As an American who watched 9/11 happen when I was still a child I can say that I was going to be a Marine because I wanted to go over and defend my country. I wasn't able to because of health issues and so I support our military personnel but still have a soft spot for Marines cuz I was raised around them. I am appalled at how our government has handled this whole situation and as my fellow American already said. US Army combat vet here ('69-"71) and I am beside myself that people cannot understand what is happening in Afghanistan now. It was plain as day how this would turn out 20 years ago. The Turks tried to pacify Afghanistan for 40 years and failed. The Brits tried to pacify Afghanistan for 30 years and failed. The Russians tried to pacify Afghanistan for 15 years and failed. Why??? As far as I know, never in martial history has an invading force been able to pacify a well organized and motivated guerrilla force. Never, that I've ever heard of, going back over 2000 years. I don't know why some people would think it would work this time. That's why we lost Viet Nam, fighting a well supplied, highly motivated band of guerillas. And that's why we ultimately lost Afghanistan; they just outlasted us, made it too expensive in human life, material, money, for us to sustain the fight forever.

What I want to know is were any member of the troops who had to leave saying that they should make sure all of the Americans and anyone else out at the same time that they were leaving. It would have been a better success if that happened

I can't argue with anything you said. The analogy isn't lost on me. Some would say if not now, when will the Afghanis be able to control their own country which is one side of the coin. I say stay the course until those we fought so hard against (some with al-Qaeda ties) are no long capable of controlling the country. One day the Afghans will need to take control, but not in such a ramshackle & unsatisfactory way. Many of them that took sides with the US are now paying the price.
I'm not into politics at all, both sides have some good points, it sucks that each side has to be so extreme as to their stances. But it is clearly wrong how we withdrew from there. Get the civilians out first, then the military, seems obvious. We screwed the pooch on this one.
Why? That is the great question, one that millions of us Americans are asking. Like some others here, I'm very ashamed of the person living in the White House.
Most Americans are staggered by the incompetence and duplicity of our regime. we don't quite know it got there and we don't know how to get rid of it. But it will take us all down in short order.
We were over there for 20 yr. it was more than time. We have lost enough lives . Were we stay indefinitely. We tried to help them build a army and I’m sure we left them armaments. It took only days for that country was invaded again. I lived through the Vietnam war. We lost so many men and for what. You can’t fight a War when most don’t wear uniforms to differentiate civilians from army. I’m proud of Biden for standing strong, the financial burden on the American people to finance the war and rebuild their cities when the money could go for education and health care just to name a few.

Yes please know that this is NOT what the majority of us want! There is a lot of things going on here that the majority of us do NOT want! Most of us knew this was going to be the result but there are things going on over here that we cannot stop nor change because of a poor decision made by people who didn't bother and/or want to look too deeply into what they were choosing. And now it's having far reaching, catastrophic effects.

I might be a bit of a dissenting voice here as a US veteran. I am glad that we finally withdrew. It was handled poorly, but the entire occupation was handled poorly. The people of Afghanistan have shown that they are not willing to adopt our Western vision for their country and another twenty years of war would not have changed them.
I don't have much good to say about Biden, but don't lay the blame solely at his feet. We have all lost people over there, and we have multiple administrations to be resentful to, going all the way back to Jimmy Carter.

We should have been out of there years ago, with a proper exit strategy. It was rushed, the blame lies with the brass and the President. We didn’t have much to choose from when it came to presidential candidates either, unfortunately it came down to sleepy Joe or hitler 2.0.
