Request: since AJR has a new album releasing in less than two months (The Maybe Man), maybe it would be a good time to revisit AJR! (I'd recommend World's Smallest Violin, The Good Part, The Dumb Song, and God is Really Real)
They did Regina dirty with her song choice. Everyone on the cast had a beautiful voice and were big musical fans. He totally called the vibe of the third song, and when hook says croc it's a nickname for rumpstiltskin. Without giving to many spoilers all the fairy tales in once upon a time are connected. Some villains are reformed in the real world some not. Most I can say without revealing to much.
Yess. A lot of modern Snow Whites do this thing where they just _have_ to make her a badass and sarcastic and all of that because they think that’s what people want to see. And once upon a time’s Snow White is also a badass when she needs to be but she’s definitely still got that wholesomeness and innocence that to me is a really important part of the character.
Fun fact: The man playing Hook actually did the second half of that number with a broken foot. He broke it halfway during filming the number and he didn't say anything as he wanted to finish the song.
It's so interesting to me how actors are just willing to continue through the pain and continue threw the sceen and then say oh by the way I got hurt on set.
Some clarification: the crocodile = the dark one = Rumplestiltskin = the beast (from Beauty & the beast) = Peter Pan’s and the black fairy’s son. He also learned magic to the evil queen and her half sister Zelena (the wicked witch of the west) and had a kinda weird relationship with their mother. Hook and Rumple have a hate relationship throughout the show. This because Rumple’s first wife left him for Hook (‘cause he was too much of a coward). When he became the dark one (immortal and powerful) he took his revenge by taking Hooks hand and killing his ex wife. I know, it’s a bit much and a bit weard.
Further clarification to the clarification: 1. Black Fairy =/= Maleficent. Those are 2 different characters in the show. Maleficent is like a frenemy of the Evil Queen (Regina) and later also of Ursula and Cruella DeVil. 2. You might be asking "How can Peter Pan be the father of anyone if he's a child?" well you see... he isn't. He was a middle aged man before he and Rumplestiltskin as a child got to Neverland where Pan had been to before. There Pan had an entity take Rumplestiltskin away to feel young again and then turn young and regain his magic there.
Yes, and Emma = daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, she married Hook and had a daughter named Hope. She had a son prior to this called Henry with Neal Cassidy, who is Baelfire, the son of Rumpelstiltskin and Milah, who cheated with Hook and was murdered by her husband. Henry married Cinderella’s second iteration, which is not the same person as the original cinderella but the original stepsisters are children of the second iteration of Tremaine (which is weird) and the second iteration of Tremaine is the same character as the second iteration of Rapunzel from Tangled. Henry and Cinderella II had a daughter called Lucy who is adopted by Tremaine while they are all cursed with fake memories in Seattle. This was made by Tremaine and the Coven of the Eight which are witches led by Gothel from Tangled. Originally they are taken to Storybrooke in Maine. They have no memories prior and have fake ones instead. Emma creates a wish realm using Aladdin’s genie lamp (Aladdin is a genie) where every character introduced prior to that point is given a separate and near identical version. Wish Hook was tricked by Gothel, trapped in a tower and disguised as Rapunzel and have a child who is the second iteration of Alice from Wonderland. Alice II falls in love and eventually gets engaged to Robin Hood and Zelena’s child, Robin Jr. (a girl). Hood was killed by Hades while in the Underworld saving Hook after he was killed by Emma when they both were Dark Ones. The original married a genie called Cyrus, one of Amara’s sons, Amara is a mentor to Jafar who was in a relationship with the Red Queen. Alice was locked in an asylum by Dr Lydgate, father of Mary, involved in a love triangle between Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The Red Queen was mentored by the Queen of Hearts, mother of Regina and Zelena (Wicked Witch of the West) she was trapped in Wonderland by her daughter Regina (Evil Queen) and left her other daughter to be sucked by a tornado and taken to Oz where she was raised by abusive woodcutter parents. (Only her father was abusive) the Queen of Hearts murdered both Snow’s mother and her daughter first lover, the latter in front of Regina. She then had her daughter save Snow when she was a child. I recommend checking out The Theorisers OUAT for more on the family tree, it only grows more deeper. (Thank you for listening to my rant if you did, I am autistic and OUAT is one of my special interests, I am sorry for Info-dumping.)
I was hoping you would include Hooks revenge song. Its my favorite from the musical episode. So fun to see you react to all of them. I couldnt help laughing, when you assumed the dark one is a crocodile XD For reference Hook just calls him crocodile, because the dark one has similar skin, but otherwise he is a (regular ) human aside from being immortal and powerful.
Yeah he's got crocodile-esque skin but also, I'm not gonna lie, his face is kinda of long like a crocodile. Like his nose kind of helps to make that look I'm ngl
Hook used to be a villain yes but this show really took the quote to heart that a villain is just a victim who's story hasn't been told yet. They do an amassing job at explain why they are evil and the hardship they had to go though. (And the impossible journey to redemption). Actually The Evil Queen and Hook are two of the characters, I feel the most sorry for and wanted a happy ending for. Life has sqrewed them both over again and again and again. Neither of them are bad people at heart. They are just people/victims who never got saved or protected like the heroes did and constanty had the small peaces of happiness they had striped away from them again and again until they couldn't take the pain anymore and turned dark as the only way of copping with their insane amount of pain. And even after everyone sees that they are not inherently evil, even after they both try so hard to let go of that image and do good.... they still have to fight the fact that every one still remembers them as evil and the fact that destiny/fait/the author seriously has some kind of vendetta against them too. Those two hasn't had a break from the universe since they were born and this show is so amassing at making us feel sorry for them. Those two really are the best characters in the entire show in my opinion
Good summary, loved it very much 🩷❤️ I'm honestly very surprised you didn't say the best characters were "Regina and Rumple" since many ppl love his character, and I've also seen many that kinda don't like Hook.... which, ig it's their opinion. But I personally loved Hook's character sm. I'm glad to see many do too. For the villains, I truly enjoyed those 2 the most.
@@Rox7ne Well... Rumble was one of my favourites in the first couple of seasons (before hot mr. Hook entered the picture fully) but he had his peak after his confrontation with Pan. After that it only went down hill. I still love him don't get me wrong, amassing character. But you can only forgive, hate, forgive so many times before the wish for redemption kinda fates away. I love him. The show would be nothing without him.... but my heart doesn't bleed like the two others. He kinda deserves a lot of what he gets
REAL, but I don't think we can really be mad at the people still viewing them as evil and bad bc they were TRAUMATISED by them, especially by regina like, yeah she's had a hard like and it makes us, the viewers sympatize but the people who have actually lost ppl bc of her/ lived in fear every day don't owe her forgivness
The thing about once upon a time is that most of the villains actually get redeemed throughout the story. So the evil queen, captain hook, and the wicked witch are all main characters and good guys, though they are still evil or antagonistic in the flashbacks of this episode. The only villain who stays a villain throughout is Rumpelstiltskin, who goes back and forth so many times that it’s impossible to keep track.
@@cisarvitiate While I agree these and others are villains who stay villains, I wouldn't say most of those characters are man characters. Like they might be for their arc or season of whatever but they don't last as long as the others to get a redemption arc.
They did this one because in an interview Lana song a verse of "Por unfortunate souls" and the interviewer said "whene is the musical episode" and the director loved the idea.
I really like the musical episodes but the reasons for them are usually pretty bad and they often don't really fit with the rest of the show. I know I've seen one of the medical series (which are supposed to be ''realistic'') have a musical episode completely out of nowhere.
The actors who play the Charmings (Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas) are actually married in real life, and I'm fairly certain they met on this show. Josh also very briefly appeared alongside Ginnifer in Zootopia, where she was the voice of the main character, Judy Hopps, and he voiced a pig who ran a flower shop that was robbed (who only appeared for a few seconds).
They did, in fact, meet on the show, at the table read for the pilot. At the time, Ginnifer was in a long-term relationship with someone else, and Josh was married to someone else. They started dating in S2. Josh got divorced in S3. Everyone's always so "Oh, it's so cute that they're together IRL," but somehow they always forget to mention that their happiness came at the expense of Josh's first wife.
@@TheAlmaward I didn't know about their previous relationships, but that doesn't change the fact that they still make a cute couple now, both on and off screen. And, as unfunny as it is, it is interesting how that real life relationship drama is incredibly similar to the plot of the first season (in Storeybrooke, at least) with Mary Margaret Blanchard and David Nolan getting involved when he was still married...
@@TheAlmawardActually, that’s not true. He divorced Lara in 2011, so, it was very early S1. And Lara began dating her current husband, whom she met in 2008, sometime before April 2012.
A recurring theme of the show is that while there is good and 'evil', it's up to you to make that choice. A lot of the villains of the show are really humanised and, even if they aren't forgiven for their past, they're given the chance to be good in the present, learning and ajusting to not use scare tactics to get their way.
Yeah it's like how Regina literally calls out Snow during her song for taking away her happiness. So many villains actually have tragic backstories that ended up shaping who they became and why they became villains in the first place.
Fun fact!! I'm not sure if someone wrote this already but in the last song "Revenge is gonna be mine" the actor for hook actually broke or sprained his foot... I'm not sure which but he got his foot stuck in the chair when he used it as a step and had to break it. Even after getting injured, he continued to do the choreography and singing of the scene; you can even see him in pain at some parts of the song, but he hides it really well. The show is amazing, I've watched it so many times and it's one of the best renditions of fairy tales and even some Disney movies like frozen. I highly suggest it as something you should watch.
Just a quick context: Hook during his solo song was some kind of a villain, because it’s a song from the past. The present Hook, aka Killian, had his redemption arc and married his true love - Snow White and Prince Charming’s daughter, aka Emma. And amazing reaction, by the way!!
Some details to help fill in the context: In this series, Rumpelstiltskin - the fellow who sews straw into gold and kidnaps babies - is involved in nearly every story somehow. He is the crocodile who took off Hook's hand. This is because Hook was banging his ex wife. Hook called him crocodile because he had scaly, gross skin like a lizard. Rumple was also the beast who kept Belle locked in a tower, the guy who supplied Dr. Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll the ingredients to finish their experiments, and the guy who built the house on the waterfall (you know, as in Pixar's Up). The Evil Queen, the Queen of Hearts, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Belle have all fallen in love with him. It's a weird, wild ride with him.
AHHHH WAIT NO IM SO UPSET I CANT ACTUALLY WATCH RIGHT NOW. as someone who’s favorite show is once upon a time, i just got so excited seeing this notif. i hope you enjoy the songs! i will be back to watch when i can
i love Once Upon A Time more than any other show it's genuinely amazing and the villain redemption arcs are INSANE hence the confusion here regarding if they're good guys or bad guys heheeh
OUAT is such a good show. I *love* how they combined all the fairy tales together in such creative ways (i.e. the Evil Queen & Wicked Witch are sisters, Rumpelstiltskin in the "croc" that took Captain Hook's hand, etc).
3:34 yeah basically, this one is hard, because in terms of the story…this episode happens almost at the end of the “first Gen of OUAT” before the completely new characters come to the screen and a big part as to why they are all singing and why is important later on. Is explain in the current timeline of the show…
Basically the show showed how people aren’t just good or evil, they all are a mix of both and have a chance to choose their own actions. Plus, a lof of flashback. And the crocodile was just an expression, cause yh. Also a very complicated family three…
The dark one is rumpelstiltskin, and his nickname is crocodile because when he became the dark one, his skin turned rough and leathery like a crocodile, and it kinda made him look like one too
Hello Matthew! I'm glad you liked this musical episode. I would HIGHLY recommend watching the full show. I used to watch it with my mother when I was younger, and it's still one of my favourite shows today.
The actor who plays hook actually broke his foot during the scene and pushed through to the end of the song. In a few episodes after, the actor wears a boot due to the injury.
9:22 this happens in the current timeline of the show… Emma is Snow White and Charming’s daughter Killiang (misspelled sorry) is Captian Hook, now Emma’s husband And this all happens during their wedding in the “real world” in the town that the evil queen (Regina) created called Storybrook (probably also misspelled)
This is one of my all time favorite shows! Definitely recommend watching more of it. The musical episode always throws me off because it is so different from what the show typically is.
I would love to explain this show, omg. There's so many things in it that make the musical episode alone so confusing HAHA. I highly recommend watching it (it's 7 seasons). I have seen it too many times and absolutely loved your reactions to the music
Every time I see someone react to this episode without knowing anything about the show is absolute chaos because if you haven’t seen the show or know the basic concepts, almost nothing makes sense. If you have watched the show, it’s hard to follow it even if you’ve seen every single episode up to this point. Jumping in at this point is like trying to play a video game at level 120 after watching one person play level 1 for the first time.
I never finished watching OUAT and now I low key wanna go back and watch it all over again. I took a break after they introduced Elsa because I was so shocked by her presence that I needed a break for my sanity lmao, and then my poor memory and attention span made sure I never actually resumed watching. From what I remember it was pretty good though. The weaving together of all the stories was super cool, and I particularly remember thinking that Rumpelstiltskin being the Beast was neat, but I didn’t realise he was ALSO the Crocodile in Captain Hook’s story!
i do think that a lot of ppl don't like the frozen storyline but i enjoyed it, it's def worth returning to the show at some point bc it's a fun ride throughout - you can skip season 7, if you want, as it doesn't necessarily tie in (it's just a lot of call backs to season 1 but this time with adult henry and his kid trying to break a curse) and season 6 is a good ending in of itself,
Same, I lost the plot when I got to the early part of the frozen arc. I definitely was surprised, yes, but also kinda disappointed that they added the frozen characters, especially since the beginning of the arc really didn't hook me either. It didn't help that I was sick and tired of frozen by then, being advertised everywhere.
Musical episodes like this one are always favourites of mine, and another one that I HIGHLY recommend is Psych: The Musical. There is little to no explanation as to why it's a musical in the episodes, but it's highly entertaining. It's a two parter musical, and is probably one of my favourite musical episodes in TV. Anyways, I loved this reaction! Once Upon a Time is a favourite show of mine (even if the story can be very convoluted and difficult to follow if you're just dropping in), but I enjoy it nonetheless. Can't wait to see your next reactions!
Omg yes!!!!!!! STRONG seconded to this! Especially “Santa Barbra Skies” and “I’ve Heard it Both Ways”- the two songs I unironically listen to a lot 💀💀💀
Yes! "Santa Barbara Skies" is hands-down one of my favourite songs, period! Another one that I love listening to is "When You're Making Up a Song", a song that I am ready to spontaneously start singing at pretty much the drop of a hat. The whole musical is just so freaking catchy!
whenever matthew talks about these "defeating the villain with something ridiculous" scenarios, he always ends them with a hearty "aah I've been defeated"
You need to watch more of this series cause it's amazing, whether you do episode reacts or out of context I think I can speak for all of us when I say we would be over-joyed.
I recomend songs from Mermaid Melody. They are REALLY beautiful! Althought there was no official English translation there are many incredible fan translations. My favorite songs are Return to the Sea,Birth of Love, Beautiful wish and Tsubasa wo deite.
OMG u totally right!! I didnt know there was no official english translation cause i watched the show in spanish (wich i totallly recommend, bc the songs are amazing) and is also known as Pichi Pichi Pitch btw :)
I saw this notification at school and you would not believe how excited I was!! This is my second favorite show :D and although it doesn't have a lot of songs and I can't remember them that well this is so cool!!
As someone who's seen all of OUAT (even the mess of a seventh season) I found your confusion amusing and very entertaining. The songs in the very fairy-tale-esc locations (Powerful Magic, Love Doesn't Stand A Chance, Revenge, Wicked Always Wins) take place in flashbacks to show the lives of the characters before the time of the show. We see Snow and Charming set on defeating Evil Queen, Evil Queen being evil, Hook hating the Dark One and wanting to kill him for killing the woman Hook loved (Dark One is actually a person with grey bumpy skin like a crocodile... also is Rumplestiltskin or Rumple aka the straw-into-gold guy and that's a story for another day), and Wicked Witch of the West (named Zelena) hating her sister the Evil Queen. Happy Beginning and a song you didn't react to called Emma's Theme sung entirely by Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and a really good song vocal range take place in Storybrooke aka the modern world (our world) in present day. The ending of Happy Beginning is the curse of the ultimate villain the Black Fairy being released on the citizens of Storybrooke and transporting them to some other location (and the possibilty of erasing the memories of the characters). They knew it was coming, and they wanted Emma and Hook to have their wedding before this curse took all of their happiness away.
you've GOT TO watch this show! it's so good and it makes the character seem like real ppl not just stories. it kind of goes of the premise that all ppl are not evil , it is just their experiences that made them the way they are. i love it so much! i know you only watch/listen to music but i would love to see you reacting to shows and movies , especially this one!
I was a bit hesitant to watch it when the first season came out, but with the release of second (or third?) i decided to give it a chance. I never even once regretted watching it and it is still one of my absolute favourite shows of all time.
"I'm wondering if it's like a curse?" Oh, my sweet summer child... Anyway, you didn't include it in the video, but my favorite song is Emma's Theme. Even though her voice isn't as strong as the rest, the music for it literally is that character's leitmotif, so to hear that music theme for 6 years and then to hear Emma put words to it gave me such goosebumps the first time I heard it.
Rumpelstiltskin is the dark one/ crocodile. The dark magic made his skin green and it kinda looks like he has scales, therefore crocodile. Rumpelstiltskin cut off hook's hand.
This show is great very much recommend watching it from the beginning the first season is just incredible and the different developments are so good throughout the whole show
so a basic rundown of once upon a time: the evil queen set a curse that traps most fairytale characters (herself included) in soemthing of a status state of shitty living in a town in real world brooklyn. She adopts a son, who happens to be snow and charming's grandsom, bc they sent their daughter through a magic wardrobe to save her and via prophecy the rest of them... and he finds his real mom after learnign froma book taht he is surrouned by fairytale characters. while the show goes on for far to long, the family building, character development, and world buildigng and means of utilizing villians/heroes in ways you wouldn't expect, adn the unique ways the blended fairytales together or put fun spins on them (for instance Rumplestilskin is also the beast from beauty and the beast, amidst other "villians" in other stories... it's fun. rumpelstilskin is even teh crocodile hook is after)
I remember in middle school and beginning of High School (I'm in my 2nd year of college rn) I was OBSESSED with this series. I didn't watch all of it, mainly because I got bored around the 4th season, but from what I watched it was very interesting XD. I would highly recommend giving it a watch lol
The Dark One is also known as Rumplestiltskin, AKA Mr. Gold, AKA(by Killian) The Croc. OUAT weaved all the character's back stories together making for some cool combinations and complications through the story.
The guy with the hook hand in the last song is actually Captain Hook. He was originally a villain in the show but he had a redemption arc and became a good person. Also, Jennifer Morrison, whose character he kisses and gets married to, is actually Snow White's daughter. There were a lot of times in the show where people were frozen in time due to curses or other happenings, and it causes a lot of weird dynamics where parents and children could be the same age or other weird things like that lol. Also, the dark smoke at the end is one of these curses. There are a multitude of curses in the show and each one did a different thing. Here's a list of their names: The Dark One's Curse (Plague's the dark one) Sleeping Curse (Eternal sleep and trapped in a dream netherworld) The Dark Curse (Cast By The Evil Queen, took everyone to a land without magic, aka our world, and gave them false memories and lives, and trapped them in time for 28 years) The Dark Curse (Cast by Snow White and Prince Charming, returned everyone to a land without magic and took away one year of memories due to the Wicked Witch messing with it) The Curse of Shattered Sight (Cast by the Snow Queen and caused everyone to only see the worst in others and fight each other to death) The Dark Curse again lol (Cast by Emma Swan, aka Snow White's daughter, which once again returned everyone to a land without magic and took away a couple weeks of their memories) The Black Curse (cast by the Black Fairy, took away almost everyone back to the fairytale realms and trapped Emma Swan and her son in a land without magic, as well as a few others and gave them false memories and caused the fairytale realms to start being erased over time) The Dark Curse AGAIN (Cast By Regina who was being forced to do it by Drizella, Cinderella's stepsister, who was being manipulated by Mother Gothel (lol) which brought everyone to a land without magic but to a city this time and gave them false memories and lives once again and also took them back in time like 18 years I believe)
I looove Once Upon a Time, that's one of my favorite sries of all time ! You need to watch it. And those songs are 💫 which fairy tails ? hmmmmm... Welle all of them ? 😅 The Emma's one and Evil Queen/Charmigs' were missing. And Emma is the main character, played by Jennifer Morrison. Love your reactions btw
2:58 I’m in love with them as a couple. They’re married in real life. Josh Dallas is phenomenal. Ginnifer Goodwin is sensational. Also, I highly recommend watching the episode BUT keep in mind that you’ll get completely lost on how the family tree works. 😂 The show is one of my favs and is a must watch. I love how they twist the various stories too.
So, the basic story is that the Evil Queen put a curse on all fairytale characters, and now they're in a town in the real world and don't remember who they used to be. (There's a lot more going on though, and it gets pretty complex with all these characters and what their relationships are.) It's really cool, cause it gives most fairytales a spin you wouldn't expect. Also, the villains don't always stay evil, they often have reasons why they act like that, and even the good guys aren't always good. I love that and it's one of my favorite shows.^^ There's also a lot of flashbacks from the time when they lived in the forest of fairytales, which is when you see them in the costumes and stuff. These backstories always tie in neatly with the stuff going on in the present. Hook just calls the Dark One a crocodile. And yeah, he did really bad things to Hook.
This has to be so random but oh my gosh for some reason some of your recent vids have been of hyperfixations or obsessions I had years ago it’s so random and I love it so much I completely forgot about ouat, one of my birthday parties when I was younger was litterally this show
I was planning on explaining the plot but this show is maybe the hardest to explain to someone who didn't watch it out of all shows. Even those who watch it can get lost if they don't pay attention 😂
mathew not knowing any of the characters makes this even funnier. that's not some old lady, that's red ridding hood's grandma, who's pretty badass in the show. also, croc/crocodile is a codename hook gave to the dark one aka rumplestilskin, who looks like he has crocodile skin. the show has a bit of a similar concept to ever after high and descendants, where it's about rewriting your story. the main difference is that in once upon a time, everyone is related to each other. the charming family tree is fucking nuts
Trying to understand the OUAT storyline is complicated enough when you've actually seen the show, yet alone trying to understand it from these songs. Still, it was funny to see him try
As a fan of Ouat who’s currently doing a rewatch I found his reactions and him trying to puzzle everything out which him very limited knowledge really fucking hilarious. Yes, The Dark One is Hook’s Crocodile… but he’s also Rumplestiltskin (who is also the Beast to Belle’s Beauty)
"The Dark One" is a character played by Robert Carlisle. His real name in the show being Rumplestiltskin. When he was younger, he was a bit of a coward and married to a woman named Mila. She grew bored of her husband, and eventually met a pirate named Killian Jones (aka Captain Hook). Being powerless and a corward, Rumplestiltskin sought out a being called "The Dark One", and managed to kill them. After defeating The Dark One, Rumplestiltskin became the new Dark One. His choice of wardrobe is a crocodoile-skin coat, which he wore when he fought Captain Hook, and cut off his hand. Ergo, "the croc" in Killian's song. OUAT is an amazing series, with a sometimes convoluted history in terms of family lineage and character associations. But it's also very well done. Besides the character of Rumplestiltskin, and The Crocodile, he's also The Beast (from Beauty & The Beast). Overall, probably the most powerful character in the series.
Once upon a time was really good with the queen and the story making gray areas and unclear lines around characters we previously knew. I love how confused it made you that snow stole the queens true love. It's fantastic.
I absolutely love Regina she is amazing and the actress just chefs kiss. I love how the show blurs the lines from good and evil. Are they good? Yes are they evil? Yes.
This was the only musical episode of once upon a time. Also the evil queen was terrorizing granny ( the old lady with the blanket) Because in the scene before that you didn't see her and other characters were singing happy songs lol so that's why she tore up the blanket.
So the characters that the Evil Queen is dancing around in her song are actually supporting characters in the show as well as well known fairy tale characters. The men in the mines were the seven dwarves, the older man and the kid were Geppetto and Pinocchio after he became a real boy, and the old woman was Red Riding Hood's grandmother.
17:40 me fr and also people who watch the musical episode or just the songs first is honestly so funny because with how confusing this show is your basically fucked from the beginning
You should watch Once Upon a Time. It's a roller coaster ride of a show. Hook is one of the best characters btw. They have a bunch of Disney, and some not Disney characters. It's a fun ride through the whole thing, and there's a good deal of twists and turns in the story.
You do have the musical episode of Flash but Grant, Melissa and Darren were all on Glee. Jesse was in Rent on stage. Jeremy is known for his singing and John was in musical theatre, released albums and toured.
Fun fact 😎 during the filming of "Revenge is gonna be mine" the actor who plays Killian (Captain Hook) actually broke his foot during this and still danced and sang through the pain!
I love your confusion XD. This show was very big on redemption arcs for their villains, so by this episode a lot of the main cast are former villains, so when the flash back (all songs except the wedding happened many years in the past) you get a lot of villain songs.
Just so you know, the Musical episode is in season 6, so, uh, yea, totally spoilered yourself, lol. But I’m still glad you reacted lol. Especially “wicked always wins” and “love doesn’t stand a chance” are my absolute favorite songs from the whole show. Maybe also because they’re my favorite characters, but yes lol. Also, 18:38 it’s not a real crocodile. “Croc” is just a nickname for that particular person. Some use “prick” or “jerk” as a nickname when they don’t like someone, and hook uses “croc”. “The dark one” is that person’s actual alias.
Yeah, he called him a crocodile as a taunt when he saw his scaly skin (before he knew what shit he was putting his foot into when goading him). It was very specific to Rumple. Guy really was a bit of a dick 😂
@@jessicaable5095 well, mind that Mat has not seen the show, so might wanna tone down with the spoilers a little. Hence why I didn't say "Croc"'s actual name.
@@timefliesaway999 ah, that's why. Not to worry though, I didn't give away any spoilers with my direct comment. Comments under comments are kinda fair game though. Just thought you'd misremembered there so my bad 😊
If you watch the show, without spoiling TOO much - there are a few villains who get redeemed. There are actually 3 redeemed villains in "A Happy Beginning", one of which is, well, the groom as you noticed.
I've seen the whole show more than once but it would take a while to explain but all the fairytales are connected in some way..... Regina (the Evil Queen) is the wicked witch's sister. The dark one is a man named Rumpelstiltskin his skin looks like scales he is the "croc" Hooks talking about but he's also the beast from beauty and the beast. But the cool thing about this show is almost all the villains have a reason to why they became evil.
Short Explanation/ Brief context: This show has 7 seasons, and 7 storyarcs. The beginning story arc: All the fairy tale characters u have heard of as a child (Disney ones) combined into 1 universe with multiple realms and a sometimes much darker take on it. Protagonist family is " the Charmings": Snow White, Prince Charming(David), (their daughter)- Emma Swan, and (Emma's son/Snow & David's grandson) Henery. The show(especially the first few seasons) goes back and forth between the past in the main fairytale realm(The Enchanted Forest) and the present in a cursed town called Storybrooke in the regular world(our world). The flashbacks are to explain the curse itself and who these characters were before the curse. The protagonist family branches out, and becomes very complex. PS: That black smoke at the end of "A Happy Beginning" was another curse.
Star Trek strange new worlds also has a musical episode that is really good! The show isn’t really something you usually react to, but it’s still really good. “How would that feel”, “I’m the X”, “Status report”, and “We are one” are some of my favorites from the show. It would be great to see you react to that. This video was also great as usual
Long-haired Snow, Evil Queen Regina, bad Hook, old costumes -> in the Enchanted Forest (fairytale land) Short-haired Snow, nice Regina, nice Hook (in love with Emma), usual clothes -> in Storybrooke (real world) Also the old lady was Granny from Little Red Riding Hood (which also is not just a normal girl😅 there's just sooo much going on)
Captain Killian Jones (Hook) started out as a villain but throughout the story he slowly becomes a hero after he met Emma Swan and they slowly fall in love. Emma Swan is the daughter of Snow White (Mary Margret) and Prince Charming (David). When Emma was a baby, her father put Emma in a magical wardrobe to protect her from The Evil Queen's curse. The smoke at the end of Happy Beginning was from the Black Fairy, if you want to get more context I recommend watching the show. I used to watch Once Upon A Time with my parents growing up. The Wicked Witch (Zelena) and the Evil Queen (Regina) are sisters and they were really close until their mother makes them forget. Like I said at the beginning, Captain Hook was all about revenge until what happened in the song Happy Beginning. The villain Hook was talking about the Dark One, you should watch the show so you know who the Dark One is. The Dark One Captain Hook was talking about was none other than Rumplestiltskin himself. A Dark One is a dark magical entity resided in all the Dark Ones, they're very evil. I hope you watch the show, I loved it growing up.
It’s an incredibly interesting format for a show, it takes place in the modern world and also in the “fairytale” world. Characters usually have one or two identities across both worlds. I’m not usually a fairytale guy, but this show really hooked me after watching the pilot one night.
too stunned to speak

Hey Matthew Ik u just posted one. But I’m really sick so it would make my day if u could do anything EAH videos
The show is actually really really dark, lots of naughty naughty and death 💀
"Once Upon a Time" has unironically the best Snow White out there. Additionally, it also has the best Snow and Charming relationship out there! xD
it just melted my heart knowing that they re married
@@nallyrose9048I CAME HERE TO SAY THIS
I totally agree I've mentioned this on other people's posts on the live action snow white they're doing

It’s so wild in the best ways lmao

So true! It would be like an entire essay(or maybe even a novel).
@@DinoandGalaxy Yeah, let's not talk about how Henry is both Snow's brother and grandson, as well as Emma's uncle and son.
You can see the pain on his face when he kicks the stuff off the table near the end
Yo I never knew this- Colin is awesome
He WHAT??? 😱😰 Nooooo somebody proteccc himmmmm!!!!! 😭💕
@@mak_inthebox4817Even in the next episode it is seen that Hook is wearing an orthopedic boot 😅
Some clarification:
the crocodile = the dark one = Rumplestiltskin = the beast (from Beauty & the beast) = Peter Pan’s and the black fairy’s son.
A bit much and a bit weird but SOOO GOOD!!😂
Further clarification to the clarification:
Tought, not learned
You mean he taught them magic.

“Which fairy tales are included?”
Once Upon a Time: “yes”.
Better question: which fairy tales aren't included ?
@@tcshack701answer: no, no fairy tales aren't included
Those two really are the best characters in the entire show in my opinion
this has got to be the best summary and explanation i've seen in the comments
@@snowlily1436 Oh my god thank you ☺
Good summary, loved it very much 🩷❤️ I'm honestly very surprised you didn't say the best characters were "Regina and Rumple" since many ppl love his character, and I've also seen many that kinda don't like Hook.... which, ig it's their opinion.
There are more villains who stay evil (Peter Pan, Black Fairy, etc.).
Eh, even Rumple isn't truly evil. He, at least tries to be good, but he always gets in his own way.
@@cisarvitiate While I agree these and others are villains who stay villains, I wouldn't say most of those characters are man characters. Like they might be for their arc or season of whatever but they don't last as long as the others to get a redemption arc.

To add onto that even the good guys do “villainous” things (charming and snow banishing maleficents baby)
I loved the musical episode to this, every show just becomes 100% better when they have one!! 😂
I get that but the ones that I have watched, recently at least, have had a really good reason for it or at least one that make sense.
normally id agree, but i HATED the musical episodes in riverdale so...
Except Riverdale
@@rdfan7669 I didn't say they're not a cute couple now. I said that that's all anyone ever focuses on. No one ever mentions Josh's first wife's pain.

Is explain in the current timeline of the show…
The idea of the Evil Queen picking up a cat and just ripping it in half 😂😂😂
Once upon a time is so good!!! I have seen all the 7 seasons at least 6 times!!! Hook and rumple definitely the best characters!!
Basically the show showed how people aren’t just good or evil, they all are a mix of both and have a chance to choose their own actions. Plus, a lof of flashback. And the crocodile was just an expression, cause yh. Also a very complicated family three…
matthew: i don't know what fairy tales this blends

The dark one is rumpelstiltskin, and his nickname is crocodile because when he became the dark one, his skin turned rough and leathery like a crocodile, and it kinda made him look like one too
Hello Matthew! I'm glad you liked this musical episode. I would HIGHLY recommend watching the full show. I used to watch it with my mother when I was younger, and it's still one of my favourite shows today.
The actor who plays hook actually broke his foot during the scene and pushed through to the end of the song. In a few episodes after, the actor wears a boot due to the injury.
This is one of my favorite musical episodes in any show I’ve ever watched!
9:22 this happens in the current timeline of the show…
Emma is Snow White and Charming’s daughter
Killiang (misspelled sorry) is Captian Hook, now Emma’s husband
And this all happens during their wedding in the “real world” in the town that the evil queen (Regina) created called Storybrook (probably also misspelled)
I have watched every episode of this series and boy can I tell you that it is just a rollercoaster of emotions. I very much enjoyed it😁😊
Emma, Snow White and Prince Charmings daughter ended up with Captain Hook, who is also Emma’s son’s father’s mother’s ex
I'm so glad you reacted to Once! The show as a whole is so chaotic but it's so fun!!
The Corcodile is indeed the dark one and it's also a nickname as well cause of his dry scaly skin. The crocodile in the show is rumpelstiltskin.

They knew it was coming, and they wanted Emma and Hook to have their wedding before this curse took all of their happiness away.
you've GOT TO watch this show! it's so good and it makes the character seem like real ppl not just stories. it kind of goes of the premise that all ppl are not evil , it is just their experiences that made them the way they are. i love it so much! i know you only watch/listen to music but i would love to see you reacting to shows and movies , especially this one!
this will forever be my comfort show. severely underrated
"Should I watch it?" Well that depends Matthew, will you be reacting to it? Because id love another reason to watch the show again. God its so good!
I recommend watching the actual series, even though it’s like 7 seasons and the episodes last last 40mins each, it’s absolutely worth it
I realy love this musical episode ❤
This show is great very much recommend watching it from the beginning the first season is just incredible and the different developments are so good throughout the whole show
so a basic rundown of once upon a time:
the evil queen set a curse that traps most fairytale characters (herself included) in soemthing of a status state of shitty living in a town in real world brooklyn. She adopts a son, who happens to be snow and charming's grandsom, bc they sent their daughter through a magic wardrobe to save her and via prophecy the rest of them... and he finds his real mom after learnign froma book taht he is surrouned by fairytale characters. while the show goes on for far to long, the family building, character development, and world buildigng and means of utilizing villians/heroes in ways you wouldn't expect, adn the unique ways the blended fairytales together or put fun spins on them (for instance Rumplestilskin is also the beast from beauty and the beast, amidst other "villians" in other stories... it's fun. rumpelstilskin is even teh crocodile hook is after)
Crocodile is a metaphor for a magic person
I remember in middle school and beginning of High School (I'm in my 2nd year of college rn) I was OBSESSED with this series. I didn't watch all of it, mainly because I got bored around the 4th season, but from what I watched it was very interesting XD. I would highly recommend giving it a watch lol
I love Once Upon a Time and your reaction to the musical episode has made my day.
Here's a list of their names:
The Dark One's Curse (Plague's the dark one)
Sleeping Curse (Eternal sleep and trapped in a dream netherworld)
The Dark Curse (Cast By The Evil Queen, took everyone to a land without magic, aka our world, and gave them false memories and lives, and trapped them in time for 28 years)
The Dark Curse (Cast by Snow White and Prince Charming, returned everyone to a land without magic and took away one year of memories due to the Wicked Witch messing with it)
The Curse of Shattered Sight (Cast by the Snow Queen and caused everyone to only see the worst in others and fight each other to death)
The Dark Curse again lol (Cast by Emma Swan, aka Snow White's daughter, which once again returned everyone to a land without magic and took away a couple weeks of their memories)
The Black Curse (cast by the Black Fairy, took away almost everyone back to the fairytale realms and trapped Emma Swan and her son in a land without magic, as well as a few others and gave them false memories and caused the fairytale realms to start being erased over time)
The Dark Curse AGAIN (Cast By Regina who was being forced to do it by Drizella, Cinderella's stepsister, who was being manipulated by Mother Gothel (lol) which brought everyone to a land without magic but to a city this time and gave them false memories and lives once again and also took them back in time like 18 years I believe)

I’m in love with them as a couple.
I love that and it's one of my favorite shows.^^
There's also a lot of flashbacks from the time when they lived in the forest of fairytales, which is when you see them in the costumes and stuff. These backstories always tie in neatly with the stuff going on in the present.
Hook just calls the Dark One a crocodile. And yeah, he did really bad things to Hook.
I think you’d love this show!
This has to be so random but oh my gosh for some reason some of your recent vids have been of hyperfixations or obsessions I had years ago it’s so random and I love it so much I completely forgot about ouat, one of my birthday parties when I was younger was litterally this show
OUAT's plot is pretty chaotic, so I don't if I should recommend to watch the pilot, a summary.... OR A OUT OF CONTEXT VIDEO
I was planning on explaining the plot but this show is maybe the hardest to explain to someone who didn't watch it out of all shows. Even those who watch it can get lost if they don't pay attention 😂
Once Upon a Time is a great show. Emma is the child of Snow White and Prince Charming and Killian is Captain Hook.
"I dont know which fairytales this blends" ... all of them 😂
mathew not knowing any of the characters makes this even funnier. that's not some old lady, that's red ridding hood's grandma, who's pretty badass in the show. also, croc/crocodile is a codename hook gave to the dark one aka rumplestilskin, who looks like he has crocodile skin.
the show has a bit of a similar concept to ever after high and descendants, where it's about rewriting your story. the main difference is that in once upon a time, everyone is related to each other. the charming family tree is fucking nuts
"What fairy tales?" ALL OF THEM. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE.
You … you HAVE to watch this series. The characters freaking GROW, and I love that!
Once upon a time was really good with the queen and the story making gray areas and unclear lines around characters we previously knew. I love how confused it made you that snow stole the queens true love. It's fantastic.
Hook too! hook became my favorite character but I had a couple "Villain's" as my favorite by the end.
I absolutely love Regina she is amazing and the actress just chefs kiss. I love how the show blurs the lines from good and evil. Are they good? Yes are they evil? Yes.
This was the only musical episode of once upon a time.
Also the evil queen was terrorizing granny ( the old lady with the blanket)
Because in the scene before that you didn't see her and other characters were singing happy songs lol so that's why she tore up the blanket.
I WASNT EXPECTING THIS?? BUT ONCE UPON A TIME FOR THE WINN🗣️🗣️
Fun fact 😎 during the filming of "Revenge is gonna be mine" the actor who plays Killian (Captain Hook) actually broke his foot during this and still danced and sang through the pain!
And to the answer of your question, which fairytales it blends all of them, all of them
I love your confusion XD. This show was very big on redemption arcs for their villains, so by this episode a lot of the main cast are former villains, so when the flash back (all songs except the wedding happened many years in the past) you get a lot of villain songs.
"so... is he a villain? I'm confused..."
Welcome to Once Upon a Time.
The Dark One/The Crocodile/Rumplestiltskin, tends to be the root of most evil within this show from what I remember.
GALAVANT!!! You absolutely must watch the first episode of Galavant! It is very similar in feeling to this
Short Explanation/ Brief context:
This show has 7 seasons, and 7 storyarcs.
PS:
That black smoke at the end of "A Happy Beginning" was another curse.
During ‘happy beginning’ in was just sitting wait for him to relize that Killian has a hook!! And then he did and I died 😂
"What is that?" That is the dark cuse it transports and often erases identity from people.
Long-haired Snow, Evil Queen Regina, bad Hook, old costumes -> in the Enchanted Forest (fairytale land)
Short-haired Snow, nice Regina, nice Hook (in love with Emma), usual clothes -> in Storybrooke (real world)
Also the old lady was Granny from Little Red Riding Hood (which also is not just a normal girl😅 there's just sooo much going on)
Captain Killian Jones (Hook) started out as a villain but throughout the story he slowly becomes a hero after he met Emma Swan and they slowly fall in love.
