The story is disgusting. It's about infidelity cheating hiding and lying while a husband is away. I don't find that romantic at all I find it disturbing and actually disgusting. It is not romantic it's all about sex. That's all it is.
Yes, lots of people blasted this movie for its premise. Understandably. But neither party intended what happened. They just experienced a unique connection, much deeper than sex. They both found someone, if accidentally, who could relate to them on matters that were deeper than the day to day. They experienced an entire relationship in only a few days, because of their easy manner of understanding. Very rare. Even though it's fiction, it relates what actual soulmates experience, the joy some experience when they do life together, and the profound sadness some experience when they cannot. It's obvious they never forgot each other. She had to make the hard choice to do the right thing for her family and her husband. She told the truth about what happened so that neither of her children would choose to settle their whole lives by being with the wrong person. To either get out of bad marriages, or to choose to make the person in their lives truly feel loved. It's interesting that in the end, each child chose differently, based on their specific situation. She was hugely aware of how this would affect her daughter, her son, and her husband forever, and stoically stayed in the role she had committed to when she fell in love with her husband in Italy. Not that their love was anything less at the time, just totally different than what she experienced here. Clint, in his role, made it clear to her that there was never anyone else to him that he felt the same way about, either. It certainly makes the case for soul mates, or twin flames, something I never used to believe in, or at least, not able to label.
@@suesmith8372 It is still infidelity unfaithful and disgusting. Hiding lying cheating. No pregnancy... Lucky! Giving yourself, completely, to another person while married is very destructive. You promised. Hollywood love! Good luck, I wish you the best!
@@MrGazzara Whoa! Wait! I didn't condone this. I felt the same way when the movie first came out. I didn't watch it for the longest time, for the very premise that we have discussed. The Christian churches went very hard on it. I admit that I understand it though. And she was very lucky that she wasn't found out in that tiny town, because she would have been ostracized, just like the woman who later became her friend.
@@suesmith8372 I didn't watch all of it. I cannot stand infidelity. To me there is no excuse. People use love as an excuse. I think we all know that desire, needing to have sex with a person is very strong. You need to want to do something to have it happen. Love is thrown at everything to justify the behavior. I don't believe that. To me it's just the fact that a handsome guy goes out on the field taking pictures meets a married woman with children has intercourse with her in her home shared by her husband. It's simply disgusting. Of course she doesn't want to leave her and she doesn't want to leave him. It felt good. I'm sure it was exciting. Intercourse is the most serious intimate connection people can have. It's the greatest connection....giving your bodies to one another. Yes, it is very serious. I don't think she really loves her husband, otherwise she would have the strength to resist that temptation. I hate to be so philosophical but it's very disturbing. To me, it is not romantic at all I only see passion and sexual desire. Humans have had that desire since the beginning of time. Hollywood knows how to make cheating and infidelity very romantic. Like it's love. Not much mention of the husband. Clueless. Maybe that's exciting too for the audience. Not me. Betrayal. I apologize for going on and on but I don't care for that business at all. It's okay to make movies about it but to give it wonderful reviews and calling it a romantic love story. Romanticizing it? No, I'm not on board with that. Sorry. I wish you the best. I enjoy reading your comments. Well done.
