@@rosejohnston7258 Friends ( none of whom know about that part of my life, including my children) tell me it’s only a movie…yes, but it’s so much more… it’s such a powerful, true to life and love portrayal of that ‘once in a lifetime soulmate’ moment and indeed I have known no other comparable experience in the over 30 years since. It’s hard to believe that Eastwood and Streep weren’t truly deeply soulmates in love..such brilliant and beautiful performances…I think only those who have been through it would truly appreciate just how true to life and emotive the film is.

A beautiful movie. I don’t live too far from Madison County, Iowa. Basically grew up during this same time frame on a small family farm. Mom always wore a dress, usually one that had been used as a “good dress” and then known as a housewife’s dress years later. We seldom bought new clothes except for different seasons like Christmas or Easter. We all worked together doing chores. I did a few things in the kitchen but I usually was outside helping or doing chores. Very good work ethics were taught by example and “no” or “ I don’t want to” were not acceptable answers to being told or asked to do something. We usually were very proud that we were allowed to do another more matured chore than the year before. We were taught that quitting or giving up was not commendable. We learned that with endurance and perseverance could accomplish what we set out to do. Television time was strictly supervised and all meals were done with the entire family starting with a prayer. I could go on about life on a family farm but this is for comments, the book and movie has already been written and produced. I thank those who had a part in both. And, yes, I’m still living in a small Iowa farm community, but now am retired remembering years gone by. God Bless you and yours. Much love to all. 💞

Meryl Streep is such an amazing actress, even her physical movements are just perfect and such a superb portrayal of Italian women - having spent a lot of time in Italy and having some Italian friends, I see so much of them in her character here. Superb writing and cinematography, and Clint is as masterful, yet portrays someone who is kind of social awkward, as many photographers are, and the polar opposite to his more famous characters. Wonderful film. I now need to go watch it again :)

2023 and clearly this is a classic that will remain. I appreciated that this story was about characters in their mid 40s to 60s. I am so torn by this movie and I cried during the car scene and the box scene at the end. What a heartbreaker infidelity is. Commitment, promises, self-sacrifice and duty vs a once in a lifetime love. Which one would you choose? I guess that is the question that the movie asks you to answer...which is what makes it a great movie that will endure many moons.

I love that they took a chance on a young, new (talented) screenwriter named Richard LaGravense who insisted that the film sustain the intent of the book, two older people ... saying that casting a 35 year-old would be a huge mistake. A year later, Richard would go on to write The Mirror Has Two Faces ... later, Living Out Loud, Beloved, Water for Elephants, Beautiful Creatures AND Unbroken. He also directed many of these films. Amazing artist.

This story is even more complex than choosing between marriage-family and love. Not only does Francesca chose marraige-family, but she is also afraid to make this love real and routine. She says so : "The moment we leave it will not be the same". He is ready to take a chance to make it real and see what life brings, even if it means disputes and loss of magic. She wants to keep it perfect as it is, so she is also running from reality, when on the surface it looks like he is with his adventurous lifestyle. She prefers to keep it a memory she will cherish.

Robert's views about life were so right and correct, Clint made a character that brought an objectivity about morals and how people really are not doing anything wrong in the conversations he had with Francesca. I found the ideas this movie brought to the public was something amazing. Robert's character was a fictional good friend and lover to Francesca at a time when a woman needed a good friend in a lover as well.

After I read the book, I thought Robert Kindcaid was real and looked for him in the National Geographic 70’s edition. I was so crestfallen when I learned he wasn’t real. I thought Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, two of my favorites, would be perfect as the lead actors. It’s so great to see I was right. Love this film forever.

Enjoyed learning about how this movie came about. Being born in Iowa but raised in Nebraska know about this area of our country. The movie is a favorite of mine kept me watching the whole time. Wanted her to go with him but admired her dedication to her family. She still had a loving experience right or wrong. Didn't really expect a movie like this from Clint. Thanks for sharing.

I remember going to the movie theatre to watch this with two friends, it was a packed house and everyone was crying, all the women and there were a lot of men in the theatre too, and I coukd hear the ones around me sniffing snd wiping their eyes. I'll never forget how moving the movie was and how moving it was hearing the sniffling all through the crowd. My tissue was unrecognizable..just tiny pieces I couldn't even make into a ball. 😢

This was a classic tale of "what might have been" in deep and heart wrenching romantic context. For those of us who allow ourselves to "feel", these are the stories that break our hearts in two and stories that will stay with us until we die. This was such a story for me.
Some really great movies were made using this theme. "Cast Away" made me feel this way once again, when Helen Hunt realizes that she has to go back to her family after running back to Tom's car in the rain. The last 10 minutes of La La Land where Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling imagine what their life might have been while he plays that heartbreaking sparse piano theme at his Jazz Club. I could go on - but this kind of heartbreak is familiar to all of us who have had similar life experiences, and this film masterfully captures this in spades. "Bridges" is a timeless masterpiece that will make us cry every time we see it. Artistic content of this quality and magnitude - that make you feel this deeply - is a gift indeed. Thanks to all that created it..!

One of my top five films...and to see Clint, how he actually IS. His friends have said this. If you want to know Clint Eastwood, the man..watch this film. And who Clint Eastwood actually is, is at odds with his stereotype...the hard man. He's a lovely man. A peaceful man.

I live in rural Iowa apprx 70 miles from where this movie took place. I grew up on a farm here during the 50’s and 60’s. The standards of living were as the movie portrayed and in some ways still remain in the way we attempt to live. Many rural towns still have the town square but most storefronts are closed now due to the change in economy. I miss not knowing who the owners are or the clerks. It did provide a sense of security which most of us don’t have anymore wherever we live. I’ve lived elsewhere for brief periods and traveled but I guess Iowa will remain my home.

I am an 81-year-old female, and I never tire of watching this movie. It is done so beautifully. A few years after the movie came out, I attended a wedding reception in Monterey at Clint's resort. His truck from the film was parked in a lot there. I had to have my picture taken standing next to it. A few after that I was in Barre, Italy, and had my picture taken by the city name sign on the road entering the city. So I have some personal moments from the movie.

There are those who felt angry at this movie because they say it's about a woman cheating on her husband. But they totally missed the story. They never took it lightly it just happened. They sacrificed what they wanted in order to do the right thing and yes it is was heartstoppingly painful.
