God I love the "____ nothing" games. All of them are interesting and unique in terms of watching it and the strategies players use. How is eBay a dead website? Lol.... my family owns a pawn shop and i can assure you its just as alive as it always has been. That being said some of the "rules" for selling and listing are absolute horseshit and also eBay will always side with the buyer in a dispute if one arises. Even if everything is _CLEARLY_ explained, photographed and documented via the seller.... doesn't matter. Can't tell you how many items we've gotten back because the buyer claims it was damaged or the wrong item when its quite obvious they just got buyers remorse. Don't be that worthless sack of shit of a person. Side note: The returned items wouldn't be bad except the seller eats the fees every time something is returned :/
I was thinking that, I mean 20 pop space for a building that slowly gens resources? for a map like that, I mean certainly would help late game when trade becomes harder. you'll likely want to play defensively though.
If you try and convert a trade cart that has gold, it will automatically stop carrying gold and need to be retasked. A lone monk can absolutely wreck a trade route with proper micro
I think an interesting strategy would be to manipulate the food/wood market. For instance the person who is making the most food could suddenly stop selling food and start buying wood at the same time. This would then drive up the food prices and force people to make farms which spike the wood price. Then just sell all your food when its at a high price and use the gold to buy up even more wood the next time you cut off food sales, rinse and repeat.

What if someone had dropped their castle in the middle with a bunch of villagers to get it up quick? Throw a wall around it as quick as you can. How much trade could wipe out before people rerouted? Plus you could keep trading diagonal corners and other people couldn't. With 8 players I don't think gating your market would be worth it, but with fewer players it might be. It's one of those things that if everyone did it it would shut down everyone else's economy, but if just 1 out of 8 does it it wouldn't have much effect. Would have been good to send a bunch of monks to convert the dead trade carts.
I'm surprised no one picked Portuguese for this map. A single Feitoria over 2 hours would have brought in 5,760 food and wood. If you had 6 instead of the normal villages + trade carts that would have been 34,560 which is probably close to twice as much as the average person was able to buy this game. You'd also have enough stone for 16+ castles and have an easier time breaking off alliances not having to worry about trade.
One thing I've found is kinda OP in maps like this is sappers. Food is relatively cheap compared to wood and you'll likely build quite a few vils early on. Therefore a good strategy is to get sappers and start taking out markets and TCs.
This is actually pretty amazing. All this trading gives it a lot of realism. People trading, defending trade routes, building castles around them etc. Starting wars is super expensive because it distrupts your trade and alienates people towards you. Theres lots of intruigue conspiracies and drama aah. We dont really have strategy games with actual realistic focus on economy.

I wonder if it would be possible to create a "void nothing" map. Farms are disabled, trade is disabled, and there are no resources on the map in FFA. Each player also starts with enough Food, Wood, Gold and Stone to create a small army. When you kill an enemy unit, you gain resources equal to double that unit's resource cost to create. It would purely be on the player's honor not to intentionally trade/feed eachother's economy to then gang up on other people, but then they would still have to deal with each other eventually. In order to progress and win you'd have to be aggressive, and take efficient trades or end up draining what resources you have, and just feeding your opponent. It would likely be a fairly fast map up until the last two or three players where their economy from the war would start booming faster than they could spend it, but I think it might be an interesting mode?
